Who's had a pixie cut ?

I'm at that horrible post partum stage where my hair is coming out by the handful. I've never had my hair in a pixie cut and I am debating getting one. Has anyone gone for it and did you regret it?

I have always had my hair short, but then I have really annoying fine hair that doesn't grow beyond my jawline anyway.

My main advice is that your current hairdresser may not be the right one for you. You need someone who understands your hair type and cuts short hair a lot. (Don't ask me how I know this, the Great Hair Disaster of 2018 is still too painful...) If you're feeling ballsy (and you don't live in a huge city) the best thing to do is to stop women with great short hair in the street and ask them who cut it!

I’ve had one a few times and I’ve never regretted it.

Ninkanink · 17/06/2021 09:35

And I’ve had plenty of compliments from men on my short hair. Although pigs will fly before I’m going to give one fuck what men think of my hair.

Ninkanink · 17/06/2021 09:38

(Sorry sounded a bit too adamant there! 😊)

inappropriateraspberry · 17/06/2021 09:43

I have fine hair. I've had a pixie cut a few times. It's good for fine hair, but it depends how much you're actually losing. Talk to your hairdresser. Great style, easy to wash and go, but as others say, a pain to grow out!

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 17/06/2021 09:44

I've had a pixie for years and I've never had a problem with male attention (not that that is exactly something that preoccupies me). I like it, and I consider anything that turns off men who like their women with Conspicuous Signifiers of Femininity to be a bonus arsehole-weeder.

I mix it up with colour and with changing the cut and texture various ways.

MindBodyChocolate · 17/06/2021 09:46

I’ve had pixies for many years and love them! The key is to go to a hairdresser who is up to date with modern cutting techniques and go for something more on the side of cool than traditional. Plus find a good product for loads of texture and you’ll look amazing.

My hair was TOO thick for it. Meant a Christopher Walken effect, standing up in odd places. Prefer keeping the top longer and going shorter underneath.

toolazytothinkofausername · 17/06/2021 09:51

I've done it twice. Each time I love it for 5 minutes, then I'm ready for it to grow out again Grin

Yes, I totally agree with this!!!

I've had people do this to me a few times and I found it a compliment.

covidandborisandworld · 17/06/2021 09:59

I've had a few over the year. Love them but they do take maintenance. You need a really good cutter to be able to grow out nicely and I had to wash mine everyday as it was impossible to style from bed head.

Beamur · 17/06/2021 10:03

DD has a pixie and it looks great. She has thick wavy hair and it's super low maintenance this way.

nordica · 17/06/2021 10:23

I've had it a couple of times and while I like it, I always end up growing my hair after because I miss having a bit more hair to style. I think my face and body shape/type and also my clothing style suits my hair being a little longer. I loathe to say "more feminine" but it's true in my case - a bit of a side swept fringe I can add wave/curl to with straighteners really suits my face best.

I'm a big fan of short hair in general though and a short cut feels incredible, especially in hot weather! And so easy to wash and dry in minutes.

MrsBunHat · 17/06/2021 10:24

Yes, I've always had short hair. At the moment mine is similar to pearlheart's pic below (but dark). I do have fine hair and it's a bit thinner than it used to be with menopause, but there are lots of great thickening products - salt spray is good for making it thicker and easy to style, and a bit of volumising powder for the roots.

I love it and it suits my personality. And I think loads of women look beautiful with short hair. But yes lots of men aren't that keen or will make assumptions about you. Not that I haven't had my fair share of blokes :o but it does put off a certain type. (A type I can live without!)

By don't do it in a city, I mean because you'll likely get hairdresser recommendations from miles away that are no good to you, not because there's something particularly petrifying about pixie-cut wearers in Birmingham!
FrangipaniBlue · 17/06/2021 14:39

I had this cut done very recently...... (previously a one sided chin length bob/lob).

I wear it flat for everyday (or with a couple of kirby grips in he front) and I style it "up"

Love it! Easy maintenance especially as I do a lot sport.

That's not me btw just the photos I showed the hairdresser 😂

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 17/06/2021 14:45

@FrangipaniBlue my hair is very similar - a bit shorter all over.

MotherQueenXeno · 17/06/2021 14:50

I had it done and felt instantly middle aged and frumpy, despite being late 20's at the time. Then I realised I had the same hair cut as many teenage boys at the time which was the final straw. Plus points were it worked really well for my fine frizzy hair and was very easy to style.

Standrewsschool · 17/06/2021 14:59

I had various versions of a pixie cut for twenty years, including very short.

The first lockdown meant it grew out and now it’s chin length.. Must admit, I love having longer hair again. Although short was easy to manage, I can now have more fun with my hair. The only disadvantage was it felt very hot during the very weather we”ve just had.

Standrewsschool · 17/06/2021 15:01

I always took a picture of Anne Hathaway with a pixie cut to the hairdressers.

LouisaMayAlcott · 17/06/2021 15:29

I have fine hair and have had a pixie cut for years. I have lots of choppy layers so I can spike it up a bit with wax and it makes it look a bit thicker. I love it, it suits my face shape, but I do have it trimmed every 6 weeks so it stays looking fresh.

66babe · 17/06/2021 16:37

Love my pixie
I can change it up regularly as it's also bleached .. so I can be blond silver pink purple or blue depending on the mood
Great for my thick course strong hair .. not so great for my increasingly fat face

TulipVictory · 17/06/2021 20:09

Thanks everyone! Think I'm going to book in 🙈🙈 not sure how good my regular hairdresser is at pixies though and unsure of how to find one that is 🤔
