Am about to commit to expensive dental work come tell me it will be all worth it!

Just that really. Have wanted to sort my teeth for a long time. I have missing lateral incisors which just never grew in as a child and 30 years of drinking black coffee hasn’t exactly done me any favours.

Finally in a position to afford the work but at nearly 4K it’s a big commitment and the thought of lots of orthodontist visits doesn’t fill me with glee. Come tell me how it will all be worth while please!!

Depends on the work you are having done.
I wouldn't get veneers, as they don't last very long.

Look at it this way. Your teeth affect your speech, your smile, your eating, kissing ... not just your looks.

£4K isn't all that much for something that you 'wear' 24/7.

Tasmaniandevilchaser · 04/07/2021 10:58

I had braces as an adult, probably cost around the same. I am very happy I had it done. I agree with @KirstenBlest it's not a lot considering you'll have your teeth for life.

Carbis · 04/07/2021 11:02

I had whitening and invisalign a few years ago and it’s made such a difference to my confidence. I just don’t think about my teeth anymore. If you can afford it, go for it. I’ve forgotten about the cost and hassle.

FindingMeno · 04/07/2021 11:03

If I had the money there would be no stopping me.

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/07/2021 11:04

Depends what the treatment plan is and what's being done as to whether that's good value or worthwhile.

Broadly and objectively speaking of it's affordable to you OP then I imagine it will be worth it, so nice to have confidence in ones own smile.

SnarkyBag · 04/07/2021 11:22

The treatment plan included Lite orthodontic aligners, composite bonding for upper four teeth, upper fixed bonded tetainer and teeth whitening.

I have very straight teeth but they were yellowing a little . I had them whitened in lockdown and it was life changing . I feel so much happier with myself even with that little change .. I'd say it will most definitely be life changing for you! Have you seen 10 years younger? When they have new teeth they look so different and much better ! Although I'd avoid rylan veneers ! Get someone who favours the natural look!

mumofthemonsters808 · 04/07/2021 11:40

I think it will be money well spent and I would do similar if in a better financial position.

FindingMeno · 04/07/2021 11:52

I'm too scared to ask how much tooth whitening costs in case I make a face like this > Shock
Roughly how much is it if you get it done professionally, not with a kit, please?

sansucre · 04/07/2021 11:54

I spent almost £10k on my teeth. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

I had my teeth done at the dentist and it was £300! That was ok the care etc .. soo worth it

FindingMeno · 04/07/2021 12:00

Thank you!
I'm glad I asked here and not in the dentist - I was figuring around £200!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 04/07/2021 12:06

I didn't have to pay in one go though , so if you stagger it across your pay days then it's easier .

FindingMeno · 04/07/2021 12:09

@huuuuunnnndderrricks oh that is really helpful to know!
I'm going to look into it then!
I can't afford orthodontic work but whitening would really boost my confidence.

FindingMeno · 04/07/2021 12:11

Would you be able to pay over installments @SnarkyBag if you wanted?
You must be so excited for the final result!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 04/07/2021 12:12

I think a lot of dentists do finance or payment plans too.. I'm sure mine does although I paid 2
X £150 across pay days which was fine for me .

SnarkyBag · 04/07/2021 12:20

Yes they have payment plan options which is good. I’ve been wanting to get them done for years so am very excited that it’s now going to happen!

My four front teeth are porcelain crowns. Have had them for about 5 years. My dentist was trained in the US and he did excellent work. It's well worth the expense.

Chiantina · 05/07/2021 14:43

Go for it! I had four teeth removed and fixed braces as an adult, I only wish I'd done it sooner. Mine cost about the same as yours, I paid monthly for the two years that I had the braces on.

It is a lot of work, and you'll have to commit to wearing retainers for life, but so worth it. Good luck.

ferretface · 05/07/2021 14:49

It's totally worth it, I had Invisalign and bonding a few years ago and it's absolutely transformed my smile. No more overjet and no more snaggletooth. I used to hate photos of myself from certain angles and that's all just gone. Bet you will be thrilled OP :)

SuburbanCrofter · 05/07/2021 14:54

I have recently had about £1.5k worth of work done. I LOVE the result and keep looking in the mirror! It's been a major confidence boost.

Yes it's expensive, and I'm not going to lie, there were several uncomfortable hours in the dentist's chair. But the results are definitely worth it. Your teeth make such a difference to your appearance.

belljar89 · 05/07/2021 15:39

I have spent over 10k on my porcelain veneers (and I am not rich- it was savings + credit card)

I regret one thing - that I haven't done it sooner.
I cannot believe seriously how much it changed- in my look, in my confidence.

I would, though, advise not to get bonding and get porcelain veneers instead.
My friend got bonding, and it was a waste of money in the long run- the material stains easily (when you during coffee, etc.) and looks good for the first year or so.
