Full coverage but not matte foundation for mature skin

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a new foundation as I feel my current one is a bit too matte now for my skin being mid 50s. I’ve used Double wear Estee Lauder for special occasions but day to day wear Max Factor facefinity compact. I loved Double Wear but it’s very matte and my skin is dry now. I was looking at Lancôme Teint Idole, anyone tried this ? Ideally I’m looking for something that’s touch proof as I hate it coming off on husband/clothes / phone etc I would like a satin finish or more natural finish, I don’t think I could cope with full on dewy finish if you know what I mean ! I need a fairly good coverage as I have some redness on cheeks and nose due to mild rosacea

I used to wear Double Wear but find it too heavy now. I use Erborian anti redness and CC creams. They give my rather blotchy combination skin enough coverage and are quite dewy. They do smaller tubes so you don't have to fully commit!

everydayiwritethebook · 13/05/2021 22:45

Not excessively dewy though!

TaraR2020 · 13/05/2021 22:49

Estee lauder do a lighter (as in, provides less coverage) version of the double wear, have you tried that?

Zigzag77 · 13/05/2021 22:49

I find foundation can be too dry-looking and cakey after a certain age. I now use tinted moisturiser and I spot concealer on any areas of redness (in my case cheeks and chin). The overall look is much nicer,
more natural and less ageing. For my TM I’ve used Laura Mercier for years. I recommend it, it’s lovely. I also like Erborian (I use the purple one) which has good coverage but is still natural-looking.

Zigzag77 · 13/05/2021 22:53

Sorry I should add - I had a sample of the Teint Idole and it’s not bad for a foundation. It does have the satin finish you are after, and decent coverage without being too thick. I used it sparingly and only in certain areas though, so may not have the experience of a full face to give you!

onedream · 13/05/2021 22:56

I'm nearly 40 and use nars tinted moisturiser which is ok but recently tried and actually bought a full size of Dior forever and I have to say that its great, light, not drying my skin out and good medium coverage with a option to add on if you want more. Would highly recommend, pricey but worth it.

Readyorknot · 14/05/2021 07:51

I hate foundations that transfer onto everything! A good coverage, satin finish foundation has been on my want list for so long now. Make Up Forever hD liquid is satin finish but not enough coverage. Nars radiant long wear has great coverage, finish and colour for me but transfers so badly; ditto Giorgio Armani power fabric. Ysl all hours and the Lancome Teint idole are great but oxidise to orange and so that totally puts me off. ELDW has baaad flashback and ages me 10 years - light version is just as drying. The closest Ive got is a mixing Urban Decay all nighter (which is quite heavy and drying but sticks like glue) and Too Faced Born With it (which is lovely, great imcoverage and finish but doesnt last on me). I need a chemist friend who can make this foundation!

Number 7 hydraluminous.

Have you tried a setting spray? I use one more often now because of mask wearing.

Girlintheframe · 14/05/2021 09:30

I like the BB long lasting foundation. Looks like skin rather than make up

Ilovelove · 14/05/2021 09:57

I recommend Trinny London Make-up.

I use BFF spf 30 cream - I found the match 2 me service online accurate.
Then a light dusting of powder.

It is the freshest I have looked for years.

languising · 14/05/2021 09:59

Chanel vitalumiere (the original or maybe even the aqua) then set with a tiny amount of loose powder.

Google Lisa Eldridge (proper make up artist, she does Kate Winslet, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss etc) on YouTube.

You just can't beat Chanel foundations

Readyorknot · 14/05/2021 10:24

Chanel vitalumiere doesn't last - its very dewy and disappears over the day.

I've never tried the Boots stuff but it doesnt sound full coverage from the reviews

Lotsofthings · 14/05/2021 11:13

IT cosmetics CC cream. Dot on lightly with fingers and blend in with their double ended foundation brush. Wouldn’t use anything else now.

