VERY gentle eye make-up remover

I've used BodyShop Camomile for years and years but it's making my eyes sting. I need something that will get the mascara off.
GP told me to get those reusable pads and just use water but that doesn't work.
Any tips? Thanks

I gave up. Even "sensitive" stuff stings. I now use tubing mascara that comes of in warm water and my usual ultra gentle cleanser to remove the eyeshadow.

This is brilliant stuff - have used it for years and used to be a fan of the Body Shop’s Camomile one. Am sure it’s also the one recommended by previous poster. Very gentle and effective.

damp flannel and moisturiser.
nivea in the blue pot is nice and gentle.
gets through waterproof mascara..

newyorkbreakfast · 20/03/2021 17:52

@mrssmiling does that Nivea one not sting as it's quite fragrant? I am super sensitive - eyelid eczema!

@drainrat interesting about the coconut oil as a few people mentioned it's an irritant. I don't like the oily texture of vaseline but might try with flannels. I don't want to rub my eyes too much as they get red. I probably sound like I shouldn't wear eye make up, don't I?! That's vanity for you.... I look so pasty without it.

@pandafluff what cleanser do you use? You mentioned an ultra-gentle one.

I just use Nivea or Astral now. Smooth over face/eyes, gentle rub, wash off with how flannel.

I just use cetaphil cleansing facewash all over.

Answering OP - no, it doesn’t sting at all. It doesn’t really smell of anything - certainly not the familiar Nivea smell if that’s what you’re thinking of. I buy when it’s on offer - usually is somewhere, so I don’t have to be stingy with it. Generous squirt on to pad, then wipe gently - the thing I like is that it works quickly, so you don’t have to rub, risking more irritation. Might be worth a try as it’s on offer at Boots - see if it suits you?

Sweet almond oil is the best affordable oil to use. Get it from the pharmacy rather than food grade stuff. Jojoba also very good but £££

I find olive oil a bit heavy for my skin.

Don't worry about getting all the residue off either- it's basically cleanser and moisturiser in one

newyorkbreakfast · 20/03/2021 21:48

@mrssmiling thank you will take a look. And I'll look into almond oil too. There's a world of oil out there!

Been very impressed with this. Gatineau eye make up remover. I bought two. Yes I know not as cheap as the average but bigger bottle (DUO).

Roselilly36 · 26/03/2021 13:51

I agree with PP the nivea one is really good very gentle.

asparalite · 26/03/2021 13:54

This one is made specifically for sensitive eyes and really does not sting or leave any residue behind at all, really good!

Nearly every eye makeup remover makes my eyes sting. I stopped using one and now instead buy mascara that is waterproof but comes off after washing with a water temperature of 37 degrees and no remover needed.

Time40 · 26/03/2021 14:18

Don't use baby oil. It's horrible

I think it's great. It's better than any eye make-up remover I've ever tried. Effective, totally non-irritating, the residue comes off with a splash of water ... and it's dirt cheap.

Darklane · 26/03/2021 14:42

Another vote for the Boots Fragrance Free one that QueenPaw recommended. Used it for years with no problems & very cheap.

thenewduchessofhastings · 26/03/2021 14:47

@newyorkbreakfast

You shouldn't need to rub any makeup remover in;pop some on a pad and holding it to soak off the makeup should suffice.

How old is your bottle as it has a shelf life of 12 months.

Have you try the camomile waterproof eye makeup remover/cleansing butter/cleansing oil in the same range?

If you've a local bodyshop consultant they might be able to offer you samples so you can try before you buy
