Open toe mules in the office

Potentially divisive question I know.

Specifically these: www.zara.com/uk/en/block-heel-sandals-p13329710.html?v1=108914210&v2=1718937 in pink and/or the lime/yellow the rest of the outfit would be far less in your face!

My theory is they are versatile for casual outfits too as the “pop of colour”

I would

Ninkanink · 25/05/2021 15:28

Yes I’d wear them. My footwear honestly kept me sane when I worked in an office. And I used to get so many compliments on my shoes!

Procrastatron · 25/05/2021 15:34

My job is office based and occasionally external facing. I wouldn’t wear them for external or high profile meetings.

Colleagues were discussing recently how office attire might change when we do head back now that we have seen even the most senior of stakeholders on Teams in their sportswear or Casual Wear, and I think this has swayed me. I have decided that they are fun and that’s needed at the moment...I’ve ordered both colours 😱

I don't see anything wrong with them unless there is a dress or safety code that prevents it. I wear sandals in the summer.

I change into safety boots if the activity requires it.

Serpenta · 25/05/2021 15:48

Also, I don't know any work places that allow open toed shoes for Health and Safety reasons.

I think I've worn sandals in the summertime in every office i've worked in.

The only thing that would give me pause with these, OP, would be the potential noise they'd cause as they flip flopped off your feet as you walked across a wooden floor. Could be annoying.

But naked toes are fine in the workplace imo.

SaskiaRembrandt · 25/05/2021 15:55

We can wear open toed sandals, but not backless ones because they're a trip hazard.

SaskiaRembrandt · 25/05/2021 15:57

@Procrastatron

I probably wasn’t clear. It’s neither super corporate nor manufacturing and I don’t believe the dress code is that prescriptive. My question was more “would you?” rather than “could you?”
In that case, no, I wouldn't wear them, they don't go with anything I own and I'm not a fan of pastels.
notacooldad · 25/05/2021 15:57

@notacooldad and @DadsTrilby how would you wear them both for work and casually?
My work place is very casual at the best of times!
However outside work I'd wear them with my faded light denim cropped jeans and a t shirt In the office ( probably the same). I'd wear them with a dress or wide leg linenl trousers and a fitted t shirt.
I'd agree about feet kept in decent shape though and I have regular foot treatments and gel nails as I like wearing sandals and flip flops in summer

lazylinguist · 25/05/2021 15:58

I have no problem with toes on show, but I wouldn't wear backless shoes to work.

Ninkanink · 25/05/2021 15:59

Oh just realised they wouldn’t have been allowed at my office - heeled mules are too much of a trip hazard. All open shoes had to have a strap.

notacooldad · 25/05/2021 16:01

Actually I've got a very similar pair in a darker pink about 2 years ago that I still have. In fact thinking about it they maybe the same. I'm not at home so can't check
I can't remember if I got them from Zara or Mango.
However I wore them to work.

woodhill · 25/05/2021 16:04

They look nice. I couldn't keep them on my feet.

I do wear sandals for work - I make sure my feet look ok

TableNiner · 25/05/2021 19:24

They’d look a bit over the top and try too hard in my office so it really does depend on the environment.

I have to admit that “try hard” sums me up pretty well

Thanks @notacooldad, I was wearing faded cropped jeans when I tried them on in Zara at the weekend. I couldn’t face the queue to pay though and then the doubt crept in when I got home.

I think they're cool. I only wouldn't wear them in the office because of the flip-flop nature of the sound they'd make when you walked around.

Would wreck people's heads & I think sound unprofessional (if that makes any sense 😀)

Re feet on display - not a problem but definitely needs pedicure & painted toes.

I think the " click click" noise of heels is just as bad!
I'm not getting the 'try too hard" comments at all. They are just a nice pair of sandals from a main stream fashion chain.. And as for looking "over the top " is that a joke?
They are pretty plain and go with most summer outfits from Capri's to maxi dresses shorts and jeans. They are hardly a pair of Jimmy Choo's😂😂

thedevilinablackdress · 26/05/2021 07:51

I wouldn't wear them as I'd be too cold (icy air-conditioning) and the fear of the accidental chair/toes thing a PP mentioned.
And, while I'm generally a super laid back, you do you, wear what you like kind of person, I secretly don't want to see anyone's toes (or armpits) in the office.
