Open toe mules in the office

Potentially divisive question I know.

Specifically these: www.zara.com/uk/en/block-heel-sandals-p13329710.html?v1=108914210&v2=1718937 in pink and/or the lime/yellow the rest of the outfit would be far less in your face!

My theory is they are versatile for casual outfits too as the “pop of colour”

You know your office dress code.
They would be a perfectly normal choice for where I work. In our ifficr this morning I'm wearing Adidas Campus trainers with my dress. I know that definitely wouldn't be allowed in many offices.

Bananarama100 · 25/05/2021 11:56

if it's a very corporate-y place, then no
if it's manufacturing/factory type environment, then no

some places with a strong HR and health & safety provision may ban open toe shoes, and things like flip flops, as being a safety hazard.

Procrastatron · 25/05/2021 11:59

I probably wasn’t clear. It’s neither super corporate nor manufacturing and I don’t believe the dress code is that prescriptive. My question was more “would you?” rather than “could you?”

Howzaboutye · 25/05/2021 12:07

Nope. Rarely are people's feet actually nice. Don't subject others to have to look at them!

murbblurb · 25/05/2021 12:22

Don't see a dress code issue, but don't whinge if you drop something on your toes or someone treads on them. They are flip flops with a small heel, not practical.

DadsTrilby · 25/05/2021 12:39

I would.

RampantIvy · 25/05/2021 12:41

No. Our dress code would make it a no. Those wouldn't go with any of my clothes, I wouldn't be able to walk in them, and I'm afraid I'm not keen on them. Sorry.

EversoDelighted · 25/05/2021 12:46

No, they look uncomfortable and impractical, even without dress code constraints.

notacooldad · 25/05/2021 12:57

Yes. I would. I have similar pairs.

toomuchfaster · 25/05/2021 12:59

I think they show far too much toe and it's gross.
Also, I don't know any work places that allow open toed shoes for Health and Safety reasons.

QueenPaw · 25/05/2021 13:05

Really depends on your dress code, my boss would send me home!

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/05/2021 13:06

Personally I wouldn’t as my feet aren’t nice to look at plus I hate the flapping thing that happens when wearing those kind of shoes. You can get that slapping sound as you walk and it makes me feel 🥴

Procrastatron · 25/05/2021 13:06

@notacooldad and @DadsTrilby how would you wear them both for work and casually?

OP posts:
Redcrayons · 25/05/2021 13:08

I think they’re too casual for work, but I prefer a formal dress code.

ZenNudist · 25/05/2021 13:10

No. Not a fan of open toes at work. Those in particular look like pool shoes. I also wouldn't do those for casual.

I wouldn't object to peep toe shoes but don't think they are particularly fashionable right now.

Elouera · 25/05/2021 13:19

Nope. Too casual and too much toe IMO. I'd also get cold toes, unless it was 30' and I was lounging by a pool!

I've seen far too many dirty, hairy, bent and ugly toes and also people wearing tights and those peep toe shoes. Hmm It a no from me, but they are your feet and if HR doesn't restrict, its your call.

MistyMinge2 · 25/05/2021 13:30

I have worn open toe sandals to work, and have some mule type ones. Although, there's something about these particular ones that means I wouldn't wear them to work. I think they are cut too far back which ends up with too much of your toes showing.

PrimeraVez · 25/05/2021 13:32

Yes, but I work in the Middle East where half of the local women wear shoes like this to work every single day.

My only caveat would be that you need to have well-maintained feet if you are going to be showing them in the workplace. No crusty heels or long toe nails!

Plexie · 25/05/2021 13:36

In every office I've ever worked in it's been normal to wear sandals at work in the summer. So I wouldn't think wearing those shoes odd, unless it was out of season.

And yes to what PPs have said about keeping your feet in good condition.

Amrythings · 25/05/2021 13:45

Our first aider would have your hide!

We're (under normal circumstances) crammed in like sardines, and open toed and backless footwear was summarily banned after someone moved their chair suddenly and ran over their deskmate's sandaled foot. It was not a good scene.

Boood · 25/05/2021 13:56

I think they look fine, but it has to be very, very warm for office aircon not to make the prospect of bare legs pretty unappealing. I don’t really get why people get worked up about female toes at work. I don’t spend that much time looking at other people’s feet.

RacheyCat · 25/05/2021 15:13

They're a fun, mildly edgy and fashionable pair of shoes. I'd wear them with a midi skirt, but not a maxi skirt. I'd wear them with wide-legged pants. I'd wear them with flares. I wouldn't wear them with tapered trousers. I would wear them to work.

Hypothetically, because I get a sore foot when I wear heels.

LolaSmiles · 25/05/2021 15:16

It's a no for me, but that's because I'm wary of open backed shoes at work. I can't stand listening to the flipping and flopping of backless shoes all day.

GodolphinHorne · 25/05/2021 15:23

I like the idea of the colours, but I wouldn’t wear them to work, because:

  • they would be too cold for my air-conditioned office
  • I had a style/image book when I was very young which had a photo captioned Peep Toe Shoes Have No Place In Business and I can’t get over it.
pooiepooie25 · 25/05/2021 15:25

Totally depends on your job and if you find them comfy! I think they are really nice.
