Dandruff help

MNers please help. I'm 35 and about a year or so ago, out of nowhere I developed dandruff right on the top of my head at the front. And it's making me so miserable Sad I have dark brown hair so it really shows up.

I don't know why it appeared out of the blue. I hadn't changed anything. I've tried loads of shampoos, nothing helps. The only one that's made it slightly better is the ginger one from Body Shop, but this has given me spots all over the top of my back so I don't want to use it anymore.

Does anyone have any advice please? I honestly absolutely hate it and feel so embarrassed. Thanks.

@Justnotfeelingit

I use actual Aveeno moisturiser once a week on the dry parts of my scalp. Tricky to get on, I section my hair like if I was getting my hair coloured, and paint it on and squish it in. Then leave it on overnight, wash in the morning.
I second this. I use Aloe Pura lotion with vitamin E from Holland and Barrett on my son's scalp twice a week in the same way as @Justnotfeelingit said and it makes an unbelievable difference. He doesn't leave it on overnight, just maybe 45 mins or so and then washes it out very well. It also leaves his hair lovely and soft. I give his scalp a gentle massage with a shampoo brush beforehand to loosen any flaky scalp bits too.

I was getting dry flaky scalp, I think it was related to my eczema...anyway it’s all gone once I started using one of those scalp massager shampoo brush things, think I paid £3 from Amazon. It didn’t work first go but I did see results within a few washes. I used a cheap tea tree shampoo from Sainsbury’s

I have suffered with dandruff for years, since I was a teenager and I'm in my late 30s now. I have tried EVERYTHING and I mean everything, I even went to see my GP over it and nothing has ever worked on me until I tried the body shops ginger shampoo. It is honestly amazing. Anyone suffering please give it a go you won't regret it.

I second Selsun as recommended by @NeilBuchananisBanksy - neither Nizoral nor TGel has worked for me (although Body Shop Ginger Shampoo did help reduce the flakes but didn’t get rid of it completely - I suspect I may have seborrheic dermatitis). I haven’t been able to find Selsun in high street chemists for at least a year now, so bought it from Chemist Direct.

It isn’t pleasant stuff but I have found that once you have used it a couple of times a week for the first few weeks to get rid of the flakes, you can then use it about once a fortnight or less to keep things under control.

I have seborrheic dermatitis and eczema, so suffer quite badly with my skin. If nothing is clearing it up it's worth going to the GP for a proper assessment. I get prescribed a steriod lotion, it's only for short term use, but brillant at clearing a really bad flare.

Came on to say apple cider vinegar is your friend but a pp has beaten me to it. Dd has very severe dandruff patches, due to the colour of her hair it is very noticeable. Several times per week I spray ACV in and leave it for about half an hour before washing. It makes such a difference.

Thanks all, I've ordered a shampoo brush and some t-gel from amazon and Nizoral from Ocado. I'll make my way through the suggestions in this thread and see if any help! I'm desperate enough to try them all.
