So fed up of chin hairs!

Since getting pregnant in 2017, I have been sprouting thick, coarse and VERY dark hairs on my chin. I can do stretch marks, loose skin, hair falling out and associated regrowth. I can deal weight gain etc but I am really struggling with the chin hairs. They've become more plentiful with my second pregnancy. Currently, I wait for them to grow enough and pluck every few days. They are so thick that it really hurts and the roots are big. There is probably about 20 or so, all at slightly different stages of growth. The thing that has pushed me over the edge was spotting one I hadn't noticed that had grown about half an inch.

What do I need to do to get rid of these fuckers?

Oh god 20 is a lot!! The good thing is thry are dark so the Philips lumea should work. That's what I am using. But I only (only... Ughh hate them) have 2 or 3.but not for a while since using the machine

Just today I’ve bought a Phillips Lumea I cannot be doing with plucking these off chin hairs which usually become ingrown and then look like I have spots. I really hope the Lumea works

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 01/03/2021 22:48

Was going to say the same. I have a Smoothskin Gold which is similar to Lumea. I only used it 3-4 times and they are GONE and have been for many years. It cost about £200 but I’ve also done my armpits, moustache and legs with it so it’s more than earned it’s keep. No armpit shaving and not having to worry about chin hairs for the last 6 years!

Woodspritely · 01/03/2021 22:49

Rechargeable facial epilator, quick swizz every morning after a shower!

tobee · 02/03/2021 05:27

I've recently bought the finishing touch flawless from Argos for £19.99. It's basically a trimmer/shaver and I was a bit sceptical at first but it's pretty good for chin hairs. Especially the ones that are in an awkward position.

Oblomov21 · 02/03/2021 06:04

I've always had a problem with chin hairs. I've had electrolysis a lot in my 20's and still have it occasionally now.
Can't wait for covid to be over and my lady to come to my home.

MuddleMoo · 02/03/2021 07:46

Has anyone tried that tweezerman spring thing?

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 02/03/2021 07:49

I hear you! I'd be happy with 20, mine is so bad and I hate it. I thread, when salons are open and pluck most days. Seriously considering the lumea because it's so depressing I need something more permanent. I had laser and electrolysis in the past but nothing has worked.

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 02/03/2021 08:53

OP don’t tweeze!!! Tweezer (and threading) is what pushed my coarse chin hairs from averagely-bad to APPALLING. It all started in my late 20s/early 30s too.

I saved up for laser which was the best thing I ever did. I need occasional top ups and use my Lumea too. It’s not perfect but it’s 80-90% better than it was.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 02/03/2021 08:59

I’ve got more than you describe due to PCOS but the Lumea has made a huge difference. It works best on thick, dark hairs, particularly if you have paler skin. However that’s quite a lot to shell out if you only have the one area that’s bothering you. Previously after being caught out a few times missing hairs that suddenly turned out to be 2 inches long I got a cheap magnifying light up mirror so they had nowhere to hide. Still a pain in the arse to pluck out on a regular basis but at least I knew there weren’t any rogue ones I didn’t know about.

Lfinger · 02/03/2021 18:39

Thanks so much for replies. Most tempted by the Phillips lumea. Can anyone explain how to use it?

Sallycinnamum · 02/03/2021 18:47

I have had only moderate success with the Lumea despite having the right skin tone etc.

What it doesn't work on is fair facial hair which I seem to have far more of. In a fit of madness I used one of those spring things last summer and the fine hairs I pulled out are now spiky when they grow back so useless with the Lumea.

That said the Lumea has got rid of my underarm hair and rash but didnt work on my bikini line at all for some reason.

emmylousings · 02/03/2021 19:28

Sally, I'm really interested in the Lumea but get confused by such mixed reviews. Why doesn't it work on spiky chin hairs? Most of mine are spiky!

Exactly the same experience. I think tweezing/threading stimulates the follicle so they regrow thicker.

I too am torn about the mixed reviews for the Lumea, particularly for people with PCOS. Some say it doesn't work for hormone related growth, others report good results with it. And it's expensive to take a punt on.

Such a difficult issue to deal with Sad

cheezy · 02/03/2021 19:43

Mm I love plucking my chin hairs

sharalanda · 02/03/2021 19:57

I think salon laser treatment when you're allowed which should hopefully should be soon. I've been getting it done for about 12 years and it's transformed me from the hairiest human going to silky smooth and low maintenance. You can usually get a deal on a course. I get a good discount now because I've been going so long and only do every 10 weeks now for maintenance.

MuddleMoo · 02/03/2021 19:59

Do wax strips work?

Lfinger · 02/03/2021 20:55

Hmmm hear such mixed things about the lumea and its so expensive! Is hair removal cream worth a try?

Wax strips are a bit hit and miss

OP posts:
Sallycinnamum · 02/03/2021 21:01

It works on dark hairs @emmylousings but not fair hair so if you end up plucking the blonde hairs out and they grow back stubbly the Lumea won't zap them.

tobee · 02/03/2021 21:42

@cheezy

Mm I love plucking my chin hairs
Grin

Yes it can be really satisfying when you get a tricky one!

Tiggerdig · 03/03/2021 08:41

The only good thing about Covid is the mask covers my increasingly hairy chin. I seem to be continuously, shaving, plucking, tweezing and epilating.

emmylousings · 03/03/2021 11:47

I know this is all a bit grim for us and I feel for you all, but seriously, just reading these posts and knowing that other people struggle with this too actually does help. I have felt so alone with it all my life (started in puberty) I'm now mid 40's and never met another person who could relate at all.

I1give1up · 03/03/2021 15:12

I began having issues with facial hair as a teenager and invested in laser treatment in my late 20s, following years of removal creams/waxing/threading/plucking. I can’t begin to explain the difference it made to my everyday life in terms of confidence, self esteem and time saving.

It was genuinely life changing for me. Now, post pregnancy, I tweeze the occasional stubborn re-appearing chin hair, but I keep the (generally very light) regrowth in check these days with a Lumea.

Some women suffer terribly with this. I wish the NHS could fund a course of laser treatment for women who are spending significant time and money on facial hair removal.

emmylousings · 04/03/2021 21:10

I think sometimes pregnancy affects your hormones permanently and can shift things a bit , my facial hair issues were improved by my 2 pregnancies to a degree. It can be debilitating to women for sure and massively impact their lives; work = money, relationships, mental health. But it's one of those things you can imagine it not being taken seriously in health expenditure, especially knowing all the other really chronic stuff which is underfunded. It's like most things - it's (becoming more and more) down to what you as an individual can bear /afford.

Stockwell20 · 04/03/2021 21:21

Similar issues here op, I bought a Lumea and has great success on armpits and bikini line but little change to the chin which is the main reason I bought it 🙁
