Ugg boots?? Should I invest in a pair?

OK girls - need some fashion advice. Don't want to end up as mutton dressed as lamb so here's the deal. I have "this" which is fab for breastfeeding in (better than the usual stuff you normally see at H&M etc.) and usually wear it with jeans and ballet pumps but it is getting a bit cold for my tootsies and I sprained my ankle the other day so can't fit into my normal boots. (an excuse really!)Everybody seems to be wearing fake UGGS so I thought I would give it a go. Went to House of Fraser today and real UGGS (Tall Black version) are £180. Couple of questions 1. Are they past it? 2. Am I too old at 39?
Help - I feel the urge to splurge and bury the cost in the food shopping bills and say they are fakes???????

NO!

They're for twenty-year-old yah girls at St. Andrew's to wear with denim miniskirts and tights and large paisley scarves.

Sparkletastic · 15/11/2007 21:51

I love mine and have been wearing them for years so they are durable BUT mine were a gift (I'd never waste my dosh on 'em) and I fully accept that they are in no way 'on trend'. For the latter, go for those nice Gap biker boots or some knee-high military / buckle jobs...

paddingtonbear1 · 15/11/2007 21:51

I'm the same age as you and I still wear them.Either you love or hate them I find!
I have a few pairs, all 'fake'- the last pair I got from M&S, a lovely dark brown. You can get 'real' uggs on the net for less than £100, try hartings.co.nz. Or for decent fakes, try snugaustralia.com.au.

southeastastra · 15/11/2007 21:52

they look so bad. just get some nice leather boots

paddingtonbear1 · 15/11/2007 21:53

actually I saw a pair of boots I really liked at river island, biker style but with a 'furry' top - sounds yuk but they looked ok. well they did in the online photo anyway...

MrsBadger · 15/11/2007 21:53

don't do it

expat's analysis is correct

buy a pair of £20 fakes if you feel you must and bin them in the spring

MrsBadger · 15/11/2007 21:54

can strongly recommend tjhese

controlfreaky2 · 15/11/2007 21:55

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

biglips · 15/11/2007 21:55

these look nice Uggs boots can make your legs bigger and they are horrible too

PaperChain · 15/11/2007 21:57

I like them but wouldnt dream of spending so much on a pair of shoes!!!!

bigbadmom · 15/11/2007 22:00

YES! I bought a pair for £105 (!) after deliberating long and hard on the matter. Felt like such a fashion victim when I dragged the huge box home with me on the bus. Nothing is cosier in the mornings with a dressing gown (confessions of a frumpy mum come flooding out here!). They make winter mornings a whole lot easier. Just be very strict with yourself about not wearing them out with jeans / skirts and stuff unless you really NEED a cosy foot-hug moment...I only wear them on my seriously hormonal chocolate craving days, they're like stepping into a warm towel when I put my feet in them! How poetic...

PaperChain · 15/11/2007 22:02

oh that sounds lovely - but the price??

bigbadmom · 15/11/2007 22:13

Yes, they cost a bomb. eBay is good for second-hand never been worn ones though. I would argue that colour is basically irrelevant, just bid for any you see coming up in your size.

moondog · 15/11/2007 22:16

Christ no.They are minging.

bigbadmom · 15/11/2007 22:21

Yes, they do make me look like a yeti, but my god they're comfortable.

bigbadmom · 15/11/2007 22:22

maggieb52 seems to have dissapeared off this thread, having sparked such controversy!

paolosgirl · 15/11/2007 22:23

NO NO NO - unless you're going for the yah look as described by expat, or the chavvy footballer's wife look, the fur lined Ugg boot is not a good look. Sorry.

Maggieb52 · 15/11/2007 22:28

just catching up now. Baby woke up. I think they may be just a little too expensive for now. What about the age thing??

OP posts:
Maggieb52 · 15/11/2007 22:35

oops posted too early. Does it matter about age and that look. would you wear the biker boots with a skirt too? And what about leggings with "this top" - are they out of the question? My bum is not 18 anymore so yes "it looks big in anything" Not to mention pertness!!

OP posts:
PaperChain · 15/11/2007 22:35

I think it is more of a figure thing rahter than an agr thing...

paolosgirl · 15/11/2007 22:37

I LOVE the top - wish I'd known about it when I was breastfeeding - but then at 38 I'm MUCH younger than you, so can get away with a lot more

Kind of think Ugg's are for the younger things

expatinscotland · 15/11/2007 22:40

yes, young things with stick thin, long legs.

Maggieb52 · 15/11/2007 22:42

not actually 39 'til Apr1l 08! What about you. Am I still older. Off to make hot choc but take your point about the young ones. Still think I'm one of them. Anyone else got grey hair appearing in their eyebrows?

OP posts:
Maggieb52 · 15/11/2007 22:44

and i have short fat legs so find it hard to fit into all high street boots. Clarks doing an extra wide leg boot

OP posts:
paolosgirl · 15/11/2007 22:45

Feck - no, you're younger! I'm 39 in March 08

Yep - got a few grey eyebrows, and have some bristles which appear in my chin (and are swiftly removed, I hasten to add). It's not FAIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
