Purchases you regret?

I think it's safe to say we've all made a few purchases that we retreat for one reason or another. I've been going through my wardrobe lately realising I've spent so much money on things I've just not got much use out of for one reason or another. I've also scored some great deals on eBay as a result of other people's purchases they've not even bothered to wear / use recently.

One of mine that has stood out is this LV Graceful bag. At the time I already had several other LV bags and was using my Neverful every day as my daily work bag. I got the Graceful, and while I do love it I think it's just too corporate looking for my day to day outfits now which are a bit more casual elegant I'd say. Wish I'd chosen a different style.

What do you regret buying?

I'd hoped for the same. I always joke that I have the complexion of a teenage boy (I'm a greasy bastard despite being 42).

I don't HATE Les Meteorites... But it doesn't give me that chic, luminous, glow I was hoping for. And on Zoom calls... It makes my face look like porridge.

Mine are the cheap things I've bought instead of holding off and waiting for more expensive stuff-garner bb cream, max factor primer, loreal primer, loreal concealer, Revlon chubby sticks, rimmel highlighter, rimmel primer, maybelline primer (yes I have a problem!)

Expensive eyeliners which promise no smudging, the lying tarts. Back to Rommel Exaggerrate at £2.43.

L’Oréal wonder water! Not a great waste of money as only cheap but it literally did nothing for my hair other than make it worse!

Kiehls vitamin c eye concentrate! The face one is awesome (which is why I bought the eye one) but it's awful!

A full compliment of the ordinary face stuff - skin hated it all

And many others 😂

A dress I had made by a seamstress, supposed to be a copy of another dress that I own and which I ADORE. Spent tons on lovely fabric, thought it would be like my most-loved dress just in another colour. The made to measure dress was hideous and ended up triple the price after fabric and labour. My dh looked at it and just went nope. Still in the wardrobe and I cant even sell it as it's unbranded and made to measure.

Hourglass powders are so overrated! Imo Becca powders are much better at leaving a lovely dewy type sheen

Avon Glimmersticks are fantastic too. They beat every £20+ one I’ve ever misguidedly bought.

@Vohgue post a pic? Maybe someone here would buy it? (Also to satisfy my curiosity 😆)

My sister had a seamstress made dress when she was bridesmaid for a friend. The friend had the idea that she could get all her bridesmaids to send their favourite dress to the seamstress who then copied the dresses. Such a good idea, but when my sister got her dress, it was far too tight and clingy, as she hadn't accounted for the fact her favourite dress was stretchy and the bride's chosen fabric wasn't! She squeezed into it on the day and put on a brave face for the bride, but she wasn't happy with how she looked at all. Put me off the idea and @Vohgue has sort of confirmed that! I wish I could make dresses myself and alter them. Must be such a great skill to have.

Yes apart from my wedding dress which was amazing everything else I’ve had made to measure has been disappointing.m to the point of never being worn.

A Barbour wax jacket.

The wax wore off so damn quick, I have to buy a tin and rewax it myself and who has the time?

Its also not breathable, so on country walks you sweat like a pig.

It's also a wierd in between season coat. It's not warm enough for winter where you wear puffa coats, but too warm for May onwards. Basically there's only a tiny window in March/April and maybe September when it suits the weather. And if its a cold but humid day not even then because of the sweatiness.

I don't know why they're so popular. I guess they're only good for standing still on shoots?

Bras that are expensive then don't fit or dig in or my size changes

Oh yes bras! Fucking bras! My nightmare. I'm large of Nork and my size seems to change a lot.

I've had success with Molke bras. Not super sexy, but look nice enough on me and, crucially, provide support without underwire or horribly tight back strap, which they always put me in in Bravissimo, but which I hate.

A vintage brown leather Prada bag. I knew it was overpriced (£350) but it looked stunning in the pictures, lovely aged leather, and I thought I’d use it forever. Turns out it was a bit smaller than I imagined, and completely impractical. Because I was having to cram my stuff into it, it didn’t hang nicely but looked bulky and awkward, and the worst was my keys managed to rip and shred the lining, so the chances of me selling it on and getting any sort of decent price for it are not looking good. Wish I’d just scrolled on by…

Yes and the straps slip down even though they were great when you tried it on

A few things recommended by Sali Hughes. My fault entirely as I have completely different hair and skin type and tone to her. I’ve just seen her bargain beauty list today though and am sitting on my hands!

All the things I bought whilst on a diet, thinking 'I will fit into this soon...' Nope, queen of yoyo diets and never actually get to that size! My ebay account is a gift for those of smaller proportions! Also a bright green sequinned kimono that I thought I would wear to a festival... aged 53! Really, what was I thinking? I just looked ridiculous. I'm all for wearing what you want and not following the age appropriate crap but it was a step too far!

@RolyPolyBatFace I have an oxblood Bayswater too, which I use for work. I only have to carry it to the car and back but it is heavy so I don't really use it if I'm shopping (but don't do that at the moment!). Don't think it was worth the huge price tag though, the leather hasn't really stood up to the daily use, so regret it in some ways.

Looking for a new signature scent I decided YSL libre was 'the one'. Bought a 100ml bottle.
I hate it.

I went on a bit of a spree (for me) and bought Maui shampoo and conditioner, Maui body wash x3, body lotion x2 and a conditioning treatment.
£75 later...I hate them all.
@Prettybubblesintheair might be a daft suggestion but I think there's a fluid people add to broken eye shadows that once dry fixes them. Could you crush the pearls in individual colour and press them yourself in a pan going of the colour clusters from a photo of the pressed one? Might save money if you can
It's surgical spirit.
It does indeed work.

@Blissful yep I hear ya. I'm lucky in some ways that I bought the bag when John Lewis were doing a 20 % off mulberry a few years back. My best friend worked there at the time too so that was another 25% off on top using staff discount. Still was a steep £660 but not as bad as it could have been

DYSON HAIRDRIER!!! The WORST.

It was a present and it knots my hair terribly. Like, comical enormous knots!

The bastards just shrugged at me as my super organised husband bought it way before the 35 day money back offer.

I wonder if the excess hand sanitiser I seem to collect would work for this? So far I've used it for cleaning shower tray before resealing, and for getting oil out of clothes.
