Help help help evening wear

I've got to go to a Bat Mitzvah next weekend in Brussels, no idea about dress code (but dressy would be good) and have nothing decent and fashionable to wear...

I'm 1.74 and an English size 8-10, very fair skin and long blondish hair. Ideas please? No black.

darling, from the discription it sounds like you could wear an old sack and look lovely, one thing though, the only time i went to brussels in winter it was the coldest place i have EVER been, so wear a warm sack!

andiemisletoe · 07/11/2007 17:21

hobbs have some luvverly evening stuff in

Anna8888 · 07/11/2007 17:22

Shape? Length? I'm feeling so clueless.

Can't do bare legs (my legs are purple at this time of year) but can do short with heels. Not much cleavage.

Anna, you have the best boutiques on your doorstep... what's the budget?

NAB3littlemonkeys · 07/11/2007 17:24

Does it have to be new? I have a dress from MOnsoon which has been worn once or twice. You could grab a bargain. It is a size 10.

MrsBadger · 07/11/2007 17:24

ceremony or just the party?
if the formjer you will need to covetr your shoulders and probaby your knees

Anna8888 · 07/11/2007 17:25

Franca - yes, I know, lots of shops but no time to go to them . I need to be very, very focused before I go shopping.

Budget? Hmm... for the whole thing (dress/shoes/underwear/some kind of coat) about 1000 euros or else I'll feel very guilty.

Mrs Badger - yes, I know I need some kind of coat thing for the synagogue.

I don't want to be overly sexy (this is the problem, I have a great Prada evening outfit but far too risqué for this) but of course I don't want be a frump either

Coast had some luscious coats
luverly neckline

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 17:33

Nice tailleurs? I love tailleurs, not that I have any, but my alter ego is carole bouquet in a nice tailleurs with posh belt. and high heels.

Anna8888 · 07/11/2007 17:33

Hmmm. Those necklines don't do anything for me - they make me look completely flat-chested .

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 17:35

I have to go, dd is calling me in tears. ghjghjkgfhkjg

Anna8888 · 07/11/2007 17:36

No, I'm nothing like Carole Bouquet .

Those tunic-things that are around this year suit me (very bust enhancing) but I wonder whether that look isn't too casual or... young? (I'm 41 and a half

anna, have a look at Net A Porter you will get lots of ideas there and then the actual shops won't be far away!

try the Style Fix tab on the home page.

MrsBadger · 07/11/2007 17:38

ah, sorry (I like them because they make my bum look smaller)
surely you have the most stylish shops in the world at your disposal?
Or at least a Zara?

bossykate · 07/11/2007 17:38

do french department stores have a personal shopper service? or are the french too effortlessly chic to need one? if so you could try and book an appointment.

Anna8888 · 07/11/2007 17:39

Yes, millions of shops but no time between now and then. I'll have to go between 10.30 am (when shops open) and 11.50 am (when I pick up my daughter from school). Including travel time.

I'll have a look at net-a-porter

OP posts:
bossykate · 07/11/2007 17:41

ok well do you have a friend who could pick your daughter up to give you a bit more time?

could you tart up anything in your wardrobe with new accessories?

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 17:44

I don't look like carole bouquet either, but would love too. Those tunic things suit me as well as I'm flat chested like you, but I thinlk too casual. I've never been to a Bat Mitzvah, would love to go (I'm deeply fascinated by Jewish culture, I love Jewish literature, sorry for the digression!)

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 17:50

budger blower and it's black

bossykate · 07/11/2007 18:02

i love this and this

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 18:04

My alter ego (a more sophisticated and richer franca) would love the first one bk!

bossykate · 07/11/2007 18:05

now with a pashmina-y type thing and heels i think anna could just about do that one within her budget...

bossykate · 07/11/2007 18:06

the issa one is half the cost of the alberta ferretti!

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 18:10

Yes, gosh these things are b* expensive . Especially in pounds.
