Which Dress?

I want a new dress for Spring, to re-enter the world with, but am torn between these two. I'm 5'8 size 10/12. Which one to get?

Dress 1, I think I prefer this dress, but I don't know if I'll get as much wear from it. I do really like it though.

Dress 2, probably more practical, may wear it more, and do like it very much.

Or should I just go mad and get dress 3?

Happy for any other suggestions. Maybe I'll just get all three and decide then!

No3. Becauce its gorgeous, becauce its been a rubbish year and your re-entering the world. But also I think it's more flexible than others. It looks great with the jacket in the pic, great with a denim or leather jacket but also in the summer great in its own (when the others would be too warm!).

thefirstmrsrochester · 12/03/2021 18:48

Dress 3 is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful colour, very elegant and easily styled up or down depending on the occasion.

Pigtailsandall · 12/03/2021 19:34

Get either 1 or 2, AND 3. 1 and 2 are similar in style and number 3 is gorgeous.

All beautiful though Smile

IrisW · 12/03/2021 19:54

I LOVE 3

ZaraW · 13/03/2021 09:33

Number 3 is gorgeous but would you get enough wear from it, it needs warm weather which is not guaranteed. I would go for 2 not the most exciting option but looks good and more practical.

sashagabadon · 13/03/2021 09:34

3

Woodlandbelle · 13/03/2021 09:37

3 is 'wow' really would make you feel good. Go for it.

ShrikeAttack · 14/03/2021 16:34

Quick update, I got the dress yesterday, it's beautiful, gorgeous colour, fully lined and the fabric is heavy and hangs beautifully.

But I sized down, which I always do with Me + Em, and, although I don't have much in the way of boobs, I do have a very broad ribcage and it was too tight on top and squashed my breasts in a most unfortunate fashion!

I've ordered the next size up and it should be here on Tuesday, if it fits ok it's definitely a keeper, it's gorgeous and an excellent style for me.

Will supply photos then!

Oh lovely. So glad you got it and treated yourself.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 14/03/2021 17:27

I think I must be a right right arse with clothes, these dresses were awfully expensive.

I do wonder sometimes if I'm cheap.

DH and DSS but loads of branded stuff but I'm happy in whatever
I'd pay maybe £30 -£40 for a dress to go out out

ShrikeAttack · 14/03/2021 17:34

Spend what you're happy with and can afford @wishywashywoowoo70!

I know I spend more than some and less than others, I judge no-one on their clothes spend (low or high), as long as they're not having their house repossessed because they have a passion for couture, either way is fine.

I don't judge or anything I just wonder if I'm being too cheap. I only really shop in Debenhams or Outfit for normal bits.
I always think more expensive brands are a bit too grown up for me too which is ridiculous because I'm 47.
My go to outfits are jeans with converse and hoodie for day time/work and black jeans with a biker jacket for going out. Maybe it's my image that doesn't lend itself to Nice clothes
StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 14/03/2021 17:44

It's a beautiful dress @ShrikeAttack, I hope the bigger size fits and you have a fab time wearing it!

I don't judge either and I guess it's completely relative to income etc- for me my only consideration really would be worrying to death about spilling something all down it if it were expensive, it's bad enough when it's something I love that was £50!

ShrikeAttack · 14/03/2021 17:45

Do you want to spend more @wishywashywoowoo70? It's not too cheap if that's what you want, but if you're holding back on spending money on yourself when you can afford it and want to, then yes! I'd say you are not holding yourself in high enough regard.

Would usually like to spend more? It's easily done, I can give you guidance!

Would you like, not would you usually...

I've always taken the view, if I ruin it, I ruin it @StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind, absolutely no point having clothes you love and make you feel great if you're too scared to wear them.

Surely leaving them hanging in a wardrobe is more of a waste of money than if you had a ball wearing them and they met a sad demise!

Do you know what I think you might be right. I quite often think I won't buy that it's expensive even though it's probably not really. I shall stop doing that.
All I've bought in a year is leggings and sweatshirts to WFH so it's time to get something decent. Thank you Shrike 😎

I've actually only managed to completely ruin a few things over the years. You just have to give it up to the Universe when it happens!

@ShrikeAttack you're right. I bought some allsaints dresses in the sale for about £70, 70% off in the sale as wouldn't normally wear at normal price but they're just hanging in the wardrobe atm! Which is definitely a bigger waste.

TokyoSushi · 14/03/2021 17:51

Love the dress, you sound fabulous too OP!!

OtherPlans · 14/03/2021 17:52

Essentiel Antwerp had a gorgeous silk halterneck dress in a similar style in various colours. I'm short and it didn't work for my proportions. I bet you'd find it useful though OP.

MamaNell · 14/03/2021 17:52

Love number 1 for both day and evening. Number 2 is dull. Number 3 is fabulous but defo evening wear or for a wedding

ShrikeAttack · 14/03/2021 17:53

I'm very happy to hear you say that @wishywashywoowoo70. We all deserve nice things. Treat yo'self!

Toilenstripes · 14/03/2021 17:56

Number one is elegant and can be dressed up or down.

Without exception the most expensive clothes I've ever bought have turned out to be the cheapest £ per wear. There was a designer I was obsessed with in the 1990s and I bought a lot of pieces from them, wore them until they almost fgell apart but couldn't bear to chuck them so kept them. DC found them. They are now very fashionable vintage pieces and being worn again. I reckon the cost per wear is now down below 10p. Same with all my cashmere - costs £££ but worn every day in winter, never bobbles, never shrinks, never dates.
