Just been reading about the lyma laser- it sounds amazing but there don’t seem to be many user reviews out there, has anyone on here tried it? If so does it live up to the hype?

@Bellatell , that is interesting. Fat loss doesn't have to be permanent. After realising the device had caused fat loss in the areas concerned, I did some research. There is indeed some medical research that shows LLLT causes fat loss. How exactly this happens, however, is still unknown. There are multiple hypotheses currently, but broadly, there are two main thoughts: 1. that LLLT somehow causes fat cells to die - this would mean that the fat loss is permanent at a given weight. If the person gains weight after this point, the remaining fat cells will get bigger, of course, but the whole body gets bigger. The area in which the fat cells died is still smaller in relation to the rest of the body. This is what happens with liposuction too. 2. LLLT does not kill fat cells but causes some fat to leach out of the cells or speeds up fat metabolism in the area LLLT is applied to. This would mean if you stop using LLLT on that particular area, the fat cells will 'refill'.
My experience suggests 2. is more likely. Intuitively too, I find it hard to believe LLLT can actually kill healthy viable fat cells. If that were the case, LLLT would actually be a pretty destructive thing and not touted as a rejuvenating treatment.
What you are saying is something else entirely. That there is no fat loss just temporary atrophy of the skin as part of the process of skin remodelling. Who knows what the answer is? Research on LLLT is frankly still in the early stages and there is much that we don't know. We don't even know for sure how or why light affects cells in our body. But for me, any risk of losing fat in my face, boobs or butt (all areas I was using the device on) is not worth taking, so I will just limit the use to areas I don't mind losing fat from. Thanks for adding another perspective though. It's really helpful to learn from one another.

@Bellatell I have to second you on your experience with your scar, btw. I have found that one of the most effective and visible effects of the Lyma laser is on scars, even decades old ones.

Bellatell · 10/03/2023 15:38

Hi, yes, it has. No one has said to me, “Oh, you look so young.” But if I keep on using it they might! I have seen an overall lift in my face; one specific is my jowl line on the right has now split into two smaller lines. There is a quarter inch gap between the lines which is enlarging. Hopefully, it will absorb the lines entirely. My nasolabial fold on the right, which was close to my scar, is noticeably more shallow than the one on the left. My jawline is tighter, my wattle is modestly better. My eyes are modestly lifted. It may not work for you but, with devoted, daily use, I can definitely say it has worked, and continues to work, for me. Any other questions, let me know.

I think that from those mentioning fat loss one of the ladies mentioned 4-5 hours use in a day and the other 1 hour a day. To do this in one area for so long I think it can cause fat loss. Iv been using mine no longer than ten minutes on an area and I notice plumpiness which is what I want. It has worried me that others have mentioned fat loss but I think if used for an extended period of time it could possibly have that effect so I dont think theres any need to treat longer than the times stated by lyma.

Bellatell · 10/03/2023 23:27

mum247hey Sounds like you are doing what works and getting the results you want. Good for you.

GBoucher · 11/03/2023 02:40

@mum247hey, just to clarify, I wasn't placing the Lyma laser on a single spot for 4-5 hours! I had many individual burn marks all over the left side of my face and neck where hot oil had splashed and landed on my skin. I used the laser for 10-15 minutes on each of these spots once or twice a day. The 4-5 hours was the total amount of time I spent each day treating all of these different spots. 10-15 minutes on an individual spot (as in, the area the light shines on when you keep the device still without moving it) doesn't seem excessive to me. Someone also mentioned (not sure if it was on mumsnet or some other site) that when they contacted Lyma company to ask a question about something, the customer rep told her in order to get significant results you had to use the laser for a lot longer that the suggested 3 minutes per spot, that 3 minutes was more like the absolute minimum or something along those lines...

Hi, thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I really want to try this device for sagging skin (I'm 56) so if anyone has any real experience with it tightening the jowls and cheeks I would love to hear more...thanks!

Jobear2797 · 24/04/2023 17:20

That’s exactly what I’ve been using mine for, especially as I’m trying to lose weight and want to tighten the skin as I go, hubby said after using the device every day for a couple of weeks that there was a noticeable difference. Plus on top of that crows feet and lines were far less deep and my skin looked much more uniform in both colour and texture, I’m blown away by how well it performs but like most things with skincare, consistency is key.

Bellatell · 24/04/2023 17:33

I feel it's made a significant improvement for me at 76. I didn't expect much but jowls, nasolabial folds and turkey neck are slowly and significantly getting better. I didn't expect anything on my neck but there is visible tightening. At my age I figure it'll take me a year until I can switch to maintenance but I'm so motivated by what I see I don't care!

stroevej · 24/04/2023 19:21

That's super encouraging. thanks! I guess I may have to go and spend the money to give it a try though it is a bit scary to spend that much! Glad it's working for some and I hope I similarly get good results.

Mercurial123 · 29/04/2023 11:35

I've thought about purchasing one but can't commit to something that you can't return.

All reviews online seem to say it's amazing, which could be sponsored. Trustpilot has some negative reviews.

Bellatell · 29/04/2023 14:56

I’ve had a great experience and am not sponsored. I paid for it. There’s no way to be sure it’ll work as well for you. You could buy a used one for less on EBay.

complexsimplicity · 03/03/2024 21:32

OMG! The Lyma laser pro is out! What to do?!

Jaminsmom17 · 30/09/2024 22:59

@complexsimplicity what did you end up getting? I just came out the other side of a very stressful few months and noticed the impact on my face so was thinking of getting the pro. Would love to know how you got on!

chachachaboomboom · 30/09/2024 23:43

What's the difference between the pro and the previous version?

I bought the PRO - just one word wow! I was getting these ridges across my cheeks, like eye bags put more defined and I’ve used it on each cheek for 3 mins a day and my cheek is plumper and bags have just faded away. So impressed

Has anyone had a problem with the cap on the Lyma laser being stuck? I'm trying to get the cover off so I can charge the battery but I think the cap didn't screw on properly on the thread and won't come off. Tried a vice grip and some coconut oil in the thread as well and it's still not budging.

mum247hey · 09/02/2025 21:08

@yurih Yes it happened to me seems like it could be a common problem with lymas. The battery gets locked in and thats the end of the laser. Completely unusable after that.It wasn’t because you didn’t screw it on properly. They actually have a lifespan. You can only use them for up to a certain length of time it says it in the black book for how long. Lyma need to offer a longer guarantee period especially for the PRO one.

Branster · 09/02/2025 21:31

Is it because the battery has ran out? Or the laser itself has a limited lifespan?
There are some battery replacement services available through independent electrical shops or eBay. For things like cordless Lumea and similar devices. Maybe someone knowledgeable might be able to
A) open the thing
B) replace the battery
If there is no other option, you might as well try something like this. Look for Lumea or IPL or Laser device battery replacement service and contact the company and ask if they can look at your device and offer a quote.

What does the manufacturer say? Do they offer a replacement service at reduced cost or nothing at all? It is such an expensive item.

Have you contacted them? If you bought less than two years ago you’re still in guarantee. I’ve not hard anyone saying they’ve had this problem before but they’ll be able to let you know if it’s a problem they’ve had before. Good luck with getting fixed!

yurih · 10/02/2025 04:53

Hi,

I am going to try again tomorrow. I put some WD 40 in the gap where the thread is for the battery cap. Going to try again to unscrew it tomorrow. I think it was screwed on improperly and stuck. Tried unscrewing it but it was just pulling the inner laser part out of the outer housing so left it alone. Hopefully I can get it off because then it's a paperweight. Yes, I've also contacted Lyma support so will see what they say. It's out of the 2 year period.
