Botox first timer ... what to expect ?

headzupp · 18/05/2021 10:09

As the title says ... I've decided to try Botox. I'm a tired 46 year old with deep forehead wrinkles which I've had all my life .. inherited .. but deepening. Plenty of crows feet and thinning skin around my eyes , lined upper lips from smoking,nasolabial folds that are age appropriate etc.
Can I ask what will happen at the treatment . Do I decide or do they .. what the best treatment is?
I have hooded eyes so I'm a bit nervous about forehead Botox! I sound like a real princess don't I !!!
What to expect please? I'm excited but nervous. I look tired and old. I'd like to look like the stress has gone from my face. Any advice welcome too!
Thanks

Following as hoping to take the plunge myself, same kind of issues as @mistermagpie. Would anyone mind telling me roughly how much you pay, please?

FetchezLaVache · 21/05/2021 09:15

(I'm in North Yorks if that makes any difference!)

mistermagpie · 21/05/2021 09:16

I pay £195 for two areas I think. It was about £250 for three.

I reckon I'll want it about twice a year, I'm getting it done next week and last time was in December. It's fully worn off in the last few weeks.

mistermagpie · 21/05/2021 09:18

Sorry should have said, it's a dentist that does mine in Glasgow.

wink1970 · 21/05/2021 10:05

Thank you @honeybuns007 I'll let everyone know I get on, as I'm going to try Profhilo then if no joy I'll revisit botox and perhaps cheek fillers (though that makes me nervous)

UKhun · 21/05/2021 10:17

@FetchezLaVache

The clinic I went to has regular training days so I paid just £95 for three areas. The practitioner assured me at consultation that the trainees are completely supervised and safe doing it.

However on the day it turned out they'd overbooked so I was lucky enough to get the top guy doing me for the same training price!

Normal cost would have been £225. Thing is now I've had him I don't think I would go to anyone else next time!

But still waiting to see any effect...

absentpresence · 21/05/2021 10:39

I'm a practitioner myself. I always have an initial consultation with clients to establish what it is that's displeasing to them, and what their desired results are. Sometimes Botox may not be the most effective option, so I am always honest and tell them what treatments would be best to achieve their desired results.

There are so many incredible treatments on the market now; for ageing/poor quality skin I thoroughly recommend the skin boosters (Profhilo, Sunekos, Jalupro etc.), which can be used for dark circles, fine lines/wrinkles, skin laxity, and giving an overall tightened look. The boosters can also be used on the hands, decollete, stomach etc.

Another great treatment is the PRP (Vampire) facial - sounds terrifying but it really isn't - plasma is our body's liquid gold and does wonders for improving the skin. I've had some amazing results from this treatment.

Fillers are brilliant for adding volume - such as in the temple region, around the mouth, nasolabial folds. These areas can be so ageing and adding some filler to them makes an incredible difference.

@ChiefInspectorParker

I am having a consultation soon. I’m hoping the practitioner will be able to give me an absolutely minimal amount in one of my 11 lines - has anyone had something so small done? One is much worse than the other, I don’t want to get rid of them, just soften a little.

I assume a good practitioner won’t try to persuade me to have other areas done.

This is pretty much what I had the first time only in both 11 lines, I didn't want a drastic change and was a bit nervous about the frozen face look. The practitioner used a light touch and I was really happy with the result. I've had more since but you will absolutely be able to get just one area done.

I’ve just had profhilo as an alternative to Botox. Only had it on Tuesday so too early to see effects. However, I like the fact that it’s longer lasting and encourages collagen and elastin production. I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some rave about it and some say they had no effect. I’ve done lots of research and apparently the practitioner needs to inject at a certain depth for the right effects. So too deep and you’ll get no results. I wonder if this is why reviews are so mixed?

