Please recommend me a flattering blusher!

Hi,

Just that really. I have a quite fair, neutral skin tone, but I don't seem to suit blusher at all. I used to just think that it's simply a product that's not for me and I quite liked to embrace the pale anyway.

However, since hitting my mid 30's, I desperately need some life and colour injecting into my skin.

Thing is, I look good with my natural glow/blush, but can't ever seem to be able to replicate it.

Pinky tones don't seem to suit me at all. I suspect reddy tones probably look better on me, but I'm scared of that doll face effect Blush

Also don't know whether to go for powder or cream blush.

TIA

Innocent peach blushing blush by clinique. I'm a pale and neutral blonde and have tried loads, and this is the best.

MargaritasForever · 22/06/2021 15:00

That's quite a coral tone isn't it @Vohgue. I don't think I would look at that and think it would suit me, but then the colours I'm drawn to never do Confused

It's super natural looking on me and although it's quite pigmented it never looks overdone. I have peachy/neutral undertones. I can't wear NARS orgasm blush on the other hand as I find it quite ruddy (too pink/red) on me.

OldTinHat · 22/06/2021 15:12

Dandelion from Benefit.

PawsQueen · 22/06/2021 15:20

I'm fair and cool toned and really like tarte paarty blush, it's very forgiving
They've got some other shades too which are nice

Trytothinkofaname · 22/06/2021 15:39

Look at the colour of your gums and buy a blusher that colour. Recommended to me by one of the people at Bobbi-Brown and she was right.

PurpleDaisies · 22/06/2021 15:40

Healthy glow from Dior. It looks bright pink but it’s lovely on. Also dandelion from benefit.

crumble82 · 22/06/2021 15:42

Glossier cloud paint is amazing, I can’t imagine using a different one. It sounds like you’d suit ‘puff’ but have a look online.

Trytothinkofaname · 22/06/2021 15:46

Seriously - ignore all these suggestions of specific shades (go with the brands by all means). But your colouring means you need a blusher that suits your skin tone. Not Joe Blogg's skin tone.

AN article here about the same - using inside of your lip to help you determine the best shade. www.bustle.com/articles/201220-this-weird-trick-will-help-you-find-your-perfect-shade-of-blush

The water colour blushes by Daniel Sandler are very good .

ChequerBoard · 22/06/2021 15:52

I used to use the Daniel Sandler watercolour blushes and they are good. I have now found the Chantecaille Cheek Gelee which is similar much a much nicer consistency being gel rather than runny and watery and therefore much easier to apply.

It is expensive at £40, but it is so good, really natural and easy to use -definitely worth the money!

I have a similar problem. I am pale with pink undertones and neither coral or pinky/red colours look right on me. I was given a sample of a blusher that was slightly purpley. Thought it would make me look like a corpse, but it worked. It also works well in lip colours too.

The one I had was Surrat's La vien rose. Expensive though.
If you do a google image search on the blusher you will see pics of people that have tested it on their arms against other colours to see how it's purple based but still natural.

TheHoundsofLove · 22/06/2021 17:38

I second Benefit's Dandelion. I'm also fair and it's a perfect natural pink for me - makes my face look brighter but isn't especially noticeable as being blusher.

Pinkywoo · 22/06/2021 17:48

If you want to try dandelion without spending a fortune, natural collection pink cloud is virtually identical. I'm pale and neutral and have been using it for years.

Tangledtresses · 22/06/2021 18:38

I like nars orgasm colour
It's v light... but you can build it up if you're more tanned.... I'm deathly white in the winter, it gives a nice glow!

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 22/06/2021 19:13

I love Clinique Iced Lotus.

Very cool pink. Brightening.

Girlintheframe · 22/06/2021 19:41

Glossier cloud paint in dusk.

Very natural looking, just gives you a healthy natural look

Minesnotahighhorse · 22/06/2021 20:04

I was nearly 40 before I twigged that peachy blusher suits my pale, tends to flush skin much more than pink tones. Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow stick in no. 22 is my must have.

LadyPeppermint · 22/06/2021 22:25

Coming to suggest Glossier cloud paint in storm. It looks dark but dabbed on lightly with a brush, i find it's more of a natural look than all of the other shades on my own pale skin.
It really is very flattering.

LibertyMole · 22/06/2021 22:33

Glossier or Clinique chubby stick. Roly posey Rosie is the reddish one.

Dandelion is more of a pink face powder than an actual blusher, and I say that as a very pale person.

Kjr33 · 23/06/2021 13:07

Glossier could paint, I find beam good but I think you need to figure out if you are cool or warm toned, trying on red lipstick is a good way to do this, you need to try on an orange toned poppy type red and a blue toned red and see which looks best then you can decide which sort of blush you need.

MargaritasForever · 23/06/2021 13:32

Thanks for all the recommendations!

@Kjr33, definitely blue toned, but I was told by my hairdresser I was neutral. I certainly can't wear any colour though! I don't suit gold jewellery, only silver and sometimes rose gold, but I have a mix of green and blue veins and yellow undertones. Didn't used to. Tbh, I think I'm just becoming a bit sallow as I age Sad

OP posts:
willowsmumsy · 23/06/2021 13:37

I'm quite sallow 😁
I like the Charlotte Tilbury beauty light wand for a subtle hint of colour.

Flambola · 23/06/2021 20:54

I think the Mac sheertone blushers are lovely, very natural looking on the skin and can be worn sheer or built up. If you go to a Mac store they could help you choose one.

Rainallnight · 23/06/2021 21:13

I’ve never really found anything better than Benetint
