I need a dressing gown substitute

Like many, I am WFH and spending hours on zoom calls. I work from a posh shed in the garden and start every day with a sea swim so I feel chilly for a large part of the day. I wear my dressing gown over my clothes, whipping it off when I'm on a video call.

Is there something that is as warm and cosy as my dressing gown but acceptable to be seen on zoom? Has anyone found this?

TIA Smile

I used to have a very warm pashmina that was a few sizes too big for me that I wore as a dressing gown.
If it's draped over your shoulder people on Zoom won't be able to tell if it's hanging down past your knees.

Cashmere poncho, chunky knit cardigan

LooksBetterWithAFaceMask · 05/03/2021 19:22

I wear a knitted hoodie zip up cardigan type thing. The one I have was from Fatface a few years ago and is pretty thick and cosy.
I wear it instead of a dressing gown because I’m not a huge fan of them but it is clothes and used to wear it out before it for relegated to indoors only and got loads of compliments on it.

Why not an oversize long cardigan? I have two that are size 18 and I'm a 14. They are cozy.

rainbowninja · 05/03/2021 19:27

Check Anthropologie, I have a really long chunky knit cardigan from them and also a jersey hooded robe which is fab. Got them both in the sale. They always have a huge sale section on their website.

Attictroll · 05/03/2021 19:47

Long cardigan here and a big blanket - I also have a hot water bottle I put on my lap to keep warm in very long meetings

CoronaCurls · 05/03/2021 19:52

I have a heated throw that I wrap myself in when I'm working.

StrawberryPi · 05/03/2021 20:02

I often wear a thick, jersey onesie by onepiece which is super cosy. I usually wear it unzipped to my ribs with a top or vest underneath (and leggings if chilly!) and on calls it just looks like a hoodie. Is that smart enough for your needs?

CaffineismyBFF · 05/03/2021 20:14

Body warmer?

CaffineismyBFF · 05/03/2021 20:14

Or buy a stand alone heater to heat up the shed.

AdaFuckingShelby · 05/03/2021 20:16

I wrap a blanket around me from the waist down. Works a treat.

Abracadabra12345 · 05/03/2021 20:16

A heavyweight kaftan. Beautiful designs, comfortable, look great

UhtredRagnarson · 05/03/2021 20:17

Blanket.

Whoateallthechocolate · 05/03/2021 20:19

I have a selection of scarves which I can drape over whatever top I'm wearing and the person I'm speaking too has no idea if I'm in a silk blouse or a chunky jumper. You do have to be a bit careful what you do with your arms as, if you lift one up so it is caught on the camera, that can give the game away.

LunaHeather · 05/03/2021 20:25

In terms of being acceptable for Zoom, might a coatigan be better?

mrssmiling · 05/03/2021 20:31

Kit and Kaboodal have lots of flowing knits - you could wear something like this, perhaps over other layers, and as PP suggested maybe wear a scarf too.

Dark, thick sweatshirt dress?

I have an oversize long length pale grey cashmere cardigan which goes with anything and is like a hug

bellagogosdead · 05/03/2021 21:23

You could go the other way and wear thermals underneath?

Unfucked · 05/03/2021 21:28

Coatigan. Mine come from J Crew and Massimo Dutti and are basically a knitted dressing gown.

Also recommend thermals for under your clothes, uggs, and a blow heater for your feet.

I’ve invested in an electric throw. It has revolutionised working from home.

DorisLessingsCat · 06/03/2021 07:39

Thanks everyone. I don't want to be too casual, so no hoodies. I think I want a long belted cardigan but a really warm one.

I do wear scarves, have blankets, hot water bottles etc. But it's the warmth and psychological cosiness of being wrapped up that I crave. And I'm fed up of whipping it off every time I get a call. @JaceLancs where did you get your cardigan?

Now drawn to coatigans. Maybe something like this but in a nicer colour? Will it be warm?

I have a thick chunky cardigan in my office, it's that or sit in my coat - it's freezing despite heating and a fan heater, never work in a medieval building!

SarahBellam · 06/03/2021 08:22

An oodie? It’s like a huge warm hoodie.