Snally82 · 14/05/2021 15:57

Take a look at Pampered Wolfs channel on YouTube :)

I'm same age-range as you & use Teint Idole Ultra Wear. This is my go-to foundation because the colour (02), coverage & finish is just right for my skin. I have cool pinky undertones & most foundations are too yellow for me. I have used Double Wear, but it's too matte, & also tried a sample of the new EL Futurist one, but that felt like a mask & was too glowy. Teint Idole is too full coverage for warmer, sunny days though & I'm using No 7 Essentially Natural in Cool Ivory. This has a very nice lighter coverage but enough to even out my skin tone.
I would definitely go to John Lewis/Boots etc to get samples before buying the full product.

Anjelika · 14/05/2021 21:03

I'm the same age as you OP and have been looking for the same holy grail as you for a few years now.

I like the EL Futurist Hydra Rescue one - it covers the redness in my cheeks really well but is not ageing around the eyes like Double Wear.

I'm not keen on the No 7 one - Hydraluminous. It looks scaley on me around the eyes and streaky on the cheeks.

Also worth trying Dior Forever. Again it covers well but feels light on the skin and is great around the eyes.

I got 2 samples of the Fenty long lasting/full coverage ones from
Ebay and much much much preferred the matte one to the glowy one. The glowy one just looked scaley again on me. I will def buy the matte one though next time I'm somewhere that sells it.

In truth I only get the right finish by mixing foundations together. I'm currently mixing the EL or CD one with the Phoera foundation concealer which is only £5.99 on Amazon. It gives the other foundations slightly more cover without looking too mask like.

Last summer I used nothing but the EL Futurist one so hoping when we get better weather that will happen again but for now I'll carry on mixing.

It lasts on me.

The vitalumiere aqua is more long lasting on certain skin types

jalopy · 15/05/2021 21:45

Zoeva foundation is dewy but covers well. I think Pampered wolf recommended that one and it's very good indeed.

Flossie44 · 15/05/2021 21:49

I use Clinique ‘even better refresh’ foundation. It feels so silky on the skin and looks glowing without looking greasy.

I’m 47 and have dry skin.

Iorderedyouapancake · 15/05/2021 22:23

The Bobbi Brown serum foundation is good for more mature skin and gives a nice “glowy” finish- not drying or matte at all. It’s one of the few foundations I’ve repurchased. They’re usually pretty good at giving generous samples to try if you can make it to a shop that stocks it.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 15/05/2021 22:48

I've just swapped from EL to the ordinary serum foundation. It's got a lovely dewy finish

citygirl1961 · 16/05/2021 00:57

@pinkorangered. I use No7 essentially natural in cool ivory too. Do you find it OK in the summer months and not too pale?

messydoodah1 · 16/05/2021 09:54

I used Lancome teint idole for a few years and it looks nice on my skin but only lasts for a few hours before looking patchy (I have dry skin). Ex1 (from boots I think) is full coverage and sets nicely and lasts all day for me. (Powder on top of foundation for me does not look nice at all!). Lancome do little sample tubes in every shade so you can try before you buy (but I prefer ex1).

CrazyBatLady66 · 26/05/2021 12:22

Hi everyone thank you very much for your answers it’s really helpful. I’ve not tried EL lighter version of DW, I can’t remember what it’s called. I did try Chanel forever after friend recommended it and I also had sample of primer too but it sunk into my pores. Tried it a couple of times with and without primer. I was gutted as I had been looking at this for ages and was so excited about getting sample. I had tried Max Factor serum liquid foundation facefinity too as I usually use their facefinity compact for every day but this is too matte now. Their liquid facefinity sunk into pores and looked awful. Tried with primer , without primer , waiting longer for moisturiser to sink in etc. I’ve not heard of Erborian is this a UK brand ? I hear what some of you ladies are saying about tinted moisturiser but I just don’t think that would be enough for my skin. I don’t sunbathe or fake tan so I just don’t think it would be enough coverage. I used to use Boots No 7 lasting finish compact but I think it didn’t last that long on me and I changed to Max Factor. I may have another look but they have changed all colours now, their Blonde shade used to be perfect on me cool undertones fair but not palest maybe fair to medium Caucasian skin. Haven’t been into store for ages due to Covid my local store very small. Almost impossible to shop online for foundation.

Have you tried mixing your foundation with some moisturiser? I have very dry skin and actually mix foundation with a face oil and love the result.
