Very rich anti-aging creams?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 08/05/2021 14:23

I've noticed my skin has been feeling tighter and dryer than normal. Perimenopause I'm assuming? I recently switched from the moisturising 'rich' formula that I've been using for a few years to one of their anti-aging formulas that has got great reviews. I thought it was great for the first week or so, but now minutes after I put it on my skin has absorbed it all and doesn't feel particularly moisturised. I got a sample of the Sheseido Vital Perfection Uplift and Firming cream in Hello Fashion yesterday so tried it out this morning and the same thing - it sinks in, but my skin doesn't feel very moisturised half an hour after applying. My makeup is to show fine lines under my eyes because its dryer there now.

I've always had very dry skin, so think I need something super moisturising. Can anyone recommend an extremely moisturising anti-aging face cream? Potentially something that most people would find too greasy? Because that's how dry my skin is.

I bought the Aldi caviar cream after seeing it recommended on here but had to give it to my mum as it was waaaaay too rich. You could try that?

BlackSwan · 08/05/2021 14:32

Augustinius Bader The Rich Cream is great. Pricey but v moisturising.

Cherry321 · 08/05/2021 14:35

L’occitane Shea is really nice (not the light version)

LordEmsworth · 08/05/2021 14:35

Trilogy Age-Proof Replenishing Night Cream. I put that on then leave for about half an hour and put on face oil. It's lovely...

DeRigueurMortis · 08/05/2021 14:41

M&S ultimate sleep cream is lovely.

I've dry skin and use it both day and night.

Much better than many more expensive creams I've tried.

Serpenta · 08/05/2021 14:41

Weleda Skin Food Light. I find it more moisturising than the original formulation as it's a rich lotion rather than the sticky Vaseline like texture of the non-light version.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 08/05/2021 14:42

Thanks all. I will take a look at those. Forgot to mention ideally I'd like to keep it under the £60 mark.

Does anyone know if I can get samples of these somewhere? I've just spent £185 on the serum, face cream and eye cream on the one I mentioned in my first post, so can't afford much at the moment. I will probably layer for a while. I've even used coconut oil on my face it's so dry 🤦🏼‍♀️ May layer that on top in the evenings too lol

As a night cream I don't think you can beat Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask.

Serpenta · 08/05/2021 14:44

Your skin might be dehydrated rather than just dry so try the cheapo Simply Pure hydrating serum from Superdrug too.

I found coconut oil made my skin feel drier.

UncomfortableSilence · 08/05/2021 14:45

My skin has felt like that too lately. I tried the Aldi caviar cream and it is bloody brilliant, I've spent loads on skincare in the past and this is the only thing that I've ever noticed a visible difference.

I use the day and night one now and it's cheap so worth a try.

I drink 3L of water a day 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've not used the coconut oil on my face for a year maybe. Just fell out of the routine. I'll keep that in mind though.

Ok, might try and stop off at an Aldi today if it's convenient. I'll give that a try and later it over what I've got already and then maybe give another more expensive brand a try once I'm done why I've got.

Sounds like a few people have found that works.

Look to serums to layer under for antiageing - then a thick cream on top.
Hado Labo Premium Gold serum is phenomonal, then a vit C serum over the top, then SPF then a thick layer of cream. Weleda Skin Food is fantastic.
If still dry, I put a layer of avocado oil over the top of all that - seals it all in.

Then look to your night time routine for your real heavy hitters - for me that's lactic acid and retinol.

Thanks. I had been using the ordinary Buffet every day and then their .5 retinol (I have the 1 retinol as well but was trying to use the .5 up first. Then sometimes would use Rose hip oil and a few others.

Now I'm using a fairly expensive (£70) bottle of serum along with the same eye cream and face cream in the range.

Wasn't sure how many products was too many and if they would interact with each other. That being said my skin does feel very nice and smooth, but just dry

Hada Labo's wrinkle filler is amazing, it's a similar consistency to Charlotte Tilbury's night cream but way way cheaper. You can wear it as a day or night cream and it's really helped my dry patches. It's on offer in superdrug just now and is cheap enough that I bought a full set in one go.

Nuxe make a balm which I use under an oil if my skin feels dry & tight.

NeedATan · 08/05/2021 15:36

How about using an oil or butter on top of what you are already using, in order to stop moisture from escaping? Like jojoba oil? I use extremely rich oils and butters but for most people they'd be too much.

SarahBellam · 08/05/2021 15:51

It doesn’t have any anti ageing ingredients in it but a dark blue rum of Nivea is hands down the most moisturising cream out there.

SarahBellam · 08/05/2021 15:51

Tub - not rum. Don’t put rum on your face.

I do have one or two oils from The Ordinary, but never knew when to apply them. What order should I be layering products in?

I feel similar and have tried lots of options (including a few mentioned on this thread). I always come back to Neal's Yard rose beauty balm though. It's magic.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/05/2021 16:00

My skin is like yours. My favourite is Neal's Yard Frankincense Intense, both the face cream and the eye cream. I find the Aldi Lacuna Caviar Night Cream to be very similar to the Neal's Yard (not the Caviar Day Cream which I didn't like as much, I use the Night Cream in the daytime because I'm a bit of a rebel). I've never found anything as good as the Neal's Yard Frankincense Intense Eye Cream though, so I still pay the higher price for that.

Ponks · 08/05/2021 16:18

I sometimes mix a couple of drops of face oil in with my moisturiser rather than putting oil on top, which I've always found seems to make the cream underneath pill.

mrssmiling · 08/05/2021 16:51

It’s definitely worth giving the Aldi range a try - I’ve had good results with the Caviar day and night creams.
I also use Liz Earle Superskin serums - started using this serum recently, in addition to the day serum, and see a real difference.
www.johnlewis.com/liz-earle-superskin-concentrate-for-night-moisturiser-28ml/p1955729
It’s a night serum, but I sometimes just massage in a few drops if my skin feels dry, and I’m not wearing makeup - it smells wonderful. Neal’s Yard Frankincense cream is also very effective for mature, dry skin - started using it a few years ago when it scored really highly in Beauty Bible reviews.
This Prickly Pear seed oil is also good for dry skin - apparently one of Nigella’s favourites. victoriahealth.com/100-pure-prickly-pear-seed-oil/

AuntMasha · 08/05/2021 16:58

Oh I second the prickly pear oil, it’s wonderfully smoothing and absorbs easily. Everyone’s skin is unique to them, but for me Neostrata Dermal Replenishment and Neostrata Neck Cream work well, plus I always use a Vitamin C serum daytime, and Paula’s Choice Retinol at night. A Vitamin C serum is a must, I think.
