Are some clothes designed by women haters?

I mean check out these two...found while perusing the Debenhams closing down sale.

Surely the people who designed this can't like women?

And how did the photographer/stylist/buyers think these were worth stocking? Confused

Have you seen anything lately that makes you think they could only have been designed by a hateful misogynist?

That's a bit of a leap, isn't it?

OK, so the oatmeal thing looks like some martial arts garb and that blue monstrosity looks extremely cheap and probably wouldn't even flatter a slimmer model but I'm not getting the misogyny.

AppleKatie · 17/04/2021 23:51

It’s a bit of a leap- there are other less fugly items out there that scream misogyny.

These are just poor taste really.

PickAChew · 17/04/2021 23:59

Though blimey. This isn't even sale stuff.

MorgeMooney · 18/04/2021 00:00

High waisted jeans were designed by camel toe loving sadists.

margaritasbythesea · 18/04/2021 00:03

My daughter and I spend a lot of time trying to find ourselves clothes we'd like to wear. We have very different tastes and body shapes, but each of us likes about one percent of things we see, and about 10 percent of that would actually suit us or fit us.

I cannot imagine what they're playing at.

ZednotZee · 18/04/2021 00:04

@PickAChew

A fair proportion of women are going to look exactly like that in that swimsuit.
Perhaps they like being represented?

How is that misogynistic? She looks fat but great, droopy tits and all.

wheresmymojo · 18/04/2021 00:06

Sorry, clearly I forgot to say lighthearted

PickAChew · 18/04/2021 00:09

I have droopy tits like that and all that tells me is that is not the swimsuit I want. I'd like more coverage so that the droopy tits I have are less likely to flop out and get stood on, the minute I stop posing and pouting and actually try to move in it.

ZednotZee · 18/04/2021 00:12

Well I guess you aren't in your twenties either.

The young and droopy of tit are allowed to flaunt their assets too you know.

MiddlesexGirl · 18/04/2021 00:15

Does anyone think the above are at all flattering though? I can't imagine choosing to wear any of them!

TheBullfinch · 18/04/2021 00:24

Fashion has never been about being flattering though, it's about the new and the daring.

I also search in vain for flattering clothes, in my size, which suit my shape and colouring and which I can afford. 95% of whats on offer isn't it.

PickAChew · 18/04/2021 00:28

I'd be more convinced if the model didn't have a right face on.

Divebar2021 · 18/04/2021 00:30

I’m not sure what the issue is exactly? Not my taste but then I’m not the target audience. I’m not sure of the point about the swimsuit either but I’m reminded of a thread a few months back where the whole point was to say “ would you buy this yoga wear” which was being modelled by a plus size model.

If you're implying I'm fat shaming you're barking up the wrong tree.

The whole reason I came across these in the plus size section is because I'm a size 22 so that's the section I shop in.

I do sometimes wonder if life isn't a bit dull being so very serious?

wheresmymojo · 18/04/2021 00:49

I guess it could be that the designers don't hate women...just fat people?

I can't imagine two less flattering designs to put the poor models in!

GreenTeaPingPong · 18/04/2021 00:52

There's a quote I think I heard on here a while back: Fashion is a conspiracy on the part of gay men to make young women look ridiculous.
I don't think it's daring or edgy, in general, it's more that it has to bring in something different each season to keep people buying new stuff, so you can't wear the previous season's cut out sleeves without looking passe.

Divebar2021 · 18/04/2021 01:23

@wheresmymojo

I’m plus sized too... I just don’t get the examples... there are way worse things out there to my mind. 🤷‍♀️

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 18/04/2021 01:35

The padded judo top is alright - not great but not terrible. I can’t imagine they’re selling many of the satin jumpsuit though. And god help anyone the shape of that model who tried to actually swim in that “swimming costume”.

Misogynists is a leap though. I’d point that accusation instead at the people who produce grossly misleading photos of garments on preternaturally stylish and gorgeous models in an attempt to persuade unsuspecting women to shell out money for something which will make them look like a badly stuffed sofa.

And just because it can never be shared too often, here is the classic Expectation vs Reality thread.

Thank you for that thread @ladyisabellawrotham. I'm crying with laughter by page 3.
