Help with my wavy, frizzy hair pls! - with pics

What product should I use?

Ideally on wet hair but on dry too, to tame frizz and bring out waves and curls?
My hair used to be straighter, but is now v frizzy and if left wet, will curl or go wavy. Nothing I apply seems to tame it when it turns into a bush. These pics are on a good day. Obv sometimes I straighten, but would like to wear wavy too

Easier routine the better!

Thanks

My hair is like yours, and my grey hair is definitely curlier and frizzier than my original colour. No real solution, but I have found the Shiseido Shusu Sleek shampoo really good, and I really rate Label M revitalising oil. Regular blunt cuts to the ends help too.

Davines curl building serum has worked for me.

@aretherereally4Hs
I have low lights (2.shades if darker foils on my almost white hair) every 5 weeks but my hair isn't in terrible condition.
Next time I will thoroughly wet hair in shower before applying Opalex for a few hours.
What is co-washing?

LittlestBoho · 08/04/2021 22:19

@SueblueNZ Curly hair needs both protein and moisture. I think Olaplex is a protein treatment, but some people's hair gets overloaded with protein very easily and it makes it frizzy and stringy this post talks about protein overload. Do you use another, hydrating deep conditioner? I recommend Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil Hair Mask or Garnier Hair Foods Banana Mask . Apply it, put on a shower cap and wrap a T shirt over the top. The heat from your head will open the hair shaft and help the moisture to penetrate.

OP I used to think my hair was wavy but frizzy; it's actually super curly, I just didn't know how to care for it. Look into the curly girl method. You don't have to stick to it 100%, but avoiding silicones, never brushing your hair when drying, regular deep conditioning and using a good curl cream or gel will give your hair a new lease of life.

I have wavy hair which I either blow dry straight or leave to dry naturally. If I want to encourage a wave I use the Bumble and Bumble surf range

Emanchego · 08/04/2021 22:38

We have the same hair, even the colour looks to be the same. I've tried lots of high end brands, but this one is really working for me. I don't need to use loads like I usually do either: www.boots.com/shea-moisture-manuka-honey-and-mafura-oil-intensive-hydration-hair-masque-354ml-10252936

CraftyYankee · 08/04/2021 22:43

@SueblueNZ where did you get the Olaplex 3 from? If it was Amazon or another non authorized retailer then it's a good chance it's fake. Lots of horror stories about people's hair being fried by fake Olaplex. 😠

ChrissyPlummer · 08/04/2021 22:45

@SueblueNZ as pp said, Olaplex 3 is not a smoothing/de-frizzing treatment. It’s to repair bonds in bleached/processed hair. I make my hair damp, smooth it through and leave overnight then wash in the morning.

PickAChew · 08/04/2021 22:48
@RacheyCat
It's more wet than damp, but all the instructions I have read say to wash it out afterwards.
Dammit, does that mean in the shower to wash, out, apply Opalex and wait around for at least 10 mins (but I'd prefer far longer) then back into the shower to wash and condition?
I find it much easier to wash my hair over the side of the bath. It's really thick, though, and I don't get the nape very clean in the shower.

PersonaNonGarter · 09/04/2021 00:09

IGK Mistress Balm from Space NK. It’s amazing for dealing with frizz and makes hair look expensive.

Nyfluff · 09/04/2021 00:19

Wash hair, dry with a tshirt, scrunch in Cantu curl cream, blow dry upside down on cool with a diffuser, add a touch of frizz ease serum with 'praying hands' to stop the frizz.

SueblueNZ · 09/04/2021 03:05

@CraftyYankee
I am in NZ. I bought it from NZ and bought it from a salon. At $50 it is the real deal.

RacheyCat · 09/04/2021 16:55

If you just want something that makes your hair look less frizzy, the Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray is fairly good, but you have to set it with a proper blow-dry with a round brush creating tension. I bought the Revlon hair dryer brush because I really cannot learn to use a brush and a dryer at this late stage in my life. The downside is obviously that your hair is then straight rather than wavy, but it does manage the frizz well enough. My hairline frizz comes back somewhat if I get sweaty, but I can reset it with the dryer and it's good again. Otherwise, my hairline frizz pops up as soon as I go outside.

RacheyCat · 09/04/2021 17:04

Actually, it looks like there's a version for curly hair too, which might work better for you? My hair was more curly/wavy before all the bleaching, but now each strand is like this: ^^^^^ Grin

SueblueNZ · 19/04/2021 05:52

As an update, I now know where I have been going wrong. The advice I was given when I shelled out $50 at a salon for Opalex 3 was all wrong. Having had my colour redone last week with Opalex 1 and 2 used as a treatment, I understand that 3/perfector rarely works without the frist two as a base. Also, as some of you advised upthread, I am to shampoo and rinse my hair then apply 3 onto towel-dried, leave it on for as long as I can (1.5 hours yesterday), then rinse off and condition. This gave a much better result. Effectively the advice I was given by a hairdresser when I bought the bottle has caused me to waste a third of it.
Will I replace Opalex 3 when it runs out after about another three uses? No.
I think I will go back to spending $100 every 12 weeks or so on a Keratin smoothing treatment. That certainly gave me the more groomed look I am after and I can minimise the use of straightening irons..

coodawoodashooda · 19/04/2021 07:11

Thanks for these recommendations.

towers14 · 19/04/2021 12:37

I was bought Olaplex 5 for Xmas, was very disappointed, nothing special and I'm going back to my good old Frizz Ease which has always done the job.
