Who's had a pixie cut ?

I'm at that horrible post partum stage where my hair is coming out by the handful. I've never had my hair in a pixie cut and I am debating getting one. Has anyone gone for it and did you regret it?

No, but my hair has been thinning badly and I asked my hairdresser about it and she said it doesn't really work for thin/thinning hair.

Blueballinthegarden · 16/06/2021 11:31

I did when I was a lot younger, I felt very Parisian and bohemian at the time but it was a nightmare to grow out when I got bored of it.

Blueballinthegarden · 16/06/2021 11:31

Also, it took more styling than I expected and had the patience for, I missed being able to shove it into a scruffy bun.

IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld · 16/06/2021 11:36

I have a very short pixie and love it as it's easy maintenance but it is a PITA to grow out as it takes forever. My hair is thick and wavy so has some texture, not sure it would work on fine straight hair but happy to be corrected.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 16/06/2021 12:54

Ive had a pixie cut a few times - normally i'll grow it shoulder length get really pissed off with it and go for the chop!

I have thick, wavy hair and found it a doddle to style - wash, dry, seasalt spray - job done

Growing it out, not so easy to manage!!!

Lovemusic33 · 16/06/2021 13:30

I’m getting one tomorrow due to my hair being in awful condition. I’m worried my hair won’t be thick enough so I might have to go really short?

Procrastatron · 16/06/2021 18:26

My hair isn’t thick but I had a pixie for around seven years. I only grew it out when my trusted hairdresser went on mat leave… and then lockdown hit anyway. If you get the right cut and product it’s a 3 minute styling job. My experience was to avoid the long swooshing asymmetric fringe as I didn’t have the weight for it and it had a life of its own. I loved it, I changed colours often because it grew out quickly, wore statement earrings and sometimes a bright lipstick….
Always on the cusp of going back

Had one in early 20s and regretted it hugely - lots of comments about how I must have been a man! Never again!

PearlHeart3 · 16/06/2021 18:40

I had one in my mid twenties, really quick to dry but you have to style it otherwise it has a tendency to do its own thing (none of which is good!) I didn't regret it at all, but people always tell me I look better with longer hair.

Depending on where you are experiencing postpartum hairloss, a pixie cut might not be the best. My postpartum hairloss was mainly around the front hairline and a general loss all over as my hair felt quite thin, especially at the crown. I found wearing Alice bands helped until it grew back, it took about a year as I seemed to shed hair for about 6 months.

Mines a pixie after a 1st lockdown DIY buzzcut. Assumed for years it wouldn't work on my moon face but I like it.

SunscreenCentral · 16/06/2021 20:29

I went for a different style after lockdown. It's like the Belgian Eurovision singers cut. Nice in the salon but I hate it. Going back to my pixie asap. I have fine thinnish hair and it really works for me

Aisforharlot · 16/06/2021 20:32

Yes, but growing it out is so unflattering and takes an age.

Powertothepetal · 16/06/2021 21:41

I did, I regretted it straight away!
I really thought I’d love it but I didn’t and now it is taking an absolute age to grow out..

Rollerbird · 16/06/2021 21:54

I loved it and grew it out with first lockdown.
Just getting to a nice length now
It's was very short

2me2u2u2me · 16/06/2021 22:08

I had long blonde hair and just went for it, all off, had a Gwyneth Paltrow sliding doors look, go for it

Lilsoph · 16/06/2021 22:25

Ive had a pixie cut since I was about 13/ 14 years old with the exception of a year or so when I grew it to shoulder length and had a perm in the late 80s. Never regret it and just had it cut again after 3 / 4 months. Shaved it with a number 8 guard last summer but that was a bit too short. Washed and styled in 2 minutes but I hate faffing with dryers or straighteners. 😍

Cocolapew · 16/06/2021 22:26

I've had one for years, it's my favourite cut.

merryhouse · 16/06/2021 22:41

I get a pixie every six months or so (since 2013).

The first few days I had it, I discovered why it's considered a lesbian cut. Without exception, every woman of my acquaintance said how much she liked my hair. With one exception, every man of my acquaintance said something along the lines of "oh!.... do you like it?" Grin

(The honourable mention goes to H, who said "wow - that's going to take some getting used to" but two days later came out with "you know, I really like your hair like that")

My hair manages to be both fine and coarse, never grows past my shoulder blades and gets split ends long before that, and has spent 50 years with only its colour to redeem it. Last time I had a cut I was surprised to see that it looked less white afterwards. We'll see what happens this time...

Itsafineday · 16/06/2021 22:45

I vary between long and cropped short.

I love a pixie, if you get a good cut it's easy to look after.

It is a pain growing it out but you can get it styled and shaped as you go along even if you don't get much trimmed off.

I'm currently debating whether to chop again but am actually enjoying longer hair for now.

My philosophy though is "Hair Grows"
So even if you don't like it it won't be forever.

Really? I've had lots of sincere compliments from men on my short hair (not that it would influence me either way).

Some of them seemed to find it very attractive indeed.

MadMadMadamMim · 16/06/2021 22:51

Love my pixie cut. I grew out my grey in first lockdown then had it chopped into a pixie. Best decision I ever made.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/06/2021 23:40

I got a pixie when my hair started falling out with stress - it felt like I was cutting all the bad stuff (work) away! I used to have ti get it cut every four weeks or it started to look shaggy. I grew it out by letting the sides and top come down, but keeping the back in tight. It was a high maintenance period but actually pretty painless because my then hairdresser was excellent. (She went off to have a baby and then decided to become a SAHM which was lovely for her, but less great for me!)

Livingoffroyalities · 17/06/2021 06:57

I have a pixie cut which I think looks chic. It also saves me tons of time on blow drying and styling my hair.

mrsrobin · 17/06/2021 07:41

I have a curly hair version, was a shock when I had it cut off, now I love it!
