What are we doing about clothes? I have nothing that fits Confused from what I wore before just tracksuits and leggings. But also I don't really want to spend on bigger sizes. Just wondered what everyone else facing this issue is doing?

Oh God it's depressing isn't it. I have given in and bought a couple of new pairs of jeans (although feeling guilty about cheap fashion) and am wearing those on rotation long with a couple of loose dresses.
On a more proactive note I am back to doing 5:2 and it's beginning to make a difference Smile

SatsumaFan · 21/04/2021 19:49

Bought a couple of pairs of bigger jeans.

Am now doing intermittent fasting using the free Fastic app (just started doing 14:10 but aiming to do 16:8 most days) + sticking to max 1500 cals using My Fitness Pal + 10k steps a day.

Having a day or evening off on the weekends when their are celebrations.

But yeah, sod's law as soon as you buy some nice bigger clothes you'll lose weight, right?! (I put on almost a stone).

NormanSicily · 21/04/2021 19:52

I've gained exactly half a stone since the start of the first lockdown. It's crept up very gradually. I've some more forgiving clothes that I'm sticking to at the moment, but have started (this week) cutting back to shift those pounds. But it's hard! I seem to be hard-wired into 'panic life is crap' mode at the moment and my response is to eat shite! I'm just thankful that I work from home so don't have any office wear to squeeze into or replace!

PollyThePony · 21/04/2021 19:58

I definitely get the guilt at having to buy new stuff. I'm doing a zero buy three months, starting this week, which I'm hoping to continue for a year or more.

BUT, would you feel guilty, if you were needing smaller clothes, because you lost weight? Or would you go out and buy a tonne of new clothes, gleefully? If it's the latter, then the guilt has less to do with clothes and more to do with weight gain, which you really don't need to feel guilty about imo.

Aaaaaanyway, mini rant over. I'd buy a few bits cheaply from a charity shop, with the intention of then donating them again if and when you lose weight.

MaverickDanger · 21/04/2021 20:00

I’m still carrying nearly 2 stone of baby weight that isn’t shifting, so I’ve ordered a couple of pairs of shorts from H&M and a playsuit from New Look.

My main issue is my boobs being 6 times bigger than normal so tops are a big issue at the moment.

I’m half tempted to just chuck out most of my clothes and start again.

Camdenish · 21/04/2021 20:26

I’m utterly depressed about the weight but had to buy some new clothes to go back to work in. I’m sad as I loved my old clothes and also because I seem unable to lose weight now. It’s only half a stone or so but it’s not shifting.

supercee · 21/04/2021 20:26

It's so depressing. I gained a stone and I needed to lose half a stone before that. I'm small so every bit shows. My clothes don't fit but I don't want to buy bigger as just need to knuckle down and lose it. Damn this good weather, just makes me want to drink!

I'm currently relying on elasticated trousers and other tops which are on the tight side but I'm hoping that my weight will start to drop so that that I can start fitting into more.

supercee · 21/04/2021 20:28

And don't get me started on my bras (or lack of ones that fit)!

Hopeishere52 · 21/04/2021 20:35

I’m bursting out the seems of my clothes, and work from home is ending....I have been trying things on, desperate to find something suitable to wear for work. I have started following the NHS 12 week plan..which is calorie counting and advice and I feel quite positive about it. I refuse to buy any new clothes until I’ve lost some weight, but even then I have some nice clothes packed away waiting for me to fit back in them!

JofraArchersFastestBall · 21/04/2021 20:42

I've put on half a stone - not the end of the world, but I'm struggling to lose it (I'm 35 and have two small children, I think my metabolism has changed and my energy levels are low!)

I've been wearing my too tight jeans as a sort of reminder not to snack.. but it's not working and I'm uncomfortable. I either need to lose the weight or buy some new clothes, but I'm not doing either yet for some reason.

CattingTime · 21/04/2021 20:45

Even my leggings are bursting at the seams now, getting holes in the crotch from my thighs rubbing together.

