I've got to go to a Bat Mitzvah next weekend in Brussels, no idea about dress code (but dressy would be good) and have nothing decent and fashionable to wear...

I'm 1.74 and an English size 8-10, very fair skin and long blondish hair. Ideas please? No black.

well, depending on the designer, anna could get something within her budget from here but not too much wriggle room. if nothing else she could get ideas and look for something similar more cheaply. without being au fait with the fashion chains and department stores in france, it's hard to recommend anything cheaper.

francagoestohollywood · 07/11/2007 18:17

It might well be that the same designer's things are cheaper in Paris. I bought a dress in Milan for my bil's wedding 2 yrs ago and saw it on netaporter, it was 30% more expensive.

Anna8888 · 07/11/2007 19:57

Sorry, had to go away and make dinner and look after family .

Franca, the Alberta Ferretti coat is just beautiful but v v expensive. However, since it could be re-used (all winter) it could come out of another (hypothetical as yet) budget...

BK, the dresses are sort of tight around the lower ribcage and I have a bit of a sticking out ribcage... also a very sticky-out pelvis, so the Issa dress would sort of drape over my hipbones...

(God, I shouldn't have started this thread, I'm going to reveal all my body hang-ups one by one...)

then i think a tunic should be good for you...

Anna8888 · 08/11/2007 11:37

Yes, I'm thinking that a tunic thing is the answer. Just need to identify one I like and is sufficiently dressy.

Maybe a very short tunic dress with knee-high boots?

i think this fits the bill! would look great with knee high boots also.

My mother-out-of-law is coming round later this afternoon to take my daughter out shopping (for her b'day present) and I'm going to pop into a few shops then - have put tights and boots on in preparation for the perfect tunic dress .

what news anna?

Anna8888 · 15/11/2007 17:55

Finally solved problem today.

Bought a dress and necklace and/or bracelet in Marni. Dress is sort of white-gold cotton with long sleeves, a very soft cowl neck, a sort of knot at the back of the neck and lots of sticking out fabric, and has a low waist and comes just to below the knee. It is very flattering . Dress and necklace came in at just under 1000 euros so will have to make do with old shoes - but that's OK, I couldn't walk in the matching shoes in Marni. There was also a fantastically beautiful burnished gold bag for another 750 euros but didn't dare buy it as well... but I'm going to look up where Marni is sold in Brussels and maybe we can have a little side shopping trip on Saturday afternoon before the soirée .

I've found it on the Marni website but can't manage to link...
