Moisturiser and possibly serum for dry sensitive skin with rosacea?

MountainDweller · 04/07/2021 00:11

Looking for the perfect moisturiser for my dry, rosacea-prone face - any ideas? I currently have REN Evercalm for day and V-cense for night but my skin still feels dry especially in the day and gets red and hot easily. I've also tried Jurlique Calendula redness rescue, Clinique redness solutions, Caudalíe Resverastrol and Neal's Yard Frankincense. All of the ones I've mentioned have worked at some point for me but my skin seems to have become dryer. (Almost certainly related to menopause - have been in induced menopause for 10 years). Oh and I've tried the REN rescue night balm but that's too greasy most of the time and can cause breakouts.

I use a cream cleaner and flannel at night (skin feels dry after that too) followed by serum (votary super seed at the moment from an advent calendar, but I don't think I'll replace it) and facial oil (Aurelia - love it but £££). Then moisturiser later after that's soaked in.

I prefer more natural/clean ingredients but willing to try other options if they're good. I think petrochemical products and lanolin set off the rosacea. I'm also in France so French pharmacy brands would be fine, or anything I can buy online from Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic, Feel Unique, that kind of site (Boots for eg no longer delivers internationally). I'm looking for mid-range I suppose - happy to spend up to £40 for a moisturiser. I got the Venn All-in-one revitaliser serum/cream from my advent calendar too and it's great under daytime moisturiser but don't think I can justify buying it! Extra points for anything I can get a sample of, or buy a small size to try, to avoid further breaking the bank!

Sorry, long post for a relatively simple question Blush

Op try the kalme range from skinshop.co.uk

AmberIsACertainty · 04/07/2021 00:23

Vichy mineral 89 serum is good. Dry sensitive and eczema here. No rosacea though. Also use a face oil, currently lanvin but others have been fine too. Then simple gel cream or clarins if I'm splashing out, simple rich moisturizer and Clinique SPF 20 day cream. Night time Estée Lauder recovery serum, face oil, olay night cream. Layers and plenty of them to add moisture and keep it in. Else I feel tight skinned like it's been stretched.

Amyheadache · 04/07/2021 00:33

I’ve been getting Instagram adverts for products from a brand called Rosalique (I must have googled rosacea at some point my mum has it)
I can’t recommend but might be worth a look x

TTCAbroad · 04/07/2021 02:54

I use khiels ultra moisturiser. Occasionally I try something new but nothing ever stacks up. I have dry, sensitive skin prone to contact dermatitis and erythematotelangiectatic rosacea.

Keep in mind that ‘natural’ doesn’t mean its good for your skin. Essential oils are a good example - they are very irritating and often cause or exacerbate problems.

Blondie1984 · 04/07/2021 03:13

La Roche Posay

YellowMonday · 04/07/2021 03:51

Aspect Dr Resveratrol Moisturising Cream is one of the most hydrating creams you will find on the market. It soothes the skin, while softening and balancing.

It's not cheap, but a little (pea size) goes a long way. I'm obsessed with it - I also very sensitive skin and rosacea. Make sure to also always use SPF sunscreen everyday (don't rely on SPF in moisturiser and/or foundation).

Classica · 04/07/2021 03:57

I have/had rosacea and would recommend Clinique's Take the Day Off cleansing balm and the Bioderma Sensibio anti-redness cream. Both unscented and very un-bells and whistles but great for my skin. I think the whole 'clean' products thing is a load of nonsense so no idea if they pass that test.

Don't forget to wear your SPF during the day.

SherryPalmer · 04/07/2021 04:39

I use La Roche Posay Toleraine Nuit.

YellowMonday · 04/07/2021 05:45

And for serums I love Cosmedix Affirm (Antioxidant Firming serum), Reboot Overnight Hydration Complex (hydrating, probiotic night serum), and Define Age-Defying Treatment (Retinol A).

tiredteacher100 · 04/07/2021 06:39

I have struggled for years with my rosacea. Red, dry and inflamed skin. I tried so many different washes and cleansers, but nothing worked. Then I saw a consultant dermatologist about something else and he told me that rosacea can often be caused my small skin mites called demodex. He gave me a prescription for Soolantra cream and my skin was transformed within weeks. The dryness and redness has gone. There are plenty of reviews online about it. I got it through prescription but I think Superdrug sell it if you fill out a questionnaire with their online doctor

Demortuisnilnisibonum · 04/07/2021 06:42

Rosaliac UV by La Roche Posay. I prefer the light version, but if you’re very dry, you’d probably like the original one. Works for me.

Demortuisnilnisibonum · 04/07/2021 06:46

I love the smell of Neal’s Yard stuff - their natural deodorant and hand san are lovely, but I find the face creams harsh because of the essential oils. You’d be better off with unperfumed, I think. I’ve also just started using Cerave cleanser - seems v gentle.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 07:52

Cerave. It saved my skin after it suddenly decided to be allergic to everything else I put on it. It comes in a huge bottle and I use it all over. There's a day cream too with SPF.

