Botox first timer ... what to expect ?

headzupp · 18/05/2021 10:09

As the title says ... I've decided to try Botox. I'm a tired 46 year old with deep forehead wrinkles which I've had all my life .. inherited .. but deepening. Plenty of crows feet and thinning skin around my eyes , lined upper lips from smoking, nasolabial folds that are age appropriate etc.
Can I ask what will happen at the treatment . Do I decide or do they .. what the best treatment is?
I have hooded eyes so I'm a bit nervous about forehead Botox! I sound like a real princess don't I !!!
What to expect please? I'm excited but nervous. I look tired and old. I'd like to look like the stress has gone from my face. Any advice welcome too!
Thanks

Hi OP, your practitioner should ask you what your areas of concern are so they can recommend the right treatment for you. they should also offer a follow up appointment 2 weeks after your first ro make any tweaks necessary (on my first appointment I barely saw any difference so had a little more on my 2 week follow up). You can always ask for a light touch at first to see how you go, then top up if needed. Are you seeing someone who has been recommended to you/has good reviews & credentials? I researched lots if local practitioners before choosing one and her recommendations from others put me at ease.

Had my first today! Ask me anything!

I had a consultation a few weeks ago where everything was discussed.

Then had three areas done today. I'm really really happy I've taken the plunge but not expecting to see results for a week or so.

UKhun · 19/05/2021 10:33

Got up today wondering if I'd see any difference...nope!

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 19/05/2021 14:10

One think I will emphasise which really caused me problems was cleanse my face after really rubbing my face, which then caused headaches and migration of the Botox, ultimately I was fine after a few days but I made me feel very strange. So no rubbing your face vigorously!

Bluedeblue · 19/05/2021 14:14

Practitioner will inject the areas that need attention. It doesn't hurt. She will ask you to do a cheesy grin and a grimace, to see where the lines are. You won't see results for about 5 days. You will need to go back in 2 weeks for a possible top up. It's brilliant, you will look loads younger!

Bluedeblue · 19/05/2021 14:15

Oh yes, do not rub your face afterwards! Also, no exercise for the rest of the day and no lying down. If you make lots of different faces afterwards it helps the botox to settle in.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 19/05/2021 14:40

I have it every 4 months.
Don't lie down within 4 hours of having it done.
Keep out of direct sunlight for a day or two.
Be prepared to love it!

Twinkie01 · 19/05/2021 14:47

She can subtly raise your eye brows with the Botox, tell her about the hooded eye thing bothering you as sometimes Botox can make it worse.

UKhun · 19/05/2021 22:19

I've been feeling a bit headachey and shivery today - apparently that's a thing! Anyone else get that?

osbertthesyrianhamster · 19/05/2021 22:21

I'd love to have it on my forehead.

jeaux90 · 19/05/2021 23:24

Just had Botox on my forehead yesterday for the first time. She said it takes a few days to have an effect. I'm going back in June for fillers which I'm probably more nervous about.

I've had it three times. The first time just the number 11s which were my real problem area, the second time I got a bit excited and had three areas (11s, crows feet and upper forehead lines) but I didn't like the effect of the crows feet one. I felt I looked a bit 'dead behind the eyes' as if my eyes didn't smile when my mouth smiled.

Last time I had the 11s and forehead and I preferred it.

I does take about ten days to see the full effect but only the first time (for me), the subsequent times I have seen an effect almost immediately.

I have hooded eyes and they haven't been improved by the Botox at all to be honest. In fact initially (when I had the forehead done) they looked much worse but this wore off after a couple of weeks.

I'm getting it done again next week and think I will always want the 11s done, it's made a massive difference to my face - I used to look quite cross and 'frowny' all the time but now my face matches my personality. It's trial and error thought so be prepared that it might not be a perfect result.

wink1970 · 20/05/2021 16:56

Didn't work for me I just had a headache for a fortnight. I couldn't go back for a top up as lockdown 1 happened the week after, and I haven't bothered since.

I am however, going to try Profhilo. If anyone has any experience, I'm all ears.....

Beachlovingirl · 20/05/2021 20:35

I just had my check up today and a bit more on one side that I have stronger frown muscles.

My practitioner makes me do all the facial movements before it, marks on my face with a white pencil and then goes ahead with the injections. The needle is so fine for Botox you don’t need to worry but it is still a needle in your face so, you know, strangely some people don’t actually realize that part!
After I’ve had it my practitioner says to really do all the expressions that cause the lines to work the Botox into the right area. So I on the way home I’m all frowning and smiling like a maniac!

When I see a photo of myself after having it and then one where I’ve let it lapse the difference is really quite apparent. I end up with a top half of my face lifted and my eyebrows just look better too. There is no frozen face look but you can have that if you want?

The main thing is not to be self conscious when the practitioner asks you what parts you don’t like and just be totally honest. The 2 week check up is great because if you need any more, you shouldn’t have to pay so although the sometimes inconvenient to fit in, it’s really worth it.

I have a line that is on the bridge of my nose and it’s really noticeable when I haven’t had Botox. After the Botox this is gone!

Fashio · 20/05/2021 20:35

Nothing. Really all this rubbing your face thing is a nonsense. It’s great

Fashio · 20/05/2021 20:36

And agree. Day ten is the day

Fashio · 20/05/2021 20:37

Why no exercise? This sounds vollocks

AnnieSnap · 21/05/2021 00:10

@Hattie71

I had botox because i had the same issues as you. it didn't go well. now i have a bulbous forehead and I've had to have surgery to get my top lip removed. the nhs wouldn't cover it and now im broke. natural beauty all the way girl boss.
Who did you get it done by? I have an appointment for it in a couple of weeks and I deliberately chose a cosmetic surgeon at my local private hospital. He is very experienced in cosmetic surgery for ‘vanity’, but his NHS work is facial reconstruction for post cancer patients and accident survivors. I figure he knows his way around the anatomy of the human face. I know there are practitioners out there with various credentials and sometimes, none at all!
MrsMaizel · 21/05/2021 01:26

A good doctor will ask you what you do not like about your face and he/she will offer suggestions .Botox does not kick in properly for about 10 days or so but there is sometimes an initial hint. I've never had pain or headaches and my doctor says all this not lying down etc is nonsense. I also have hooded eyes and the doc injects at forehead to simulate a brow lift which in turn opens your eyes up. It's a great procedure done well. For nasolabial folds you will need filler.

@ChiefInspectorParker

I am having a consultation soon. I’m hoping the practitioner will be able to give me an absolutely minimal amount in one of my 11 lines - has anyone had something so small done? One is much worse than the other, I don’t want to get rid of them, just soften a little.

I assume a good practitioner won’t try to persuade me to have other areas done.

Why would you want to just soften them ? I don't understand why you are having Botox then ?

Why would Botox give you a bulbous forehead and problem lips? You are surely talking about filler, no? Botox doesn't create volume

Profhilo is the bees knees for me. Some people see little effect, other like me see 5-6 years and all manner of damage evaporate. I absolutely love it. There is a period of about a month at the 2-3 week stage where I glow like a candle. After that it goes away a bit sadly but the ongoing collagen boost really helps.
