My DD 13 has developed really flakey scalp on her hairline . I should think it's probably to do with hormones etc what works at getting rid of it , it's not like dandruff there's big flakes of it in her hair . Her actual scalp doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it it's Just all in her hair if that makes sense. Has anyone got any suggestions xx

Head & Shoulders (or the cheaper Tesco version). It's not dandruff, it's something else (can't remember the name) but an anti-dandruff shampoo will clear it.

Also if she wears hats, she shouldn't - my DS insists on wearing a beanie in school and it's always much worse then.

MooGoo is brilliant. moogooskincare.co.uk/

DragonMamma · 06/04/2021 16:45

My DD had the same problem and it cleared up with the Body Shop ginger shampoo

Watching with interest as my teenage daughter suffers the same thing, but all over and we've struggled to find anything that works!

GoWalkabout · 06/04/2021 16:58

We always go straight to Nizoral or Polytar. Not an expert though.

Floralnomad · 06/04/2021 17:01

The green Head and Shoulders , it’s the itchy scalp version.

Juancornetto · 06/04/2021 17:02

Avoid products with SLS in them

EvilPea · 06/04/2021 17:09

I have this problem.
No poo method did help but it randomly came back worse all of a sudden. I’m now using childs friend, which helps but isn’t solving it.

DinosaurDiana · 06/04/2021 17:10

The T-Gel one.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/04/2021 17:13

Faith in Nature Rosemary shampoo, SLS and paraben free, I wish I had this when I was a teen its been a revelation for my hair and scalp.

JeffreyJefferson · 06/04/2021 17:15

defo go for the body shop ginger shampoo. smells much nicer than t gel and the only thing that has worked for me

Cismyfatarse · 06/04/2021 17:27

Moo Goo is SLS free. This and the Body Shop were game changers for me. Overly medicated shampoos which stripped the scalp were terrible long term. Gentle and natural seem to have helped enormously.

Glittertwins · 06/04/2021 17:56

We've been having this with DD13. I got her the Garnier oats/soothing scalp one. Head and Shoulders left her hair looking dreadful

Tweetypietwo · 06/04/2021 18:23

E45 shampoo

TrainWhistleChoir · 06/04/2021 18:26

DS has something similar. We use an anti-dandruff shampoo from Amazon which is really good.

Keepmeawayfromthebuffet · 06/04/2021 18:30

Agree with body shop ginger shampoo, made a massive difference to my ds scalp, also didn’t make his hair greasy like head and Shoulders and tgel did

mymymy0 · 06/04/2021 18:46

Nizoral is the only thing that's worked for me/my family

fizbosshoes · 06/04/2021 18:54

Weve used oilatum, tgel or head and shoulders (the one in a box, in a smaller bottle which is a bit more expensive)

Inmypjsagain · 06/04/2021 22:26

I second the Philip Kingsley linked above together with this one www.lookfantastic.com/philip-kingsley-no-scent-no-colour-gentle-shampoo-250ml/10303601.html?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&shoppingpid=15PCLF&thg_ppc_campaign=71700000026979856&adtype=pla&product_id=10303601&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg8LV-cXq7wIVREiRBR0nOweTEAQYASABEgKUFvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds once the flakiness has gone. It’s a lovely gentle shampoo. How often is she washing her hair? I know a lot of people say not to wash hair often, but I think can cause a build up of oils and dead skin cells that can make things worse (not an expert, just experience with my own hair and asking my hairdresser) A regular wash (every 2 days or so) with a gentle shampoo should help clear it without stripping the scalp. I’d probably avoid anything too harsh or perfumed.

Crystal2000 · 06/04/2021 22:28

The shampoo I swear by for dandruff/scalp flaking is Philip Kingsley Flaky Itchy scalp shampoo - expensive but will clear the flakes, remove any itching and importantly leaves hair feeling great.

PeacheyPeach · 06/04/2021 23:29

Hi all thanks for all your replies it's given me something to go on now and will be able to get her something to sort it out hopefully. She probably washes her hair about twice a week. Doesn't use any products on it, we have been using Tresame shampoo and conditioner would you say this was to strong and could be the reason for it?

Thank you all. Same problem here with my DD. Some good suggestions to try

Lanaa · 07/04/2021 07:14

As a few other people have suggested go straight to Nizoral. Use it for the second lather, leave on the scalp for a few minutes and then condition. Lots of dandruff and itchiness is caused by fungal infections, so this is the only thing that sorts it.

PeacheyPeach · 07/04/2021 15:08

@lanaa when you say use it for the second lather do you mean wash hair first with normal shampoo and then use that?
