I need a dressing gown substitute

Like many, I am WFH and spending hours on zoom calls. I work from a posh shed in the garden and start every day with a sea swim so I feel chilly for a large part of the day. I wear my dressing gown over my clothes, whipping it off when I'm on a video call.

Is there something that is as warm and cosy as my dressing gown but acceptable to be seen on zoom? Has anyone found this?

TIA Smile

I sit in a big fleeece with a blanket and hot waterbottle on my knee and try to remember to take the fleece off. Normally unsuccessfully.

Maxellious · 06/03/2021 08:28

Blanket and chunky jumper with high neck here. Have a look at wrist warmers, a bit like fingerless gloves. It's amazing how much warmer I feel for keeping my hands/wrists warm. Same goes for ankles, so I wear huge chunky socks and slippers.

Turtle Doves do nice cashmere wrist warmers

ElderMillennial · 06/03/2021 08:28

That's nice OP but looks a bit outdoorsy to me. I don't think I'd want to wear it to work at my computer.

I was going to say a long cardigan. You can also get jersey blazers that would look like a smart blazer on zoom.

Mine is from marks and Spencer
I’ve seen similar in John Lewis too

PickAChew · 06/03/2021 09:57

That's what cardies and sweatshirts are for.

pickingdaisies · 06/03/2021 10:12

Can't beat cashmere for adding warmth without too much weight or bulk, especially if you can find one long enough to cover your bum, I went up a couple of sizes on a John Lewis one. Also m&s autograph do a cami vest with a touch of cashmere which makes the world of difference, I've got 4 of them now. And those wrist warmers from turtle doves that a pp mentioned. Just had a thought, I went to an outdoor cafe last winter, and they had piles of sheepskin rugs to sit on, they were incredibly cosy.

This brand makes lovely soft fleece that feels like a dressing gown. The ponchos are particularly nice.

LunaHeather · 06/03/2021 11:28

My coatigans look less like coats but are very warm

They're from Debenhams years ago so I can't find them online but I saw this which is similar, faux fur inside so very cosy. The sleeves look a bit thin on this though

Sone brands do fleece jackets as well if you want to look more officey.

middleager · 06/03/2021 11:56

What about something like this M&s Teddy fleece cardigan (says it's out of stock, but looks cosy)

The link from @MoltonSilver looks really promising, they look long and cosy but not too casual / loungewear-like.

Sympathies @minniemoocher, I worked for 2 years in an ex Victorian school building, no central heating or insulation, tall ceilings, no double glazing. I got in at 8.30am and fired up the one giant gas heater which started to take the edge off the ice by about 11am.

That's lovely @DorisLessingsCat I'm sure it'll be warm enough. I would have gone for the green too.

Frownette · 11/03/2021 01:16

I'd second a long cardigan.

Your day sounds quite idyllic Grin

DorisLessingsCat · 15/03/2021 16:44

@Frownette Grin there are many positives - a short commute across the garden, birdwatching and the constant companionship of the dog. I will enjoy getting back to the office eventually though.

Cardigan arrived and is a success! It doesn't have the "cosy" factor that a fluffy dressing gown has but it is really warm. And it looks fine over zoom.

I was lucky enough to win one of these in a White Company competition.

That is very nice, OP. I had been going to say I have a Pure Collection long zip-up cashmere cardy which does the job of being simultaneously warm and presentable, but fingers crossed this one will work for you!

Tal45 · 15/03/2021 17:04

God I love a dressing gown, that is gorgeous though OP, merino wool is so warm. I'd get one but i'd probably shrink it in the wash :-/

pickingdaisies · 19/03/2021 11:38

That's gorgeous OP, you'll be toasty. The matching dress is a cracker too, but I'm not sophisticated enough to carry it offGrin