5128gap · 21/05/2021 12:47

Start with one area of your face. I'd suggest your 11s as very little can go wrong there, and see how you get on. If you like the result go back for another area.
If you have hooded eyes forehead botox can make them droopy. Doing your 11s will lift your eyes a bit.
Expect 5 tiny injections for 11s. They don't hurt but, well, its needles in your face so you feel it. But less painful than eyebrow plucking imo.
You will hear a tiny crunch as it goes in.
You might have a headache for a few hours after.
Don't rub the area and don't lie flat for about 6 hours after.
Good luck! I doubt you'll regret it.

MrsMaizel · 22/05/2021 01:32
@mistermagpie thank you.

@MrsMaizel because i am in my mid forties and I would look odd with no 11s at all. Also one line is quite pronounced and I don’t want it to look like a flat wrinkle. I am a very ‘less is more’ person when it comes to cosmetic stuff, but due to illness and stress in my 30s, my 11s are relatively bad and bother me, both because they make me look tired and because they remind me of difficult times. So I’d like to get them looking as naturally age-appropriate as I can.
I would look odd with no 11s at all

I really don't understand why you say this . Not everyone has them . I don't.

PandoraP · 22/05/2021 09:00

Is there really no risk to Botox? I am so worried about allergic reactions of some kind, but really fancy a bit of baby botox. The area which bothers me most is around my mouth, but I have also developed a wrinkle across my forehead which I want to get rid of.

UKhun · 22/05/2021 10:42

Pandora for your mouth fillers are best - Botox is really only forehead and eye area

PandoraP · 22/05/2021 11:04

@UKhun, I have heard that too, but I am too worried about fillers. Would it be cheek fillers? I once saw a woman with cheek fillers and one filler seemed to have collapsed so the apple of her cheek was nearly next to her mouth.

Beachlovingirl · 22/05/2021 11:21

@PandoraP cheek fillers act as a great lift for the lower half of the face but it you want to target a certain area around your mouth then filler can be placed there too. I’ve had my mouth-to-chin lines done (I don’t know the proper name but the line from the corner of my mouth to the bottom of my face) and it’s a great result.

PandoraP · 22/05/2021 11:43

@Beachlovingirl, would you say lines are all gone or just noticeable reduced? How long will the effect last and did you feel it was safe?

Beachlovingirl · 22/05/2021 12:08

@PandoraP I just had one syringe, half either side and I would honestly say they are gone but there is a slight shadow still, only near the corner of my mouth. I know I could have had more put in but I really didn’t want a very obvious result after all I am in my 40s so there are some results that look very unnatural and I didn’t want this. I am 100% happy with the results and this is the first time I’ve this. Felt very safe. This should last up to a year.

I also had filler in my chin - I have a weak chin so I don’t expect everyone has this - but the two things together have given me a lovely jaw/chin/under the mouth area.

Beachlovingirl · 22/05/2021 12:09

Actually she only used the 1 syringe for all of it including the chin, so less than half and half for the lines.

PandoraP · 22/05/2021 16:09

@Beachlovingirl, thank youSmile

UKhun · 23/05/2021 15:05

Really panicking a bit today, day 6 and my eyes are looking droopy! My 11s and middle of forehead are improving and look good but one eyebrow is higher than the other and I'm looking very hooded.

Can anyone reassure me this is normal?

Beachlovingirl · 23/05/2021 17:31

@UKhun I’ve only had 11s done and crows feet and didn’t have any eye drooping but then perhaps this is normal for forehead Botox? Sorry I don’t know. If you’re worried about the dropping I would reach out to your practitioner.

Beachlovingirl · 23/05/2021 17:32

Ps I had one brow higher than the other only when raising my brows and this was corrected at my 2 week check in.

Delatron · 23/05/2021 19:01

It needs to be corrected at your two week check. I had brow droop once with Botox. Eyes looked more hooded and I looked more tired. Great! It wasn’t that noticeable yet it was to me. I didn’t want any more Botox and waited for it to wear off. It’s a common problem with Botox unfortunately.

Elsabet · 23/05/2021 19:13

@UKhun I have been having Botox for about 4 years now. My last appointment was 13 April and I did have a bit of drooping at about 10 days where my eyelids felt like that were sitting on my eyelashes. This wore off in a few days/week and I now just look fresh faced. I have 3 areas done.
