What are we doing about clothes? I have nothing that fits Confused from what I wore before just tracksuits and leggings. But also I don't really want to spend on bigger sizes. Just wondered what everyone else facing this issue is doing?

I've gained half a stone and mid 40's it isn't keen on shifting.

I'm on week two of a serious and frankly unpleasant diet. But it is going to get warm soon and I'm not buying bigger summer clothes.

I've given myself six weeks to reset by eating and drinking.

daisiesinmay · 22/04/2021 09:25

Babysharkdoodoodood that's frustrating, it sounds like the work trousers sizing isnt reliable. Good luck with your new job.

Thanks all, it does seem that those who have got new jeans are feeling happy about it so I might look at that with the hope they can be baggy jeans later on Wink Any tips on where's got nice and not too expensive jeans just now?

@daisiesinmay I don’t usually shop at H&M but I’m happy with these. They have a bit of stretch in them so are very comfortable. Bizarrely I ordered them in another colour and the fit was completely different and too big, so they’ve been sent back... Definitely recommend the black though.

Gah, picture won’t post. It’s these www2.hm.com/en_ie/productpage.0714790028.html

BUT, would you feel guilty, if you were needing smaller clothes, because you lost weight? Or would you go out and buy a tonne of new clothes, gleefully? If it's the latter, then the guilt has less to do with clothes and more to do with weight gain, which you really don't need to feel guilty about imo. **

Presumably the aim though when someone loses weight is to keep it off?

Whereas these posters are hoping the weight gain is temporary

@daisiesinmay I love TU sainsbury jeans. I'm a short arse and a curvy 10/12 and their girlfriend jeans are nice and will be ok baggier later

daisiesinmay · 22/04/2021 10:37

Those look nice Miseryisabutterfly and will check out the TU ones as well -thanks Smile

Just buy some new jeans. Its always useful to have a pair of size up jeans anyway in case this happens again or you are having a bloated day.

Buy some baggier or boxier tops that will still look okay once you've lost the weight

I've put on roughly a stone. I'm not overly bothered, it's been a year of doing very little and probably overeating. That will slowly come off when I resume normality, over time, because I will be moving more candles snacking leas organically. Yes I can feel in myself that I'm untoned and preferred how I looked before but my body has survived a deadly pandemic so I'm happy to give it a break and accept that ultimately you can't expect to not exercise and eat snacks for a year and not look different. If it took a year to put on a stone it will take some time to lose it. I intend to reevaluate the amount of sweet treats I've got into the habit of having daily because I think that's generally unhealthy and that's about it really.

I just bought a few new basics, I'm still not going out much or to anything fancy so sized up in jeans which feels great because they don't feel tight, I actually feel slimmer wearing them. Everything else still fits because I prefer tops oversized. Will fold the tighter jeans back up and try on again in a few months to see if they fit, I don't tend to check scales.

MrsVeryTired · 22/04/2021 11:18

I've been wearing my more forgiving clothes, I like skinny jeans but they are all a bit tight at the moment Blush so its my old chinos and boyfriend style jeans atm. I have far too much of an actual "mum tum" to wear Mom jeans Grin

The weather is getting warmer though and now that wider legs are back in I'm going to check out my old linen trousers and see if any of them look ok.

I lost weight a few years ago so still have plenty of my old clothes. But definitely been in a "everything is crap" mode so just eat anything lately Sad

ExConstance · 22/04/2021 11:40

I put on a fair bit and was quite embarrassed as most of my friends had embraced exercise and lost weight during both lockdowns. I've lost 24lb with Noom since 1 February and am feeling much better. I'm down to a size 12 now, from 14 edging close to 16 and hope to be a 10 before te end of the summer. I've bought new clothes in modest quantities for the summer at the lower end of what I'd usually buy - WhiteStuff, Boden, Hush and if they are too big next year I'll sell them on ebay. if you buy something new and feel better when you wear it then it does help you stick to the diet.

PollyThePony · 22/04/2021 12:09

Yes, op already said something along those lines @Lassy1945 and I responded Smile

PollyThePony · 22/04/2021 12:12

I do think when people say things like, "I'm a size 8 for the first time in my life and I'm so happy! So, I'm buying a whole new wardrobe and getting rid of my size 12s as I will NEVER be that size again", I do think, well if you're a size 8 now, having been another size most of your life.. don't you think there's a chance you might change size again some day? I think when people lose a significant amount of weight their chances of then keeping it off longterm are statistically quite low.

But that's not the op who just wants to go back to her 'normal' weight. She does probably need some stop-gap items though and shouldn't feel overly guilty about that. And I say that as a low buy and minimalist wardrobe enthusiast Grin

Lovemusic33 · 22/04/2021 12:58

I am the same, I am trying hard to lose the weight I have gained so I don’t have to buy the next size up, I am a 12 but really need a 14 right now. I refuse to buy a 14. I’m living in harem trousers, dungarees and stretchy skinny jeans but the jeans don’t feel comfortable.

This is such a good way of looking at it, I’m trying to be thankful to my body for surviving a pandemic instead of hating it.

I will also be having less chocolate!

@Babysharkdoodoodood

I just cried. New posting starts on Friday Ordered uniform. Trousers in a 24 - 2 sizes up as I thought that would allow for a year sat in my arse. 2 inch gap between button and hole Sad Very unforgiving polyester cotton. My normal non uniform trousers are a 20 and fit fine.

Going to have to wear normal trousers to work and Ho through the caff of getting them returned and re-ordered.

NHS by any chance?
