How to find a good botox clinic?

Jennyennidots · 20/03/2021 11:45

I have really prominent frown lines that are getting me down. I’m not chasing eternal beauty (I’ve never been exactly ‘beautiful’ anyway!) but I hate that these frown lines make me look so angry and cross all the time. So I want somewhere that will give me the minimum necessary to soften the lines and obviously I want it to be natural looking, pain free as possible and really safe.

Everything I have read says to go by personal recommendations, but I don’t know anyone who gets botox.
I’m a bit suspicious of online reviews in case they are planted. I don’t mind paying what it takes to have a good job done but can’t afford to be ripped off.

What do I need to consider when choosing somewhere? Are there certiificates or qualifications or quality marks of some kind to be looking for?

Thanks!

Ooh, watching with interest.

korawick12345 · 20/03/2021 16:36

Where in the country are you?

littleburn · 20/03/2021 16:46

I'd highly recommended seeing someone who is medically trained. A lot of GPs and dentists now offer Botox and other tweaks. I see a dentist - as part of their day job they need to know about all of the muscles and nerves of the face. My dentist is in The Tweakments guide, so worth checking there for good practitioners.

Also, be clear about what effect you're after. So light touch, 'baby Botox' for a natural effect rather than a frozen forehead!

Unreasonabubble · 20/03/2021 16:49

Botox is a prescription only medicine (POM) so in order to have it, you have to attend a face to face consultation with a prescriber. The prescriber can then give you a prescription and you can get virtually anyone to administer it if they have a certificate saying they are competent in injecting.

Herein lies the rub. You definitely do get beauticians who obtain illegal supplies of Botox from places like Korea. They will do you an online or face to face consultation and then inject you. They are dangerous. If you have someone who is NOT a prescriber administer the Botox without it being a legal prescription, if anything goes wrong, you are not covered by insurance as they are acting illegally.

If I were you, I would go onto a site like SaveFace or CQC and do a search for registered clinics near you.

One day, someone is going to be seriously injured, maimed or killed by these beauticians who obtain their goods illegally and there is no come back whatsoever.

Glad you started this. I’m also looking for the same - I want to go to a reputable place not a tanning salon with staff who’ve been on a 2 hour course. I’m not too bothered about the price.

Unreasonabubble · 20/03/2021 16:54

By the way, those qualified as prescribers are GP's, dentists, prescriber nurses and pharmacists.

I have Botox for my "11" and it is done by a prescribing nurse.

PilatesPeach · 20/03/2021 16:56

I can recommend someone in Bucks near Uxbridge/Heathrow he is fabulous. He is a cosmetic surgeon.

SailingBuddy · 20/03/2021 16:56

Where in the county are you. I can recommend somewhere in London but if that’s nowhere near you, it’s not much good!

korawick12345 · 20/03/2021 16:58

Again I can recommend somewhere in London. It isn't cheap but I think you get what you pay for.

newname2021 · 20/03/2021 17:06

I chose mine based on the fact they are a fully GMC registered doctor who used to work as a GP (but has several years of experience with Botox).

I was also reassured by the photo of her on her website which showed a very natural looking face.

She's great and does a very subtle job. Happy to recommend if you let us know which part of the country you're in.

Arrrrggghh · 20/03/2021 17:06

London recommendation would be good!

TH22 · 20/03/2021 17:10

If you don't have any personal recommendations, I would highly recommend you try your dentist to begin with. Dentists are highly trained in facial muscles (amongst the million of other things!). Point being that they are trained to know the face inside and out. Do not go to a 'someone' who has zero medical training. It baffles me beyond belief that I could go out next week and get 'trained' how to administer Botox.

korawick12345 · 20/03/2021 17:11

Dr Taylor at medicetics in Connaught St. Very light touch and absolutely no pressure to do any other treatments. Also she is absolutely lovely!

Arrrrggghh · 20/03/2021 17:50

Bookmarked - thank you!

Elsabet · 20/03/2021 17:52

My regular GP does my Botox, I go for a natural look and unless I tell people I have it no one notices. I have 3 areas for £340. He does it part time on Saturday and always offers a free 2 week checkup where he will administer extra Botox if needs be.
I would certainly go with someone medically trained, not the local beauty salon.

notturningintopowerranger · 20/03/2021 17:54

I was going to say Medicetics on Connaught st W2 too. I haven’t used them but lots of mums at school do with great results.

ApinkPeony · 20/03/2021 17:58

I'd agree with Save Face or try Alice Hart-Davis's website.

Workinghardeveryday · 20/03/2021 18:01

Go on ‘safe face’ it’s the only way to know for sure your going to someone reputable

Shieldingending · 20/03/2021 18:29

Can anyone recommend someone in the north west?

SailingBuddy · 20/03/2021 18:51

The Glasshouse Clinic in SW london is fantastic. I’d highly recommend them

Notanotherhun · 20/03/2021 19:21

Recommendations for North West?

ScarlettDarling · 20/03/2021 20:13

Has anyone got any North east recommendations? I do know someone who went to her dentist but ended up with one raised eyebrow ala Jack Nicholson for the next few months. Luckily she had a long enough fringe to cover it but I’d rather avoid that!

GoingOnce · 20/03/2021 20:13

I can recommend a place in London. Not cheap, I pay £345 for two areas.

Arrrrggghh · 20/03/2021 20:35

@GoingOnce how long do you find the treatments last before you need to re-do?

RAINSh0wers · 20/03/2021 20:42

If anyone has any Essex based recommendations I’d love to hear! I’ve read the same about going by recommendations but I don’t know anyone who has (openly!) had it done.
