ME!

Lots of us are.

I'm pregnant just now, so waiting to see what this one does to my skin.

whomovedmychocolate · 10/11/2007 22:33

I was before DD (I'm 34 now). Mine was because I have PCOS and it was a hormonal thing and all the potions in the world didn't help. Drinking lots of water did though.

Skribble · 10/11/2007 22:40

I have the same problem around my chin and mouth. Never had much problems as a teenager.

Its really since I had the kids so probably to do with hormones.

After years of putting up with it I went to see the GP. I am on a everyday oral antibiotic and the contraceptive pill Diannete, which is supposed to supresse the male hormone testosterone which can couse acne and excessive hair growth (which I have too). Only just started on thse this week so we will see how it goes.

Also got a clearasil cream containing Benzol Peroxide which seems to be tackling the spots that are already there. (only £2 in Ethel Austin).

I also like Olay Total Effects (anitaging+blemish care) not he normal one.
Or L'oreal Pure Zone (Anti Regreasing Moisturiser).
Plus Garnier Pure A Night, for at night .

Hey I am giving it all a go

expatinscotland · 10/11/2007 22:42

Dianette was fab for my skin.

Unfortunately, I am too old to take it, as I will be 37 when this one is born and also have elevated blood pressure.

MrsBadger · 10/11/2007 22:44

Liz Earle cleanse & polish morning and night, and 10% benzoyl peroxide (only from pharmacies) for the big ones

the gentle exfoliation you do with the liz earle stuff works much better to keep my pores clear than the harsher cleansers

Oh, interesting to hear that the nasty hormones are responsible for both my adolecent chin and my granny hairy jaw (totally yuk)

I seem to have a certain area on my chin where I almost always have a spot. I do not have loads of spots, just one recurring one. Worse just before I get my period.

Will ask my gynae about the dianette next week.

Skribble · 10/11/2007 22:50

Good to here Dianete worked though.

I also like St Ives Apricot scrub- Blemish Fighting.

I have tried all sorts over the years and those are what helps to keep it subdued, but it is always there. I have bad red scarring now, but can't tackle that as stuff for that brings out the spots again, vicious circle.

To top it all I have dark pigmentation too, fab realy /

Skribble · 10/11/2007 22:52

Mine goes through phases of having one single spot after another, just as one dies down another appears, but rest of the time its random spots all over, the big red bulging ones that come from deep within,

kindersurprise · 10/11/2007 22:53

I used to buy a great clarin (I think) concealer with an active ingredient for spots. It was great. The last time I looked for it, I was told it was discontinued. I now use a clarins cream without the concealer

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/11/2007 22:56

Still very spotty here. Have been since I was about 12 (now 34). Had roaccutane treatment years ago, and dermatologist said I was poss the worst case she had seen (used to have acne all over my back too). Back now better, but face crap.

Can't take pill as have been ttc (or pregnant) for last 7 years, and am too overweight to be allowed it.

I use Elemis products, and have recently started with a new product of theirs called 'tri-enzyme resurfacing serum'. Don't think anything will ever clear it up for me, but every little helps.

kindersurprise · 10/11/2007 23:04

Ha! Just had a look at the website, it was Clinique not Clarins. And they have the old concealer back again! It is antibacterial and was really good for concealing spots and shadows under the eyes.

Off to order one right now!

Skribble · 10/11/2007 23:39

I use antibacterial concelar and I have found the mineral powder foundation doesn't aggrivate my spots.

Skribble · 10/11/2007 23:40

here is the stuff I use [http://www.silknaturals.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=30 Silk Naturals]] I think I got it on ebay but still from them. Very good price compared to bare minerals etc.

Skribble · 10/11/2007 23:40

Try again

Silk Naturals

Neverenough · 10/11/2007 23:44

Adult Acne is not uncommon in women in their 30s and 40s and tends not to be responsive to the usual treatments-topical and oral antibiotics.
Dianette may help if no contraindications,
Roaccutane is wonderful-though commonly causes dry lips and nose. But works like nothing else. Can only be prescribed by a Dermatologist though.

Hideehi · 11/11/2007 18:00

I actually took roaccutane in my twenties and it was fantastic but i must say i thought i'd only have to go through that once and it would be dealt with.
I'm thinking of TTC soon so i guess i have to wait until i've hung my womb up once and for all lol

I posted this on another thread recently but apparently if your skin is a bit oily and prone to spots then, on a positive note, it will age better than the skin of people who don't get spots. So its not all bad

Lainey38 · 11/11/2007 18:13

So annoying. I've been waiting to grow out of it since I was 10.
I really object to having to use wrinkle cream and spot cream at the same time.
Benzoyl peroxide is good cream tho. I notice a huge difference if I stop using it.

Skribble · 11/11/2007 23:24

Oh I know I have anti spot, anti wrinkle, anti dark circle, skin repair, skin firming, hair growth reducing, anti in growing hair and cream for dry skin on my elbows.

potatofactory · 12/11/2007 08:51

I know this is NOT the same thing, but I have unbelivably dry skin all the time, and constant eczema breakouts. I use protopic, and steroid creams (not on face) but want a really good moisturiser which isn't just goose grease in a tub - any tips - or other tips on eczema? I could try and start a rival thread - oily versus dry!

3catstoo · 12/11/2007 10:14

I get really bad spots now. Never did as a teenager.

I'm sure it's hormonal in my case.
I get spots just before Ov then again just before and during AF. My jawline is a mass of scars and itchy spots.

My gp gave me one course of antibiotics and they did nothing. Next AF I was covered again.

They have just started going down onto my chest and neck too. Horrid!

Have been trying to conceive number 4 for 15 months so not taken anything for a while. All this started after having children and has got much worse since having number 3 3 years ago.

becaroo · 12/11/2007 10:22

God, yes.

When I am on my period I get hideous yellow headed monsters almost the size of a second head.

Was the same as a teenager though...only really got them when menstruating.

saythatagain · 12/11/2007 11:29

Yep and I'm forty (just)! I've just finished taking a course of some prescribed medication; the doctor said mine was bacterial (it looked like acne roasaia (sp?), didn't hurt but looked angry and made me feel miserable. After about 3/4 months it's all gone. People have commented on my flawless skin ...
I think it was called Treptacycol (???)

ELF1981 · 12/11/2007 12:31

I'm only 26 but still suffer from terrible skin

was on Dianette from age of 16 but no change, now swapped to just a "normal" pill

I had some cream from the doc a few months ago which seemed to help with the scarring, though still bad. May go back for more.

Just depressing, isn't it!
