Hush harems - how do you wear them?

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 17:42

I'm considering some of these.

I want to replace some leggings / yoga tights type things, which are fine for exercise, but don't look great on my figure. I didn't care about that for doing exercise, but it means I never wear them, except for exercise. Now they are on their last legs, I want to replace them with something more versatile / multipurpose.

So, are Hush harems good for yoga / walking, maybe on a spin bike even? And also, do you dress them up a bit for a slightly nicer, casual type look please? If so, how do you wear them?

I love the Hush harems but they are very thin so for me very much a summer trouser but I do wear them for yoga or lounging round the house as well.
In summer I wear them with a cami top or V neck Tshirt, denim shirt or denim jacket and sandals/flipflops but also wear them with my high tops.

JaneJeffer · 03/04/2021 19:11

The quality is terrible. The material is thin. The zips fall off. The waist tie is miles too long. I'd get Nike tracksuit bottoms instead!

Hoppinggreen · 03/04/2021 19:14

I look awful in Hush Harems , try Hush Amy instead or Baujken Neath pants
I wear mine with trainers or flat sporty type shoes or sandals and then a tshirt or casual shirt

travailtotravel · 03/04/2021 19:16

If you want hush harms but the knock offs from Ebay!

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 19:17

Thanks Ella. I wear a lot of v neck tees all year round as welll

I have some merino wool base layer type legging things, which I think I could wear underneath in colder weather maybe? I'll try them on to see, because sometimes they make Jersey type fabric look weird.

I'm ordering them! Exciting. I'll be quite content to say goodbye to the unflattering and now knackered leggings! Tbf to them, they did serve me well for a good while.

My hush harems are about 5 years old. They are lovely and thick so perhaps the material has changed in recent years. I wear them to death, but I have to say, I think they’re indoor clothes - really not fashionable any more. When I did brave wearing them out years ago, it was with a t-shirt, denim jacket and pretty sandals.

I have other joggers from hush - I think the aimee style - they are thin but the black ones can look nice dressed up a bit. The hush website photos style them pretty well i think. Similar to hareem pants but less billowy!

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 19:19

Oh x posted!

I've ordered, so will see how they are. If they aren't right, I'll return.

Hush harems on a spin bike?! You're joking surely? Unless you just sit there and don't pedal.Wink

They're VERY dated. 8 years ago fine for outside if you're very casual but now, they're indoor only-doing the laundry clothes. And you can get much cheaper (but no worse quality) for that.

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 20:39

I'm not especially fussed if they're dated or unfashionable tbh. I try NOT to follow trends if at all possible, as I have quite a small wardrobe and buy as little as possible, so there really isn't room for keeping up to date with current trends.

If they turn out to be uncomfortable or impractical or just look bad on me, they'll go back. But "they're way 8 years ago" couldn't mean less to me.

Thanks for the comment though Smile

Agree the quality is awful now - they look crap after a couple of washes (though I too still quite like the style despite it being dated!) People Tree are worth a try instead IMO.

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 20:52

Thanks! I'll check out People Tree. The only issue with a lot of the ethical / sustainable brands is that I'm quite tall, and need a longer leg length, which don't seem to be available on most of those sites, but maybe I can get away with a 'cropped' look with harems.

I bought the Harems for lounging, working from home, school run etc but find the zips really annoying. I like the style apart from that but would love to find something similar without the zips on the ankles.

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 21:00

I am studying at the moment and also have dcs at primary school, so it's mainly for school run, yoga, park, walks in the woods and at home.

I will pay special attention to the zips when I try them. That's a good tip, thank you, as that's probably not something I'd notice when trying on tbh!

OP posts:
GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 21:01

Does anyone know what the zips are for? Is it so you can turn them up?

OP posts:
EllaPaella · 03/04/2021 21:05

My Hush harems don't have any zips. The aimee joggers have zips.

SavoyCabbage · 03/04/2021 21:06

The JL website is full of reviews about the quality going down.

GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 21:06

Ah thanks Ella. I couldn't see them in any of the photos on their website. So, maybe they don't have them.

The ones I've ordered are the Alexa ones.

OP posts:
GertrudeTheGreat · 03/04/2021 21:08

I'll look at those, thanks Savoy. All great reviews on the Hush site, but that could be bollocks.

I like the composition of the fabric, as I think I've had something similar before and liked that sort of jersey. But if it's see through or clingy, I definitely won't want to keep them.

Hoppinggreen · 03/04/2021 21:28

Aimee has zips (wearing a pair right now)
By the way, Hush sizing is big OP

PalacePaper · 04/04/2021 09:31

I've got the harems - definitely no zips. I wear them all year round, with tights under if it's really cold. I wear them with similar things to others - t-shirt and sandals in warmer weather, I also like them with trainers and chunky jumper in winter. I personally wouldn't find them great for exercise. Maybe light yoga, but I think I'd get too warm and find them too loose - just my preference.

I've had them a couple of years and the quality is fine, hoping it hasn't gone downhill as I want to get another pair in a different colour for summer.

As others have said, the sizing is way off. I'm usually a 10-12 in bottoms and my harems are an 8. I guess if you wanted them really baggy you could get your usual size but I'd definitely recommend sizing down (unless they've updated the sizing since I got mine).

AnyFucker · 04/04/2021 09:37

The Alexa harems don’t have zips

I recently bought the grey ones in size 8 long and they fit perfectly (I am usually a 12 in trousers) so I hope you have sized down.

I find them to be good quality compared to other similar brands but they are pricey

I also have the Amie joggers in black and white stripe that have zips that break easily. However, these have been worn and washed many, many times and always come up well.

Whitney168 · 04/04/2021 09:39

Hush have entirely ruined their harems, so I wouldn't bother at all. The material is about half the weight it was, the cut is completely different and the cuffs at the bottom are about half the depth. I honestly think you could get better quality at Next for half the price.

I am gutted.

GertrudeTheGreat · 04/04/2021 10:12

Thanks for these tips! I've ordered my usual size 😩.

However, I'm very hippy. So it may be ok.

I doubt it but the returns system is fine Smile