EllaBlaire · 05/07/2021 20:06

Clinique dramatically different moisturiser is the only moisturiser I’ve found that’s moist enough for my dry skin.

MouldyPotato · 05/07/2021 20:20

Vichy serum
Cetaphil face and body moisturiser

riotlady · 05/07/2021 20:25

I have very dry sensitive skin and use The Body Shop soothing aloe vera moisturiser, really settles it down

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/07/2021 20:27

I use one of the following-

Aloe night cream by TBS
Cerave
Eucerin

Aloe eye cream by TBS

I cleanse with Cerave lotion and a tepid wash cloth- not the face wash .

Skin has never been better and rosacea is nearly gone.

I cannot use serums or lotions or acids etc or my skin reacts.

MollyVolley · 06/07/2021 13:10

I've dry skin & rosacea too and what really helps with the dry skin for me was to try and avoid water on my face so no cleansers that wash off! I use cleanser and wipe it gently with cotton pads or reusable ones.

SherryPalmer · 06/07/2021 13:16

I agree with the pp, a wipe-off cream cleanser will be a lot less drying and using cotton pads will be less abrasive both of which might make a massive difference and you might find you don’t need to change anything else.

Have you used the rest of the Body Shop Aloe skin range? I have tried the cleanser before but I found the bottle really annoying, I couldn't get any product out.

I don't get rosacea but very sensitive skin and eczema. Have you tried Liz Earle by the way, that is good too?

MountainDweller · 06/07/2021 23:57

Thanks for all the replies. Really encouraging that so many have found something that works for them. Will look into all the suggestions. Am going to see if I can get some samples to try first. Pleased to see brands like La Roche Posay, Cerave, Cetaphil, Bioderma, Vichy and Eucerin recommended as they are easy to get hold of for me and not too pricey. I used to use a lot of Clinique but more recently had a reaction to one of their creams and don't find DD as good for me as it used to be. Though Classica I've tried the Clinique Take day off balm cleanser and liked it!

I know 'natural' is not always the best but I've had so many reactions to mainstream brands (even expensive ones like Lauder and YSL) that I just started trying it and found a few nice products. I've heard essential oils can be a bit much for delicate skin (that's maybe the issue with my day cream).

tiredteacher100 interesting about the mites - my rosacea started in my eyes (ocular rosacea) and I've been told to pay a lot of attention to cleaning my lashes because of mites.

Demortuis I love the Neal's Yard hand sanitiser spray! And the hand creams too. My body is fine with it but maybe I need to keep it away from my face.

MollyVolley and SherryPalner there might be something in the water theory - i have lots of cleansers on the go and flannel and hot water are the common factors! I'll try a wipe off one. And/or cooler water!

citygirl1961 I like Liz Earle stuff - had a travel set a while ago and now have a big tube of cleanser on the go (it was a gift). Not sure where it falls re essential oils though, and whether I could wipe it off without water - might give it a go. I hate waste!

Mrs Pellegrino so glad you've found a system that works for you. I was using mild acids a few years ago and was doing great, now it's all fallen apart Sad. It is generally better at night when I layer lots of moisture.

And aargh, sunscreen is another problem - I react to almost all of those too!

I don't know about rosacea but was just extolling the virtues of oil cleansing with almond oil on a different thread. My skin is super dry and I find the almond oil cleansing, washed off with a damp warm cloth, is wonderful. I still use a moisturiser after but my skin doesn't have that horrible stretchy feeling after cleansing it used to.

I switched to night creams with hyaluronic acid a while ago but not sure if that's something that would be bad for rosacea? I'm using the Neutrogena one.

I also see someone mentioned Cerave and again, was just extolling its virtues. I haven't tried the face products but the body lotion (moisturising cream) is incredible with no residue so I'd be tempted to try the face creams if I was looking for something gentle but effective.

TiredButDancing · 07/07/2021 00:16

Clarins moisturisers with SPF are the only ones I've consistently found don't do anything odd to my skin.

TheFoundations · 07/07/2021 00:21

I cured my by accident when I gave up bread in solidarity with a friend who gave up bread to lose weight. She was back on it a week after, but I noticed quite a change in my skin after about 5 days, so I stuck at it, and within a fortnight my skin was clear and cool and calm and all the same colour.

I'd been resigned to acne and rosacea for life and had tried everything.

I can make my skin flare up again by eating a lot of floury stuff. It takes a day or 2 to start showing, and I can sort of 'dial up or down' the redness and the spots. So, if I've got a quiet weekend head, I might have croissants for breakfast on Friday, but if I've got an interview, I'll avoid flour like the plague for a week before.

Worth a try.

Mama nature. I love their products. Natural, organic, vegan. They are amazing.
