Shoes for Dog Walking - stylish, cool haha!

ok, i'm going through a bit of a mid-life crisis. I always look a scruff.

My dog walking shoes are 18 years old and I need new ones.

We mainly do off road walking (country fields/forest etc) and wear wellies in the winter.

What are the cool young things wearing?

I'm not young, but I am very into fashion and I live in an area where everyone is stylish, even when walking their dogs.

I wear trainers in Spring/Summer and Wellies in Winter. This is what I have seen other women wear:

Spring/Summer

  1. Runners, usually black, Nike or New Balance with black or patterned navy designer leggings
  1. White leather trainers (Adidas Stan Smith - only on DRY days) - I we are these to the park and if they get muddy I use anti bacterial wipes on them) - these can be worn with dresses and skirts too
  1. Wellies if it rains
  1. Hiking boots with leggings if raining

In colder weather, people wear Dubarry Water boots (very cool) with skinny jeans or leggings and a parka - these women look like Helena Christiansen and are very, very, cool!!!! (They are not me Envy)

or hiking boots or flat ankle boots like Timberland - always with socks rolled down and tucked in

I hope this helps you.

I have been meaning to ask this question as well. We have moved to a more rural area recently and are doing 1-2 hour walks every weekend. With the cold wet weather I have been wearing Dubarry Galway boots but want a more summery alternative that I can potentially wear with shorts so will be following with interest.

Depends on your budget, but I’d probably get something from Penelope Chilvers. Or Fairfax & Favor.

Karcheer · 12/05/2021 13:22

There isnt really a budget, particularly if im keeping them for 18 years cpw will be low regardless.

I'm not stylish but I absolutely love my evercreature wellies. Comfy. Had loads of action and still look great. Can get funky designs.

Otherwise I'm following for walking sandal recommendations

allfurcoatnoknickers · 12/05/2021 13:28

I've got some shearling linked ankle boots from Ugg. They're not "Uggs" though IYSWIM. Rather normal looking leather boots lined with shearling. I use those when it's not muddy/I'm doing a walk around town in the winter. If it's muddy I have a short pair of gray Hunter wellies.

In the summer I wear Birkenstocks or my trainers (Reebok High tops or Superga).

I'm 34 and live in a very fashionable area.

Nearlyadoctor · 12/05/2021 13:38

Fairfax and Favor Boudicca boots, or DuBarry Clare/ Galway boots if very wet.

memost · 12/05/2021 13:39

I wear Blundstone Boots, Grenson Nanettes - pain to put on though, trainers went dry and when it's wet and cold Aigle Parcours - don't know what's cool but I like to be dressed well enough to slip into the pub for a pint if the need takes me.

Skyla2005 · 12/05/2021 13:49

I always wear converse shoes or boots for dog walking. They really are comfy and they go in the washing machine after muddier days. I wear wellies in winter but converse the rest of the time

QueenOfToast · 12/05/2021 14:02

Great idea for a thread - I love stylish dog walking gear.

Also, thank you to @Nearlyadoctor for facilitating my boot addiction by introducing me to the Boudicca boots. DPD will be delivering my black pair tomorrow. My only hope now is that they don't fit and/or look terrible so that I can send them back.

Ninkanink · 12/05/2021 14:06

I’m getting the Boudicca boots as one of my A/W purchases this year. Can not wait!

Karcheer · 12/05/2021 14:15

So something like Nike Lahar are a no then...

I should really just be looking for black trainers?

I will probably wear flip flops in proper summer...

@QueenOfToast - You will love them, although be warned Fairfax and Favor is a bit too addictive Wink

Are the Boudicca boots sheepskin lined?
Won't they be too hot for now?

@QueenOfToast - you will love them, I have the Oak and would like the mahogany in the future.

Parkmama · 12/05/2021 14:39

In winter I wear ankle wellies which I find are a bit more stylish than full length wellies, with a Chelsea Boot style. Mine are black but you can get them in all colours / pattens depending on what you like. Joules, Barbour, Mountain Warehouse, Regatta, NEXT, M&S, Cotton Traders are all worth exploring. I use a decent insole in mine to support my arches to ensure I am supported on long walks. In summer when it's dry I just wear comfortable trainers like New Balance, NIKE, ASICS etc. I don't find converse or superga trainers very comfortable for lengthy dog walks

@Karcheer Not sure whether the Boudicca boots will be too hot for spring/summer wearing. I'll let you know when mine arrive tomorrow. I do like to be warm so the sheepskin lining attracted me rather than put me off! The website shows gorgeous people wearing them with little, floaty summer skirts and bare legs so maybe they'll be good all year round.

I don't look particularly stylish on my dog walks, but I aspire to achieve the effortless elegance that I see in other people. I blame my lack of style on my coat rather than my footwear so I should probably have invested cash in that area instead of new boots. I definitely need to up my coat game for next winter.

QueenOfToast · 13/05/2021 09:13

Boudicca boots update...

They look really good and have a comfortable insole so would be cushioning for longer walks. The sheepskin lining is just on the ankle part, not in the footbed so they wouldn't be too hot in warmer weather.

However, I think I'm probably going to send them back because I can feel that they will rub the back of my heels and will require some wearing in. I can tell that they'd feel fab once they're worn in, but they're so expensive, I need them to feel comfortable straight away.

@Nearlyadoctor Did you have to wear your Boudiccas in?
