Have you bought anything from Ann Summers? What products would you recommend?

Hi everyone,

We're looking to gauge general interest in Ann Summers and would love to hear about the products you've tried, thoroughly tested and would recommend to others.

The brand have also expanded their collection to include a maternity and nursing range, so we'd love to hear your thoughts on this too. Are there any pieces you think would be particularly good for expectant/new mums?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I wouldn’t call their stuff ‘stylish’ Grin. Perhaps this is better on the sex board?

Brokenchair1 · 06/04/2021 13:04

I'm sure many women want to feel sexy when pregnant and BF but I think this just puts extra pressure on women to have to look good after giving birth...for who? Also why advertise cock rings on the same page as maternity bras. I don't think this is a healthy promotion for many women who already struggle post partum and don't necessarily want to go around looking sexy straight after giving birth.

Wishingwell75 · 06/04/2021 13:47

This is a joke, surely?

Hardchoices · 06/04/2021 13:57

Ann Summers is for sex toys and brightly coloured sex underwear. Putting maternity and nursing with Ann Summers is definitely icky as far as I’m concerned. There is enough pressure on mums with parenting without adding in the suggestions they should be adding a rampant sex life to the list.

firstimemamma · 06/04/2021 13:58

The last thread in which mumsnet tried to promote Ann summers stuff upset and offended so many people that I'm surprised at this re-attempt.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 06/04/2021 14:01

Jeez, just yuk.
Anne Summers really need to fire whichever fool came up with this idea.
I can't imagine any pregnant or new mums wanting to set foot in Anne summers.

Stick to sex toys and underwear that no women would choose for themselves!!

HastingsIsSuckingDiesel · 06/04/2021 14:07

You did a post a few weeks ago asking for views on Ann Summers products and getting back to having sex after childbirth.

It was not well received and I imagine this post won't be either.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/04/2021 14:32

Well, that went well... the stuff looks a bit ‘tacky’ and hen-nighty to me.

At least they don’t sell ‘sexy schoolgirl child’ outfits, or refer to women as ‘uterus havers’ etc, so that’s something.

Maybe I’m too old - but then again I have always prioritised comfort and warmth!

Hotcuppatea · 06/04/2021 14:35

Ann Summers underwear always looks like it would give you a bout of thrush.

No thanks.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/04/2021 14:39

I bought some normalish underwear from AS years ago, think normal crop top and pants set. Overpriced, cheaply made stuff that didn't last at all.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/04/2021 14:44

It looks scratchy too...

NutellaEllaElla · 06/04/2021 14:51

I bought some underwear many years ago but the quality doesn't feel good and as a PP said, it looks like it's for a hen night tbh.

I wouldn't have expected them to do nursing or maternity wear, seems a bit random! I just had a look and it still feels odd. I just wouldn't go there for that.

Mxflamingnoravera · 06/04/2021 14:53

I looked to check for "schoolgirl" stuff too and was glad to see there was none. I campaigned last year for Lovehoney to remove reference to this sexualisation of young girls and they did in fact remove it from all the product names and searches.

Anne Summers is not a shop I would use for any sex toys or clothing. Partly because it is MLM and also because other places have higher quality and more varied ranges. It all seems a bit cheap and tatty to me and many items do not look like they would last long.

PinotPony · 06/04/2021 14:59

I think Ann Summers quality has improved massively in recent years. Their lingerie used to be hideous tacky crap but they actually sell some really pretty pieces now.

I recently bought a couple of bra / knicker sets and they're comfortable enough for daily wear. (see pics)

That said, I'm not sure the move into maternity wear is a great idea. If I was expecting, I'd stick with a less "sexy" brand.

I prefer to get my sex toys from Etsy or LAM. I only use AS for lingerie.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/04/2021 15:14

I must say - I have pondered getting into the lingerie business - £XXX for 30cm of nylon lace, 10cm of ribbon and a button...

Broadbeanssleepinginheavenlype · 06/04/2021 15:35

Yik, no.

soontobeamama · 06/04/2021 16:35

I think they used to sell really nasty tacky cheap looking underwear but I think they joined forces with Knickerbox, who used to sell some pretty lingerie - not sure if that is still the case? I used to buy a few things from Knickerbox, but to be honest, I wouldn't think of looking at Ann Summers - think they still have the image of old and it wouldn't be somewhere I'd go to.

TheRealForReal · 06/04/2021 17:08

Look at these models. Do they look like they have just given birth? The last thing i would want after giving birth or during pregnancy is to purchase lingerie modeled by these women, who are clearly in very good shape and stunning. It would have made me feel like absolute shite. Because the lingerie in those photos would look nothing like that on me post birth.

TheRealForReal · 06/04/2021 17:14

And these are from the maternity/post parturm range mumsnet have linked in the OP. So unrealistic.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/04/2021 17:15

That middle one - looks bloody painful. Don’t think sitting down would be possible.
GentlemanJay · 06/04/2021 17:16

I've bought Ann Summers lingerie before as gifts. I've never had any issue re quality.

TheRealForReal · 06/04/2021 17:17

That garter belt would be lost in my stomach rolls.

SalaciousCrumble · 06/04/2021 17:20

Why is a set of 4 cock rings included in their maternity and nursing section? God there's enough pressure on women to be 'sexy' without risking thrush and mastitis from nasty synthetic underwear just before and after giving birth. April Fool's day was last week.

CirqueDeMorgue · 06/04/2021 17:25

They have some very pretty dildos.