Luckily I generally wear loose hippie tent like tunics and kaftans on top so I can keep the skin covered.

I invested in a couple of roomy flowy free people tops that will have to see me through spring!

LizzieSiddal · 21/04/2021 20:53

I’ve put on a stone, which I’m so upset about. Before Covid I swam three times a week and did a lot of walking and Pilates. All my muscle has turned to flab and I feel so unfit.

Clothes wise I’m not buying anything new, I’m going to try to lose the weight and hope I can fit into my summer clothes.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 21/04/2021 21:03

I have put on a stone since march 2020, not helped by recent surgery following which I'm still not signed off to exercise. A stone doesnt sound that bad, but I was already 1.5 stone over. I have bought a capsule Covid wardrobe of two dresses and two pairs of loose trousers. It's worth the small outlay (everything New look/h&m) to be comfortable IMO.

Littlemiss74 · 21/04/2021 21:08

Following as in same boat. Have to start returning to office & nothing fits me. Need to shift half a stone but am feeling unmotivated.

Camdenish · 21/04/2021 21:13

My half a stone covid weight gain was on top of a quarter of a stone general weight gain. Does weight gain come in quarters? I’m trying to lose it by not snacking but it’s not working.

daisiesinmay · 21/04/2021 21:29

Thanks and hello to all in the same boat.

BUT, would you feel guilty, if you were needing smaller clothes, because you lost weight? Or would you go out and buy a tonne of new clothes, gleefully?

I would definitely buy new stuff, but with the hope that I'd be sticking at the new weight, when now I don't want to stick as I am.

supercee bras definitely as well. They are digging in.

I think the only answer is to try to lose weight maybe give myself a couple of months. But I might get one new pair of jeans or something that's not too expensive like pp have said. Maybe a new top or something. It is quite depressing not being able to fit into anything which doesn't involve elastic

Palavah · 21/04/2021 21:33

Every clothes shop I've looked at appears to have quite a lot of colourful tents in stock so I'm taking advantage of that

Miseryisabutterfly · 21/04/2021 22:05

It’s so depressing. I’ve had to buy a couple of new things... my old jeans don’t fit me anymore 😢 I’ve chosen styles that will look good oversized (jumpers/shirts/mom jeans that can be worn with a belt) though, so I’m not wasting money!

Miseryisabutterfly · 21/04/2021 22:13

I should add op, that I had some jeans arrive in the post today. Thankfully they fit and I instantly felt so much better about myself when I looked in the mirror. I have been wearing tracksuit bottoms which are soul destroying when worn out of necessity!

SatsumaFan · 21/04/2021 22:21

Tesco do some nice lift and shape type ones for £22 (skinny fit). Bought some size 16 the other week and they fit lovely.

PollyThePony · 21/04/2021 22:24

I would definitely buy new stuff, but with the hope that I'd be sticking at the new weight, when now I don't want to stick as I am.

I get that! But, I think it's probably worth investing a small amount in your new shape, for your own sanity / self. The thing is, if you change size either way, chances are it won't be 100% permanent. So a significant change in size, (where you no longer fit into clothes), is one of the occasions when you sort of have to buy some things. Unless you live in very loose clothing anyway.

As I said, I'd get a few bits secondhand and donate back if you lose weight.

PollyThePony · 21/04/2021 22:24

Self worth*

Roseyleaf · 21/04/2021 22:44

I've managed to find some of my favourite items in a size up on ebay.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 21/04/2021 22:49

I just cried. New posting starts on Friday Ordered uniform. Trousers in a 24 - 2 sizes up as I thought that would allow for a year sat in my arse. 2 inch gap between button and hole Sad Very unforgiving polyester cotton. My normal non uniform trousers are a 20 and fit fine.

Going to have to wear normal trousers to work and Ho through the caff of getting them returned and re-ordered.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 21/04/2021 22:49
