Smelly trainers

I bought a new pair of Brookes trainers two weeks ago and have worn them 5/6 times (on 5km stints) and they’re stinking!

I’ve never had smelly feet or smelly trainers before so I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do to stop it getting worse. My socks dont smell and my feet don’t smell and none of my old trainers smell, just these trainers.

It took me ages to find the right fit and now this. I can’t wash them as it will compromise the integrity of the sole and supports. Is there anything I can do or should I just expect green wafting trails behind me when I’m out on my 5k now?

You can buy a charcoal bag type thing that might help DH had same issue with one pair of his shoes and they worked. DS also has them for his boxing gloves, think they are called something attractive like no stink

Cat litter absorbs the smell

Thanks all. I won’t be filling my shoes with cat litter but I’ll give the no stink a go.

I’m just really annoyed that they’ve got so smelly so quickly when I have trainers I’ve worn daily for the past year that don’t smell of anything

I had a new pair of Mizunos that stank of cat pee after they got wet- nothing worked so they had to go. My current New Balance shoes have it to a lesser degree, again when wet, but I can live with it.

@CadiM ugh! I didn’t expect them to turn bad as none of my other trainers smell but to have them smell after a few wears is crap. It’s not like I can take them back to complain 😂😂

Bicarbonate of soda absorbs the smell. Sprinkle some in the shoes and leave overnight.
