VERY gentle eye make-up remover

newyorkbreakfast · 20/03/2021 07:17

I've used BodyShop Camomile for years and years but it's making my eyes sting. I need something that will get the mascara off.
GP told me to get those reusable pads and just use water but that doesn't work.
Any tips? Thanks

Garnier micellar water (pink cap) is very gentle but effective. I use it just with cotton wool pads.

Nancylovesthecock · 20/03/2021 07:21

Olive oil.

A dab on your fingertips gently massaged into your eyelashes and eyelid. Wipe off gently with soft wipes and water.

fieldofstreams · 20/03/2021 07:22

I have extremely sensitive eyes and skin. La Roche Posay micellar gel is my holy grail eye make up remover. It is expensive but lasts aaaaaages as you only need to use a tiny bit. I massage it into skin, then wipe off with a micro fibre cloth soaked in warm water.

Avene

Simple eye make up remover, used it for years and it’s very cheap, anything else makes my eyes sting.

geewaf · 20/03/2021 07:26

I can recommend tubing mascara. No eye make up remover needed, it's simply rolls off your lashes with water. I love it.

newyorkbreakfast · 20/03/2021 07:33

Ooh thanks all. Plenty to explore here. Olive oil would mean I don't even need to go shopping... Is it not difficult to get the residue off though?

No, a gentle wipe with warm water does it for me.

Just go easy on the application 😂 you can always add a tad more but too much and you may indeed have greasy eyes 😂😂

Nancylovesthecock · 20/03/2021 07:43

I have an egg cup in the bathroom with about a teaspoon in at a time, lasts me about a week

Nancylovesthecock · 20/03/2021 07:46

It's good in eyebrow pencil/gel/powder too as you can massage it right I to the skin. Very moisturising for lashes.

Any oil would do by the way so if you prefer something like almond, you can us that too.

Mrgrinch · 20/03/2021 07:47

Highly recommended the Nivea one, it's a blue liquid at the bottom and clear at the top and you shake it up before use. It's excellent.

lookdeepintotheparka · 20/03/2021 08:06

Lancome Bi-Facil is expensive but totally non sting on my eyes so I always buy this one. Removes everything easily in a couple of wipes too!

Almond oil is also very gentle - I've used this before but as you say, I find oil can leave more of a residue unless you're careful with it!

savvy7 · 20/03/2021 08:09

The Simple eye makeup remover (looks like water) is gentle. Natural alternative is coconut oil

GVmama · 20/03/2021 08:19

Don’t use the pink micellar water- it is really drying and lots of people have got eczema around their eyes after using it for some time including myself.
I found some makeup removing cloths in B&M that take all make up off just with water- they really actually work! They’re amazing, but thy don’t sell them in every store and you can’t order them online so it’s just pot luck if you can get hold of them. They sell them in white or pink and the white ones work best. They’re £1.99 for two, and they are AMAZING!

blephasol is good the lotion

NeedATan · 20/03/2021 09:29

Coconut oil. Nothing gentler or more effective.

WillyWasAWatchdog · 20/03/2021 09:41

I use saline as I have really sensitive eyes, they sell it in a bottle in the contact lens isle in boots or you can make up your own with cooled boiled water and a dash of salt

newyorkbreakfast · 20/03/2021 10:14

@gvmama I find them ok for eyeshadow but not the mascara. Don't particularly want to rub hard and I feel like it leaves bit of black around my eyes and lids.
@willy I get eczema. Interested in trying the saline
Coconut oil too! Think I've got a jar for cooking.

Another vote for tubing mascaras. I use Hourglass and it wipes off with warm water and not pressure needed. The Ordinary do a squalene cleanser for £5 which is made of olive oil and so gentle you can use it on your eyes and takes everything off with ease and leaves your face lovely and soft.

BusterGonad · 20/03/2021 10:35

Can I just give you a word of warning, coconut oil completely f**ked the skin around my eyes up, I had a terrible flare of eczema after using it.

ElderMillennial · 20/03/2021 10:46

If it's not waterproof mascara I find a make up eraser / microfibre type cloth with just water gets everything off

If waterproof, baby oil

Doyoumind · 20/03/2021 10:49

Don't use baby oil. It's horrible. As PP said, olive oil, or almond. Almond is my preference. It's very gentle for sensitive skin.

drainrat · 20/03/2021 10:49

I’m Indian. My people must be the biggest consumers of eyeliner in the world. I wear waterproof mascara too, because of contact lenses.

Johnson’s Baby Oil or Vaseline (they seem to be exactly the same stuff, just in different consistencies) when feeling cheap, or Lancome Bi-Facil when feeling fancy.

Do not use coconut oil as it has anti-microbial properties which will actually disrupt the saline flow of your tears, resulting in the eczema and irritations other people have mentioned. It also gives you huge pimples if you’re prone to acne.

drainrat · 20/03/2021 10:53

I take off with a damp flannel. Cotton wool pads don’t seem to have enough heft.

Damfino · 20/03/2021 12:06

Simple eye makeup remover is very similar to the Body Shop one (but much cheaper), as both are non-oily.

I prefer the Simple as I can use more liberally (due to cost) on a reusable bamboo pad.
