What’s in your capsule shoe wardrobe?

If you could only have say five pairs of shoes, what would you have?

I have a terrible tendency to buy the same pair of shoes over and over again, then end up wearing just my favourite version.

I don’t like black shoes so I think mine would be:

Tan ankle boots, low heel
Lightweight white trainers
Gold sandals
Ballerina pumps
Not sure about #5, maybe some knee length boots

If you don't include functional shoes (running shoes, walking boots, garden Crocs and wellies) then I could easily do this.

DM Chelsea boots,
Pale trainers (Stan Smith style),
Black classic Toms,
Strappy leather sandals.

Five pairs? What would I do with the other 67 pairs? It’s like being asked to choose your favourite child.

This is one of the problems with counting how many clothes you have imo! People will always count differently.

I could be cheeky and say I only have white trainers, smart shoes, ankle boots and chunky sandals (4 pairs altogether), if running shoes and flip flops for the pool / beach don't count. But then someone else would say I actually have seven as wellies do count! You end up with a range of things. I think as long as you have a number you're happy with and if you are genuinely using them all, then the number doesn't matter.

I’ve got more than 5 pairs of trainers for running so I’m out.
My bare minimum normal shoes
Ballerinas - black
Ballerinas light colour
Flip flops
Everyday trainers
Boots

Though that doesn’t give me any heels or sandals for dressy things. And my slippers are welded to my feet so they don’t count.

Okay ideal five
Short boots
Teva sandals
Sports shoes
Fancy sandals
Four is enough, or just put ugg boots because they are so comfy.

1. Safety shoes (have to have for work)
2. Black DM-style boots
3. Sandals
4. Hiking boots
5. Running trainers

I do also own a pair of shimmery purple DMs which I found in a charity shop and couldn't pass up; a smart pair of shoes I keep for job interviews; a pair of climbing shoes; neoprene boots which I almost never wear but which were perfect for keeping my footing on very slippery steps into the sea this winter; and some white lace shoes I got for a wedding which are now too stained for fancy events but I might possibly wear in summer. And I gave away my wellies when we moved but I would get some more if I can find a place to do outdoors volunteering.

If I had to cut it down to 5 I could polish up my black DMs for interviews and I haven't been climbing for almost 3 years, so could get rid of all the rest. I do love my purple boots though!

I can't go down to five Ten is my bare minimum.
