If you have what did you try and what did you think of it?

Well, I for one think the products are lovely. Yes it's expensive, yes it's an MLM but nothing else. I have ever used has cleared up my acne the way tropic has.

The super greens syrum in particular has been amazing for my old scars. And the soaps don't irritate my skin. Also, love the Handwash and lotion and am just trying the Nourishing hair cleanser and conditioner which is calming my super itchy scalp.

So the fact I feel less like and itchy spotty dry mess is a win for me!

SomethingAboutNothing · 08/05/2021 15:52

Although yes it is an MLM, from what I can tell it is one of the better ones, far less pressure to recruit people into it and not the pressure to buy loads of products yourself each month. The products I have tried have been ok, nothing spectacular, I always think its a bit overpriced.

Lemming20 · 08/05/2021 17:18

@Workinghardeveryday that is how it starts Hmm she will lose all her friends who gradually block her for her annoying ‘hun’ activity and trying to get them to purchase things they don’t need. The sales dry up and recruiting is the only way to go.

There are no ‘better’ MLMs. Best of luck to your family member OP - I hope she sees the light and doesn’t end up with a garage full of stock she can’t shift.

Turkishangora · 08/05/2021 17:24

I found the products ok but nothing special. I'm looking for more smoothness and radiance on my 46 year old menopausal skin and although they smelt and felt nice they were nothing special. A friend has started doing it so will buy a facemask from her to be supportive. I can't stand MLMs though, lost a friend over another skincare brand one. Far worse and pushier re the hard sell than tropic I have to say...

Workinghardeveryday · 08/05/2021 20:08

@Lemming20 thanks, I will warn her again!

Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole. Bloody MLMs

Roamingaround · 08/05/2021 20:29

@Workinghardeveryday, is she an Ambassador? If so, I have a close friend started this and they get 25%, not 75% so would suggest she double-checks her figures there. If they exceed a certain amount of sales in a month, then the 25% will increase for that month but up to more like 30%. My friend isn’t put under pressure to make sales but does well from it. They need to purchase their own kits but these are well discounted.

As with all MLM products, they are not that bad, but they are overpriced and hyped up and you can get similar non MLM products at a cheaper price.

There are no “better” MLMs. Some tend to attract a better off sign up who can generally take the losses, afford to be their own best customer, has a partner who can financially prop up the MLM activities, and this May cover it up better but this does not make it a better MLM or “social selling company” (or whatever cover Tropic is using) and I see the same proportion of Tropic sign ups losing money as the other MLMs.
YouokHun · 08/05/2021 23:10

This is always worth a watch www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p076n2hg

Workinghardeveryday · 08/05/2021 23:25

@Roamingaround yes, she is going to be one. But she can’t see how she can loose out, she earns from whatever she sells

The other thing to keep in mind for your friend @Workinghardeveryday is that there is often an element of beginners luck in MLM. Most people don’t have a circle big enough to create as many ongoing sales as they need to make any real sustainable money but in the early days friends and family will want to support her and may buy quite a lot in the early days which can give a false sense of security. But who needs regular top ups of high priced skincare? What happens when those people don’t want the product as regularly as she’s going to need to sell it? If she’s after a bit of pin money then fine but people can’t make a sustainable viable wage from Tropic. The only way to really make money is to “share the opportunity”, “build a team”, “become a manager” etc etc and earn of the downlines’ endeavours. But someone is losing money in those teams and ultimately it is an exploitative way of doing business.

OP, Elle Beau`s Anti MLM blog and her posts about her experience with being an MLM hun are well worth a read, at times hilarious and also very sad. Chapter one about getting reeled into being a hun is here:

ellebeaublog.com/2017/02/01/chapter-1-getting-reeled-in/

I wouldn`t touch Tropic, or any other MLM with a ten foot pole.

This is what my friend does.
She doesn’t recruit, she just asks if anybody wants anything then places the order and keeps 25%. She has a good job and has no intention of leaving it
There are no cringey FB posts or anything like that .
I am certainly anti mlm in general and have blocked people on SM for ring a pain with it but as long as I can order stuff I like without any hassle I will continue to buy from her.

buckleten · 09/05/2021 10:04

I just buy it directly from the website, I really like some of their products, in particular the face smooth, and the tamanu balm, and the body scrub. I haven't tried their make up. The face smooth is my favourite all time beauty product!

Atalantea · 09/05/2021 10:09

@greengrey

Yes it's an MLM but it's one with good products. All vegan too. Love it. Don't be put off it you like it.
No, do be put off because it's an mlm.

MLMs are predatory and nearly everyone will loose money and friends.

NavigatingAdolescence · 09/05/2021 10:16

[quote FeatheredHope]As others have said, i refuse to support any business that works as an MLM. They are deeply exploitative and prey on vulnerable people (particularly women).

Here’s the Tropic specific report.

www.talentedladiesclub.com/articles/how-much-can-you-earn-with-mlm-tropic-skincare/

They DO say it is a better approach. On this basis I’ve ordered twice online naming my beauty therapist who turned to selling this whilst unable to work during lockdown. I’m happy with the products and happy to be able to support her during such a difficult time.

Im sure someone on Mumsnet suggested signing up as an ambassador just for the discount given there is zero pressure to sell or recruit.

Anyone tried the Tropic skincare range?
Gingefringe · 09/05/2021 11:47

I've used lots of their products and just get it from their website - I didnt even realise they were an MLM, The cleanser, oils and soap pebbles are amazing.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 09/05/2021 11:51

Isn’t it something to do with Alan Sugar?

NavigatingAdolescence · 09/05/2021 11:57

Yes.
BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 09/05/2021 12:19

Sorry if I’ve repeated something already said on the thread, I didn’t see it mentioned.

NavigatingAdolescence · 09/05/2021 12:20

I don’t think you did.

Russell19 · 09/05/2021 12:34

I use the ABC skincare and I love it! I also bought a make up palette and I really like it. The lipstick doesn't last long but I love a lip gloss and the lip fudge is really nice if you like a gloss texture.
