Keratosis pilaris aka chicken skin, has anyone found a cure yet

Just checking as I do periodically. Google has all the usual suggestions that I've tried with various results. I have a routine now that keeps mine in check and improved by about 80% of what it was (diet, salt scrub, neutrogena hydro boost lotion) and if I stick to this my skin feels smooth but still has the annoying red spots. I've been letting my skin see some sun lately which helps but nothing gets rid of the kp completely.

Has anyone found anything that gets rid of kp or at least reduces the red dots?

I regularly exfoliate with Korean Italy washcloths and then use Ameliorate body lotion daily which massively helps with bumps and red spots/dots.

I also recently bought a Braun IPL device for hair removal and I think (still early days, only had it 4 weeks) that is improving the skin on my legs even more. KP was awful, all over my legs before I started with the ameliorate, it has been a real game changer for me as I have tried countless other remedies and nothing else has even come close to improving it.

Tip I got off here was to use flexitol (or any other urea heavy cream) - worked for me

PleasantBirthday · 02/06/2021 15:45

A light gradual tanning lotion every other day helps to disguise it a bit.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/06/2021 17:18

Just very rich moisturisers. I'm using Neutragena hand cream at the moment.

Geamhradh · 02/06/2021 17:19

Ameliorate totally cured my daughter's. She uses it every so often now.
Anything with lactic acid really, Avene do one, but it's not as good as Ameliorate.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/06/2021 17:23

Try a body lotion with an exfoliating acid, as PP said. Something with AHAs or BHAs should help a lot.

Also, not quite the same thing but I used to have quite bumpy skin on my outer thighs, but since I started exercising again they are much smoother - I think because of the increased blood flow.

GallopingGreen · 02/06/2021 17:24

Place marking... for me and DD

Gwenhwyfar · 02/06/2021 17:27

"Something with AHAs or BHAs should help a lot."

I tried the Palmers one with these, but it didn't work. Just the richest Palmers worked better - the one for rough skin.

Peri-menopause has sorted mine out so there’s hope for the future unless you’ve already hit that stage.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 02/06/2021 17:35

Switching from shower gel to a natural soap got rid of mine

spacedandtimed · 02/06/2021 18:02

Cerave smoothing moisturiser, something with urea

EducatingArti · 02/06/2021 18:10

Mine naturally disappeared ( along with a lot of asthma and ibs symptoms) when I went gluten free!

Rina66 · 02/06/2021 18:16

This is really good, just didn't think I paid £26 for it?

Boood · 02/06/2021 18:18

Cerave and Ameliorate both get rid of the bumps for me, but they come back if I don’t keep using it. The only way I’ve found of dealing with the red dots is covering them with a tan.

ASpoonfulofDust · 02/06/2021 18:21

Child's Farm kids moisturiser works incredibly well and gets rid of it on me and my daughter. It's just cheap stuff from Boots or supermarket, but works!

MrMeSeeks · 02/06/2021 18:23

Omg i didn't realise this was what i was suffering with!
Mine has improved now i am lasering at home it’s improved somuch.

Giftwithpurchase · 02/06/2021 18:46

Paulas Choice 2% bha body exfoliant is the only thing which works for me. Ameliorate/lactic acid/aha doesn't work on my KP but bha does

Luxembourgmama · 02/06/2021 18:47

Eating low carb really worked for me

Tootingbec · 02/06/2021 20:33

This worked wonders for me

www.avene.co.uk/body/specific-products/akerat/akerat-10-body-care-cream

But I have also found that other rich body moisturisers seem to work comparably well and are often cheaper. Aveeno has been pretty good

butterry · 02/06/2021 20:35

Diet change to low carb/no sugar is the only thing that has got rid of it

Pleasedontsayyouloveme · 02/06/2021 21:00

Using urea based cream like Eucerin clears mine right up

fourminutestosavetheworld · 02/06/2021 21:22

My gp prescribed salicylic acid ointment but I've bought it online in a big tub since then - absolutely magic, completely gone within weeks of daily use, and kept at bay with a weekly application.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 02/06/2021 21:23

Was £10 for 500g

Snog · 02/06/2021 21:25

Gluten free diet

Ameliorate - The cream in the pot rather than the tube of lotion
