Clog/mule style shoe - scandi architect?

Are clog or mule style shoes cool?
I was thinking of DM ones or Birkenstock Bostons, for wearing with
dark indigo jeans. Something like these but in brown. Would they be a bit scandi architect?

When I ventured out recently, I noticed that teenage girls were wearing (white) crocs. Are these what young people are wearing this year?

I used to have a pair like the ones pictured. I found them difficult to walk in. I think they're too heavy for a mule. I had to adjust my gait to keep them on my feet.

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2021 20:51

Thanks. I wanted ones with straps, thinking they'd be better. I'd need to try them out.

I really fancy the birkenstocks but I already have arizonas.

Would wooden clogs be better?

Yes can we discuss this news that Crocs Are The Thing? I never had them before but think they would be amazing for bopping about in - is the sizing true?

Pigtailsandall · 01/04/2021 21:02

I like mules and I like the Nordic architect look. I've been eyeing up styles like that. I like these: www.johnlewis.com/kin-alena-leather-square-toe-flat-mules-black/p5469902

I deliberately didn't mention Crocs in the thread title. I love crocs and have not stopped wearing them - I wear them as back door shoes, and if I go to the beach.

These teenagers looked quite street stylish. I did a bit of a double take at their footwear, but two of them were wearing them.

I also noticed the crocs being worn in the high street, but I thought that maybe they'd gone out in their slippers.

@Pigtailsandall, they're nice but not 'me'.

Oh sorry I’ll start a new thread about them!

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2021 21:34

Crocs sizing is true but they tend to be in american sizes.

The teenagers were wearing the white crocs with dark leggings and socks. IIRC they had North Face puffer jackets on or hoodies and longg swishy hair.

Swedish Hasbeens or grey felted Birkenstock clogs.

Absolutely no Crocs.

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2021 21:41

@sansucre, this is the sort I like., but with jeans not white cropped trousers as I have pets and look silly in cropped trousers

I fancy a pair of Swedish Hasbeens.
I bought a pair of Joseph Siebel Betsy at the start of lockdown to wear as a "house shoe". I think the felted birkies are house shoes/slippers.

Yes, these are perfect, the ones in your original post are not.

(Although I am not a Scandi architect, I did work for a Nordic furniture brand for a long time and dealt with many architects, and not just Scandi ones, so I do like to think I know what I am talking about!)

Both Aeyde and Cos have some nice dressier mules. They have a very low heel, so are not necessarily every day shoes.

Not read Vogue for eons, much prefer Harpers Bazaar. (Also, product placement...)

FWIW, you are never going to sell me on Crocs!

sansucre · 01/04/2021 21:57

Anyway, wear what YOU like and what is comfortable. Sod what everyone else thinks! Grin

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2021 22:06

Thanks @sansucre, I use the term scandi architect because I have seen it on here,
I have no idea what scandinavian architects wear.

I'm thinking a sort of MHL vibe or the photos of people you see in architect type photos.

I alternate between an almost uniform of dark top with jeans or a L&Y dungas look, but I'm not sure I could brave going out in crocs as much as I like them.

I do, within my budget. Grin I get comments about the uniform.

I meant the photos in design-type magazines or websites that usually have serious looking youngish people in.

A typical look would be a navy fisherman roll neck with dark indigo straight jeans, and I thought the white mules but in brown would be good.

when not sombre looking I probably look like a cut price watered down zandra rhodes or bethan laura wood

I absolutely know what you mean by 'Scandi architect'. It's a 'style' reference I've only ever seen on here too, but do completely understand what is meant by it; simple, pared back and well-made clothes with a slight quirk or design details that elevates them from the usual minimal apparel.

MHL is great. I wish I had the funds for it, Studio Nicholson, Jil Sander and a myriad of other brands too.

Lastly, I have no idea how old you are, but since I hit my 40s, I stopped giving a fuck. I went to out earlier wearing a pair of socks with some Miu Miu faux fur and pearl slides. I just don't care what people think, particularly as most dress appallingly and/or safely anyway. Your uniform is similar to mine, so footwear is a chance to make it a little more personal to you. If Crocs make you happy, go for it!

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2021 22:20

Other tops I like are agnes b type cardigans and newlyn smock type things.

The problem with white mules is they can look a little too care home/nurse/chef-like.

Also, the youngish people you speak of all look too studied and identikit. There's actually little to no individuality. It's rather boring tbh. Do you want to look like a clone?

Apologies, I'm completely hijacking your thread.

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2021 22:31

I'm older than you. I like authentic stuff. YKWIM, a Barbour jacket would need to be a proper one, birkenstocks need to be real ones.

I do have imitation crocs from primark or aldi. They're just plastic shoes I wear as slippers. I'm not paying crocs prices for slippers.

The real agnes b cardigans are lovely, but I like t-shirts with the lots of buttons too, and I think they came from M&S and Muji (a few decades ago).

MN S&B is terrible for making me want things. I stay off the Toast an Parisienne threads.
