Seasalt coat

I'm looking at seasalt winter coats because my old coat now has a big hole in it and seasalt are doing a good NHS discount.

If you have one, which style is it, would you recommend it and why?

I want a warm, long, waterproof coat.

I am size 10-12 and short if it makes a difference.

I have recently got the Plant Hunter, got it in petite as I am 5ft 1. I also got 50% off as a teacher discount. It is lovely, warm with big pockets and fur lined hood and fully waterproof, great for playground duty!

Have fun choosing!

Thanks for replying. I looked at that one and the Janelle. How does the sizing come up?

Comes up big so if you’re a 10-12 I’d get an 8
ConnieDobbs · 07/03/2021 16:05

They don't have the plant hunter in any petite sizes so I'd have to get regular length

Janelle is very long. Great for me as I am tall but I have heard some petite people say it’s too long. I would go with plant hunter.

gretagreengrapes · 07/03/2021 16:11

I have a plant hunter. I ordered my usual size and it was too big, I took it to a shop to exchange and ended up leaving with one that same size but fit better, so I dont think the sizes are consistent! That aside I love it. Its so practical and I get lots of people asking where its from. The guarantee is good too.

Scarby9 · 07/03/2021 16:12

I have the Janelle and it is long, especially at the back, but it was ideal this winter for sitting drinking coffee in the rain!

ConnieDobbs · 07/03/2021 16:58

I can get the Janelle in a petite length or the plant hunter in standard length. I really like the mustard yellow plant hunter one actually.

I got the 16 petite in the navy PH, I am usually a size 14, but hate coats that are remotely tight, also needed to be able to wear A LOT of layers underneath.

It's roomy, but I like that.

CrazyOldBagLady · 07/03/2021 17:12

I love my plant hunter. I'm fairly short and usually wear a 12. The size 10 fits me very well though.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 07/03/2021 17:36

I love my Janelle. It's roomy so go for the size down if you're in between.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 07/03/2021 17:36

Also, I'm only 5'3 and like the length on it.

TokyoSushi · 07/03/2021 17:40

I have a Janelle, I'm a decent size 14, mine is a 12 and has loads of room.

It is very long, but I like it like that, I got it for Christmas so it gets its first go on the school run tomorrow!

ConnieDobbs · 07/03/2021 17:41

Thanks all, I also like coats to be roomy so will probably go for my usual size

I got the Plant Hunter, I am normally a 12 in Seasalt and Boden at the moment, but the Seasalt fit guide advised a 14 - it's great, roomy enough for a hoody underneath but not ridiculous, so I would get your normal size.

I love mine, I got the blue leaf pattern and it's cosy and waterproof too!

clary · 07/03/2021 17:51

haha reading the thread makes me think I am fatter than I thought!! Who cares what number tho, you just want something to fit and look nice!

Strugglingtodomybest · 07/03/2021 17:53

I love my Janelle, it's so warm.

Bagelsandbrie · 07/03/2021 17:57

I’ve got a plant hunter. It’s okay. Being honest I don’t reach for it most days as I find the waterproof fabric quite sweaty and uncomfortable. It’s good for very rainy days. I actually prefer the very boring puffy black nylon jacket I got from M and S in the sale for £25 (it was £50)! That’s the one I reach for most days.

claracluck1978 · 07/03/2021 18:04

I love my Plane Hunter. I work in a cold environment most winters and bought mine in November 2019. I didn't take it off at work until lockdown came in in March. I've worn it this winter too and it still looks like new.

It will, eventually, be replaced like for like but only when absolutely needed. I cannot recommend it enough!

MoscowMuse · 07/03/2021 18:12

I have the plant hunter in navy. I'm 5'8 and it has seen me through this whole winter. I sized down from my normal size and it is still (just about) fitting, even though i'm 24 weeks pregnant. Would buy another in a heartbeat, but i don't think i would ever need to because i've worn it almost every day since Oct and it still looks great.

MoscowMuse · 07/03/2021 18:13

I should say: i'm 5'8 and bought the "tall" version and it has seen me though this whole winter.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/03/2021 18:17

I've just bought a Janelle. I wanted petite but they didn't have it, so I got regular. It's long, especially at the back, but I don't mind. I got my usual size and it's a bit big but not huge - if you're at all busty, I'd say stick with your usual size, especially if you might plan to wear big jumpers under it, or only go down one size.

It's not a stylish coat, but it's warm and waterproof and I think I'll get a lot of use out of it.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 07/03/2021 18:25

I like my Plant Hunter, bought a size smaller than usual and the petite version. I wouldn't really call it warm though, it's fine for Spring and autumn

ChessieFL · 07/03/2021 18:33

I love my Janelle. Keeps my dry down to my knees and it’s lovely and warm.

monkeycat · 07/03/2021 18:52

I have had the plant hunter in slate for 3 years now and I love it. it is warm and waterproof without being too bulky . I have it in my usual size 14 which is fine especially if you want to wear a jumper underneath. I am 5'4" and the regular is knee length. i also like the size of the pockets and that they have poppers. The hood is a good size too and stays up when needed.

I have probably worn it most days between October - March .

In fact , I have just ordered the exact same again today , using my teacher discount and my old one will become my gardening coat !
I have looked for a replacement for the last couple of winters but just can't find anything that is so versatile that I actually like , and with the discount it is a real bargain.
