Cotton midi dresses without frills!

sunshinesupermum · 01/06/2021 10:43

First world problems but why is it nigh impossible to find a print midi-length cotton dress without frills at a reasonable price ie £50 or less? Wrap dresses are a no-no too. TIA

The answer is always uniqlo!! 😎

Mango have some good cotton maxi dresses at the moment- I keep considering this one shop.mango.com/gb/women/dresses-and-jumpsuits-midi/flowers-cotton-dress_87065665.html

Unless you have boobs. I do like Uniqlo but their dresses are not flattering at all if you have boobs.

Pretty print and my favourite colours but a very unflattering voluminous shape even on a stick-thin model. Now imagine that with boobs and curves! I'm only a 12 but I know I'd feel enormous.
I don't understand these dresses; I want to, because I love the idea of them - but I don't get who they look good on?

If you do buy this one, size down! There a huge amount of material in this dress which doesn’t really show on the website

GreatSoprendo · 01/06/2021 20:41

Thanks @Mitchellernie and @Whosaidit - glad I didn’t add to my basket then. So hard to find anything that is cotton but not tent like :-(

How about this? www.collectif.co.uk/clothes-c1/flared-dresses-c3/vera-nautical-stripe-dress-p16141

Or this from Joules: www.johnlewis.com/joules-audrey-floral-pocket-waist-dress-navy-multi/p5393808
I rather like this cheongsam style from Joanie as an alternative to all the prairie frocks in vogue at the moment: joanieclothing.com/anna-may-black-floral-midi-dress.html

Zinnia · 01/06/2021 21:12

I don't know if you would call this frill-free, OP, but still with Mango I really like this green poplin number

chezbot · 01/06/2021 21:17

I'm coveting a few of these, buy one so i can get a vicarious buzz from it www.wearethought.com/clothing-sale/womens/

I got a nice one in matalan recently! I wouldn’t usually shop there, I’d popped in for some emergency baby vests because it was the only clothes shop near us open late. It’s really nice, 3/4 length sleeve and no frills at all!

fiorentina · 01/06/2021 23:11

Monki have a nice seersucker midi dress. Definitely size down.

sunshinesupermum · 01/06/2021 23:56

WrongKindOfFace I have boobs too! Very limiting sometimes!

That Monsoon dress is too voluminous, sorry Sad The Collective option has a deep frill and tbh am not into their 'vintage' styling The Joanie is a little different though.

Monki look good, thanks.

Not sure if tiers count as frills, but I'm wearing this today for the first time: www.johnlewis.com/and-or-bernie-jersey-dress/black/p5409910.

Feels lovely and comfy, but not too voluminous and it's proper cotton.

MareofBeasttown · 02/06/2021 10:01

Following. So many of them are polyester or viscose or foofy!

Bumzoo · 02/06/2021 10:16

Some look like old sacks, or they are ridiculously fussy.

Viscose is a lovely summer fabric, feels like cotton, is largely made of wood pulp so semi natural even though it’s technically man made, completely different to polyester
QuentininQuarantino · 02/06/2021 14:30

I bought this mango dress in both colours after reading recommendations on here and I LOVE it, I’m a size 12 and I think I look slimmer than this model does!

I was impressed by how many dresses in there were sustainable cotton (even just cotton is so hard to find these days) and that one has pockets!

MareofBeasttown · 02/06/2021 14:40

@whosaidit That may well be but it makes me itch in summer.
@QuentininQuarantino Ah so it's you who took my size 12 Mango dress. I needed that! Wink

The link doesn't work. Which one is it, please? Grin

QuentininQuarantino · 02/06/2021 14:55

I’m sorry, it’s because I’m not in the uk! But @MareofBeasttown that means I didn’t nab your dress!!

Cotton midi dresses without frills!
MareofBeasttown · 02/06/2021 15:02

Lol. I think the heat is getting to me. I realised I was looking at the Zalando site instead of the Mango site. I snagged the dress ( in red). If I see a lot of women walking around in this dress, it will be like a secret MN password.

I can't wear viscose either, without sweating like a pig.
