How many very tall MNers wear heels regularly?

Because I quite like them but have always felt like some sort of freak when I do. So I keep them for special occasions and then. more often then not, chicken out and put flatter shoes on. After all a 3" pair of heels makes me 6'2" tall. Mind you being 5'11" in the first place makes me a freak compared to a lot of people.

So who is happy to do this? Do you wear them and be damned? Or stick to flat shoes. And what do the more delicately-boned amonsgt us think? Do you see a six-foot plus women and instantly think she's a man in drag as I secretly fear, or what?

In between bothers me too. When DH was doing his teaching practice there was a teacher who used to wear flowery leggings and pumps with little heels. The image remains with me to this day...

Just under 6ft and used to avoid them like the plague (having a 5ft 6 boyfriend at the time did not help).

As I grew older I decided that I loved being tall - the taller the better and I now wear heels every day to work (not 4" ones though or I would be writing this from a hospital bed).

I'm only 5'10'', but NEVER wear heels. At work I stand for 10 hours a day so no chance! I really am a trainers and jeans gal. I've got really long legs and a short body, so walking in heels makes me look like bambi Also finding trousers long enough in flats is bad enough, but to cope with heels!

lilacclaire · 20/11/2007 23:06

Ohh I love my heels!
Im 5ft 11 and mainly consist of long legs.
I do try to keep to a size 10/12 though otherwise I feel too heavy and 'drag queeny'
DP only 5ft 9 and wouldnt dream of not wearing my heels on a night out

imaginaryfriend · 20/11/2007 23:08

I'm 5,8" and never wear heels. Even if I'm buying boots and they have more than a 1" heel I won't buy them. I feel too self-conscious to be taller than I am.

Quattrocento · 20/11/2007 23:13

I'm 5'10" and never wear heels.

This is partly because I would fall over and partly because although I like being tall, I really don't want to be too much taller.

It makes finding nice shoes a bit of a problem though.

I am 5'11 too and never wear heels.
I feel a bit freaky if I am any taller.

Jennster · 21/11/2007 09:10

Would love to be taller, but finding long enough trousers is pain at only 5'10''

OrmIrian · 21/11/2007 10:04

lilaclaire - I'm mostly leg too. I have to get 34" or even 36" length jeans if I can. Have stopped even looking at trousers in normal shops these days.

I agree about staying smaller. People always assume that you can get away with being bigger because you are taller - whereas in fact I feel like you, tall and big is worse than short and big.

jennster - Gap do long length jeans and apparently so do Top Shop although I've never tried there.

Thanks Ormrian. Topshop sizes are to slim for me. Used to fit in them but I'm pushing size 16 in hips and thighs, but the waist sizes are enormous. Actually I don't do too badly for jeans. New Look have some great Tall jeans. It's other trousers. The Tall ranges are all very cheap and nasty fabrics and very rarely anything I want to wear. Next Extra long are still too short to wear heels with.

Jennster · 21/11/2007 10:22

oops ormirian and meant too not to

I'm 5'11 and used to live in stilettoes. These days My heels are of an entirely chunkier nature, but I would always wear them, shorter dp or not. (fortunatley my dh is 6'5!) I have even been known to wear enormous platforms of a goth type on a night out to an appropriate club, which make me roughly 6'5 myself. Excellent stuff. Tall is wonderful.

Totally agree about the size 42's though. Really gets on my last nerve. I can never find shoes to fit in normal shops, have to buy all my boots from evans, and they're huge on the leg, even on a not necessarily skinny at all chick like me...

I dread to think what sort of drag queen I must look like! I love being tall and curvy and wearing heels.
