Anyone bought a Mia Tui bag?

I saw them mentioned on here and have looked them up. I'm really tempted by a mini Jen in pebble for travel. I'm going on a couple of city breaks and an over night flight in the autumn 🤞
and I thought it might do the trick.
But my concerns are:
The material- fake vegan leather? No idea what that'll be like
Are they frumpy? I sort of think they are a bit but I need something really practical

I'd love to hear if anyone's opinions experience

I've had a couple. I bought one of the tote bags for work and a cross body for weekends/ going to the footie. They are ok but they do have a bit of a plasticky smell. They also don't seem to hold as much as I thought, especially if you put things in the internal pockets which doesn't leave much room in the base of the bag.

I'd sooner have Kipling to be honest. I've got the large Art tote which has a sleeve which goes over a suitcase handle. Lightweight and hard wearing, I've had a couple of mine for years and they still look good.

Those Longchamp Pliage ones are quite nice, but not sure why they cost £80 when they're made of nylon!

I am a big fan of Mia tui bags. I'm mainly backpacks these days, but have the big travel bag (Jennie) & used to use it a lot when I flew hand-luggage only with work etc.

It's still in great condition 4 years on (just less opportunity to use it now! I also liked that it came with a matching clutch bag that I could use for my purse/phone/keys/passport together & accessible, without the need to dig around for them.

I also used to take one of their foldable backpacks with me as they're ideal as an alternative shopping bag in duty free etc.

I have a Jenny which I bought in the sale and I love it. It fits over my cabin case, it has the handy inner bags and lots of pockets. I also have a Maya i got from Vinted for £5 which is possibly the best bag for practical long days out with young kids.

I am always looking for bags with suitcase trolly sleeves. M&S also do a good backpack with a trolly sleeve

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/07/2021 00:23

I bought a "Molly" bag -- it's really a purse with a wristlet+ cross body strap .
It fits a few things - phone , cards, cash, keys , not much more

I'm not a fan of the white stitching with dark colours . Got the lilac which is pretty .
I don't wear leather/use leather so looking "cheap" isn't a problem for me personally . I;m not looking for something that would pass for leather .

I have the Mia tui Jenny. I've used it every day for 3 years for work lugging laptop and teacher stuff about and it still looks new. I love mine!

Scrunchies · 02/07/2021 06:51

Agree with @Pregnantpeppa about the lining. The annoying thing is they could make the bags look sooooo much better for little effort, ditch the turquoise lining, and those tacky star key ring things and they would look a lot more luxury. Plus change the white stitching on darker colours.

Scrunchies · 02/07/2021 06:53

I use longchamp everyday for my tote bag and it’s undeniably nicer, and just as practical. More lightweight as well. So I wouldn’t buy a tote style, but the Mia Tui backpacks come in larger styles than the longchamp back pack (which is mini but I love it). And the price of the Mia Tui crossbodies is far less than longchamp.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/07/2021 06:54

I'm not keep on the look, the seem a bit market stall and frumpy.

I love La Pliage but personally I find DAY by Birger et Mikkelsen Gweneth bags more practical and comfortable to carry for travel. They are reasonably priced but fold down as they are nylon. They also fit in a clothes hanger width wise so I've used mine as a make shift suit carrier. I have two, at least one was a TK Maxx bargain to quickly googling they seem to have come down in price since I bought anyway.

Wegobshite · 02/07/2021 07:16

I also have a large collection of le Pilage and Day et but I hate the fact that you can’t find anything in them
You need to have a separate mini bags inside to find anything

Bagelsandbrie · 02/07/2021 07:22

I actually really like the light lining as it makes it easier to see and find things when you have a lot of stuff in there.

The Longchamp bags aren’t comparable - they don’t have the same amount of pockets. They’re basically just a large empty space with a small zipped pocket (on some of them anyway) whereas the MT ones have multiple sections where I can stuff stuff!

Ellpellwood · 02/07/2021 07:49

I use bag organisers in mine! Helps keep the shape and adds pockets.

Forestdweller11 · 02/07/2021 07:54

I have three. One a laptop bag and another and two of the bigger shoulder bags. I love the coloured lining. I hate the dark lining you get in other brands. I can never find anything in them where with the Mia tui ones they are easy to delve into. Contrast lining is the major buying point for me. I'm not a bag fan and I do prefer a big bag to smaller ones but Ive a tendency to overfill and with the coloured contrast lining this means I can still find things.

Oh and I think Jane MacDonald has them (although not sure if that's a valid marketing point!) . They aren't swish bags but practical, they do what they say in the tin and are easy to wear.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/07/2021 07:59

Oh and I think Jane MacDonald has them

and for that reason, I'm out Grin

onlyconnect · 02/07/2021 09:34

lazylinguist my thought exactly! Happy to pay £80 or more for a bag, but nylon!

@Bagelsandbrie

Exactly I can never find anything in my longchamps bags and I just use the larger ones when travelling to put my clothes in inside my suitcase so that everything is neat 😂
I like the coloured lining as it means I’m not looking into a black hole and I can find everything easily

Odisia · 02/07/2021 11:01

I have one, not sure of the name but it's a larger one designed fo4 travel. I think they are really frumpy, sorry. Mine has been relegated to a gym bag.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 02/07/2021 11:04

I have one of their backpacks. I tend to use it for all the kids stuff if were going out and I need a change of clothes etc. I also used it for work for ages.

I like it! Really soft squishy feeling, mine has lasted well as I dont tend to “baby” my bags and its been chucked around everywhere.

I don't think £53 for a mysterious unspecified "man made fabric" is any better than nylon with leather handles/flap trim!

I have this backpack too and use it pretty much everyday with 3.5 year old DD. Fab upright pocket for a water bottle and I can chuck my usual handbag clutter in there with snacks/couple of small toys and still have room to spare. Doesn't get "babied" either just chucked about and is in great shape a year on.
SallyOMalley · 02/07/2021 19:16

I bought a Mia Tui bag in a sale for about £20 8-10 years ago.

Great for stashing away stuff for the kids and I've used it occasionally since. But .... I get put off by the plastic feel and mine is an odd shade of blue/grey with white stitching that just feels wrong.

Would love to find an alternative. Now I wfh and occasionally go into the office, I could do with something similar to lug around laptop etc.

Now see I like the look of that backpack but mine just looked a bit cheap. I think, like other people, it's the white stitching that makes it look a bit 'off'.
EssexLioness · 02/07/2021 20:02

Yes, I bought a maroon backpack from them about 3 days ago. I love it. Really good quality and still looks smart/ as new after using it 2-3 times a week. I also bought a purse 2 years ago which I use every day: still looks just as good as when it first arrived. I am 43 and think it looks nice, not frumpy. I have had several compliments on the backpack
