Help with my wavy, frizzy hair pls! - with pics

What product should I use?

Ideally on wet hair but on dry too, to tame frizz and bring out waves and curls?
My hair used to be straighter, but is now v frizzy and if left wet, will curl or go wavy. Nothing I apply seems to tame it when it turns into a bush. These pics are on a good day. Obv sometimes I straighten, but would like to wear wavy too

Easier routine the better!

Thanks

Also, olaplex...any good?

I love nexxus keraphix conditioner from Boots, but currently unavailable.
My hair is dry and breaks easily, although in better condition than it used to be. I quite like the intense Dream Lengths conditioned, but love nexxus!

Olaplex is the nuts! I gave similar hair type to yours and the olaplex 3 was a miracle!

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 05/04/2021 17:28

Also I used that L'Oréal dream water 8 seconds stuff this morning-it was also great for the price.

I have similar hair to you, maybe a bit more wavy, but thick and frizzy.

I’ve just bought some olaplex no 6. And also some Umberto Gianni gel and mousse. Trying to make it a bit more curly. So idea is the gel goes on damp/wet hair after washing. Don’t heat dry. Wrap up in a towel and wait. When nearly dry scrunch your hair. Then add mousse.

I’m going to try it tomorrow and see how it goes.

I use Redken All soft mega shampoo and conditioner on my thick coarse frizzy hair. i get it from lookfantastic website.

Product wise I use Harry's Taming Cream - but I've got short hair.

Cokecake · 05/04/2021 19:40

You might actually have curly hair.

My hair is much frizzier and curlier than your and olaplex has worked wonders in it so worth a try! It is expensive but for me but one of the only products that have actually made a real visible difference to my hair.

middleager · 06/04/2021 00:57

I have similar hair. I'm two weeks into the Curly Girl Method and already my hair is transformed.

Disabrie22 · 06/04/2021 01:05

What is Olaplex number 6 is like?

TaraR2020 · 06/04/2021 01:08

Ah the curl/frizz dilemma!

The following should help, especially if you decide to try the cg method and while you are working out what products suit your hair:

Switch to a wide toothed comb instead of using a brush,

Use a microfibre turban or an old t-shirt to gently wrap your hair in, when ready dry using a diffuser,
Try sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase,
A tiny amount of argan oil or similar to smooth any flyaways and help dryness if prone,
Always use a heat protector spray if using heat products,
Comb through conditioner in the shower,
Rinse with cool/cold winter and finish blow drying with cool air, both of which will smooth the cuticles.

Basically, the less you do with your hair the better it will be and the longer you do less, the more natural bounce you'll get and less frizz. Learn to work with the wave and it will be happier for it!

Polestar50 · 06/04/2021 01:24

I have similar hair and I wash hair every 2-3 days then scrunch in Kuene So Pure Moisturiser Treatment as a leave-in conditioner.

I've tried LOADS of different products over the years (not tried Olaplex tho

Polestar50 · 06/04/2021 01:28

Sent too soon.

Meant to add that I scrunch it in when hair is still pretty wet (about a marble size for long, thick hair) then leave to dry naturally. Makes lovely curls and keeps hair moisturised. Can feel a bit crunchy at first but I just comb through with fingers when dry and that softens it all up.

No brushing or blow drying. As someone above says, the less you fiddle and fuss with it the better.

I am so disappointed in Opalex #3 at home treatment. I bought it hoping it might tame my fine but frizz-prone hair.
I have now used it three times (once a week) and each time my hair has turned to wool ~ worse than the frizz I have been trying to get rid of. I have a high/low-lighted bob, just above shoulder length. Hair is in healthy condition but it never looks smooth or groomed.
I wonder if it is my application method that is wrong. Lots of (raving!) reviews I have read said the longer it is left on, the better. So each Sunday morning I have wet my hair with a water spray bottle, combed through to ensure fully damp, then applied a decent amount (say two capsful) and combed it through the lengths and my fringe, but avoiding the roots. I have then left it on for 1.5 to 2 hours, before having my shower, rinsing it off and shampooing and conditioning with good/salon products (but not Opalex S&C which are a RIDICULOUS price).
Please give me your thoughts on what I could be doing wrong. At this stage I will try once more but if I emerge again looking like a poodle I'll be tossing the Opalex in the back of the cupboard.

middleager · 06/04/2021 10:20

I might add that my hair is only Bob length but takes 4 hours to dry naturally.
I've just bought a Dyson and it's a real game changer with the diffuser.

RacheyCat · 07/04/2021 02:13

@SueblueNZ I use the salon version of Olaplex 3, and it says to wash hair first. If you're just making your hair damp, does it have much product on it when you do?

SueblueNZ · 07/04/2021 02:51

@RacheyCat
It's more wet than damp, but all the instructions I have read say to wash it out afterwards.
Dammit, does that mean in the shower to wash, out, apply Opalex and wait around for at least 10 mins (but I'd prefer far longer) then back into the shower to wash and condition?

With mine (Olaplex 2) I wash my hair just with shampoo, get out of the shower, blot hair with towel, leave hair to dry off a little, blot hair again; then I apply the Olaplex, stick on a shower cap, leave it for an hour and then wash out, shampoo and condition.

It's supremely tedious and I spend the whole time cursing myself for having bleached over-processed hair and trying to calculate how many years of this bullshit I've got left before it grows out and I'm left with regular frizzy hair rather than frizzy and frazzled hair.

GwendolineWindowlene · 07/04/2021 04:39

I use As I Am co-wash (very different to washing with conditioner) and then put on a 20p sized blob of this product and then leave it to dry.

CallmeIT · 07/04/2021 04:57

Aveda be curly co-wash and curl enhancer seems to work here.

pastaloverlover · 07/04/2021 06:25

When I used olaplex I always left it in overnight

ToManderleyAgain · 07/04/2021 06:37

I’ve started using this shampoo and conditioner www.livingproof.co.uk/shop/shop-by-benefit/anti-frizz/ it’s expensive but you don’t need much so you don’t need to rebuy too often.

I use a micro fibre hair towel too and that’s made a massive difference: my hair can now dry in natural curls rather than needing to be rubbed dry www.lookfantastic.com/aquis-hair-turban-lisse-luxe-white/11351901.html

aretherereally4Hs · 07/04/2021 07:05

@SueblueNZ is your hair bleached? Olaplex is a hair bonder to help damaged hair not just frizzy. Well that's what I was told!

Girlintheframe · 07/04/2021 07:15

I have much frizzier hair than you, mine is wavy too. For me opalex did nothing.

I've been using boucleme curl cream which is good at enhancing the waviness.
Tried 8 second wonder water too and that made a big difference to frizz.

Marmaladegin · 07/04/2021 07:35

I tried cgm for years before deciding I have to follow it pretty loosely. I recommend Shea moisture 5 in one shampoo (cgm safe) and Ogx kukui conditioner (black bottle). Basically I had hair like you and then found I needed to work at moisturising it really well but without leaving any coconut or glycerin on it.

Happycow · 07/04/2021 10:50

My hair is quite similar, and fine but loads of it (although a bit less shiny!).

I use Bumble and Bumble Dont blow it on damp hair (be a bit more generous than it suggests on the label- my hair varies a bit in how wavy it is but this creme always stops the frizz and encourages a wave!
