Do you pick out your outfit the day before?

I rarely do this and as a result I think it has contributed to rushed choices which are not always flattering....

How long do you spend deciding on what to wear and do you decide the day before or on the day?

Thanks

I sometimes do this.

What I have found really helpful in taking away some of the decision making when I'm choosing what to wear, is having a relatively small number of items in my wardrobe. I also have a sort of self imposed uniform, which I usually stick to. Doesn't sound fun, but I get a lot of joy out of it.

sugarlost · 05/04/2021 16:10

@GertrudeTheGreat thanks for your advice. I think the quantity in my wardrobe is a big problem so I will do another clear out for the charity shop and work on a uniform of my ownGrin

Hope you enjoy it! I've found it really frees up a lot of time and headspace Easter Smile

ZaraW · 05/04/2021 17:16

I do it with my work clothes. Im in the office at 7am, wake up 5.30 am so have to be organised.

thirstyformore · 05/04/2021 17:52

Pre covid I nearly always planned my outfit the night before and has it laid out ready to go. I'd always check the weather forecast too, and adapt my outfit depending on weather/who was doing school run etc. Mornings were always so busy and this meant less rushing about. I still do it now even though I haven't been in an office for over a year, but probably only 50/75% of the time. Particularly if I have an early work call.

Definitely makes it easier to have a well put together outfit.

sugarlost · 05/04/2021 18:52

It makes sense and will also help with my confidence if I can take time to look more presentable.

Do most people use the same handbag and jewellery?

OP posts:
GertrudeTheGreat · 05/04/2021 23:02

I only own two handbags and a backpack, but I have a deliberately small wardrobe.

I have a Kin (John Lewis), leather backpack which is smart(ish...for a backpack) and a huge, daytime, canvas, beach bag type thing, from the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania range. I also have a Kipling backpack, but only for groceries.

I don't have to dress up for an office though! In times gone by I did, and iirc I usually had just the one work bag.

Jewellery, I have a more 'normal' amount of, but tbh, I tend to wear the same earrings and pendant most days! I could probably get rid of the rest, but, some of it, I keep for sentimental reasons. Might get rid of the non sentimental stuff which isn't getting used though.

I use or did pre-lockdown StykeBook app for this, it's one of the best uses of the app IMO. Bit of hassle to set up admittedly (searching for online photos of your existing clothes does help but still takes a while) but once you've done it, outfit planning is a dream and you don't "forget" about clothes lurking in the back of your wardrobe any more. Been using it for years and would recommend to anyone.

OverByYer · 05/04/2021 23:46

Yes , I have work outfits and rotate them through the week. When I go to bed I put out what I’m wearing the following day inc underwear. I wear the same jewellery every day and have a work bag to keep things simple

quarentini · 06/04/2021 00:10

I pick out my outfits for the week ahead on a Sunday.
I get everything ready including underwear, shoes and accessories.
I just find it easier than faffing about daily

QueenPaw · 06/04/2021 00:47

Every day yes for work, I get out underwear, tights, then dress/skirt/top and shoes

For at the minute WFH.. Blush no. It's a mish mash of leggings and cheap boohoo oversize tops/jumpers

What has helped is having lots of dresses as they're easy to throw on. Skirts in navy, black and check. Blouses in green, navy, maroon and grey (for with the skirts or black wide leg trousers) plus the same style shoes in two different colours. Black and nude tights
Black blazer, navy check blazer, navy cardigan, striped cardigan
It's all pretty mix and match so I can grab the green blouse, black skirt, black blazer and black shoes and be done. Or the grey blouse, check skirt, nude shoes

FearlessSwiftie · 06/04/2021 05:36

I used to do this every day before the lockdown but now I do it only occasionally (for special events mostly)

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 06/04/2021 05:43

I usually do this to save time. For work I usually wear a dress, cardigan and tights but I get it all out, even underwear, and hang it up so it's all ready in the morning. I've noticed that when I don't do it I faff about a lot more.

silverstrawberry · 06/04/2021 06:09

I once watched an interview with Gok Wan who apparently spends four hours on a Sunday planning what he will wear that week ! I guess he uses weather app so I tried it but only needed an hour give it a try see how organised it makes you feel ..nothing much else to do on a Sunday evening ?

DisgruntledPelican · 06/04/2021 06:13

I used to do this when I had a long commute and needed to minimise faffing. It is a habit that’s stuck until wfh started! I need to get back to it really.

Ninkanink · 06/04/2021 06:36

I did when I worked OOH. Starting with footwear/bag (my favourites) and building the outfit around it! Smile

It definitely cut out a lot of hassle and stress in the morning routine and meant I always felt put together.

Ninkanink · 06/04/2021 06:40

I didn’t spend long. 10-15 min thinking about it/deciding what mood I was in.

I have a fairly strictly curated capsule wardrobe which keeps it simple. Everything I have goes together in some way so there’s no problem coordinating things.

DailyCandy · 06/04/2021 06:43

No not even pre-covid. I work best under pressure.

Horridcreature · 06/04/2021 06:49

Yes, still doing it but I don’t have a very exciting wardrobe.

picknmix1984 · 06/04/2021 06:50

Yes it's in my bedroom piled up on a chair. All ready. Same outfit as yesterday. Picked and ready to go!!

user159 · 06/04/2021 06:55

Yes! I've started this recently. So last night I got three outfits ready, underwear and everything and popped them in the spare room. I don't work Fridays. It's a bit of a rush in the mornings with nursery run etc so I love just having it there. WFH at the moment in a very casual company so not much jewellery or bags to worry about!

DorisLessingsCat · 06/04/2021 06:59

I've photographed all my clothes, shoes and jewellery and put them on a Pinterest board. I then sit in bed in the morning and scroll through to decide what to wear (in the days I actually left the house for work/socialising).

It's great because I remember clothes I had forgotten I owned. Especially at the changes in season.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 06/04/2021 07:07

I wear a uniform but I get everything ready the day before because I'm like a corpse when I wake up and need coffee and peace and quiet until I come round. I cant be doing with running around looking for things.

SeeYouInAnotherLife · 06/04/2021 07:13

I always pick my work outfits the night before. I lay everything out including underwear, tights etc. I have a lot of work dresses and sometimes I set myself challenges like wearing a different outfit every day for as long as I can with no repeats. I enjoy it and it means I wear everything in my work wardrobe.

Standrewsschool · 06/04/2021 07:16

Not usually. Sometimes I will get an outfit for work, but that’s usually because the rest of the household are still in bed, so I do it to save noise.
