I’ve been looking at the Philips pen trimmers online. Are they good or what do you recommend?

Salons open again 12th April.
I have upper lip waxed every few weeks.

OwlBasket · 31/03/2021 20:14

Razor.

I’ve tried waxing, threading, plucking, that twizzely spring thingy, bleaching and (obviously) ignoring. Each has its drawbacks. Not so with a razor. Job done in two seconds not a drawback found in 20 years.

OwlBasket · 31/03/2021 20:15

Not 20 years (yet). 10 and fat fingers

EvilOnion · 31/03/2021 20:18

I agree with@OwlBasket, have decided to take the easy route and just shave the tache.

If it's good enough for my DH it's good enough for me - quick, cheap, painless and no fuss!

YawnyOwl · 31/03/2021 20:18

Salon...

BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/03/2021 20:20

Tinkle razor, layer of moisturiser/cleansing oil, shave it off. Phillips Lumea to zap it. Almost all gone and any rogue hairs get shaved. Waxing was pulling my skin too much and I could weep about all the years I used Jolen because I didn't know any different!

Lambside · 31/03/2021 20:23

Thread or a springy thing. Thread is more accurate.

3peassuit · 31/03/2021 20:25

Springy thing costs very little and does the job in a flash.

OwlBasket · 31/03/2021 20:58

All plucking methods require reasonably significant regrowth though. I hate that part. Then it hurts. Sure there are variations in the sort of hurt, but still. Pain. Then it’s just as smooth as shaving, fab. Then you wait for enough regrowth. Then... Bonkers.

A lot of women seem to feel that shaving is too masculine, which is daft really. Women tend to shave a significantly larger proportion of their bodies than men do (wild generalisation). I’m hoping this dermaplaining malarky will make it more ‘acceptable’.

wusbanker · 31/03/2021 21:00

These are brill, they don't look that good but are almost too sharp - you need to be careful! I do my whole face.

SisterMichael · 31/03/2021 21:17

What’s a springy thing?

Sorry I should have said in my OP I don’t want to wax as I get lots of ingrown hairs and spots which waxing makes worse.

OpusAnglicanum · 31/03/2021 21:17

Agree, razor.

OwlBasket · 31/03/2021 21:24

springy thing I’d just another form of plucking, same problems as waxing IME

Here: www.amazon.com/KLOUD-City-Remover-Epilator-Threading/dp/B074GSHTDY?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 better versions/deals are probably available

BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/03/2021 21:37

The springy thing is called an epistick www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Epistick-Facial-Hair-Remover-Coil-Spring-Stick-Threading-Epilator-Tool-Hairless-/272375424110
They're ok but I found it to be quite...rippy!

HelenHywater · 31/03/2021 21:38

I normally go for threading, but have had this during lockdown on the recommendation of India Knight.

Threading the best way imo.

mynameiscalypso · 31/03/2021 22:29

If your hair is dark, I've been very encouraged with the results from my Lumea. It's an investment but it definitely has had a noticeable impact after only two uses.

Sugarygoodness · 01/04/2021 08:17

I shave mine. Rub a bit of conditioner on it in the shower, and shave it off. It takes seconds.

LongIslandIcedT · 01/04/2021 08:22

Lumea hands down. I have dark hair and having a tache was really obvious, since primary school. I've had everything, creams/ bleach/ thread spring/ wax/ plucking.
The Lumea has permanently removed all dark facial hair, 100% worth the investment. I sometimes have to zap a random chin hair every year but rarely need to use it these days.

Sugarygoodness · 01/04/2021 08:42

@LongIslandIcedT have you ever just shaved it?? Even doing it daily is surely less effort than lumea?

mynameiscalypso · 01/04/2021 08:49
@LongIslandIcedT have you ever just shaved it?? Even doing it daily is surely less effort than lumea?
I've done both. They take about the same length of time (ie seconds) but obviously with the Lumea you do it once every couple of weeks rather than daily.

SisterMichael · 01/04/2021 10:54

I can’t afford the Lumea at the moment but I definitely want to try one in the future.

OP posts:
asparalite · 01/04/2021 12:10

Phillips pen works very effectively, is definitely worth getting, those springy things are very tricky to use!

LongIslandIcedT · 02/04/2021 08:06

That's the point @SugaryGoodness now I don't have to do anything thanks to the Lumea other than the odd random hair, they've all gone.

trevthecat · 02/04/2021 08:23

I've just bought the lumea. Got it on eBay, second hand and under half the price. It's never been used. Did my first treatment last night. Very excited to see results
