Can someone please tell me what looks good on my stupid body.

I’m sick to death of ill-fitting clothes and being scared to wear anything because of my body shape.

I’ve always hated my body, but more so now since having DD.

My already wide hips are even wider after DD.
I have 34G bust.
My thighs are big
My waist is small(ish, a lot smaller than the rest of me but)
I’m short, 5ft.
I’m not very toned, so I get self conscious of my back fat!

I’m not trying to critics myself as they’re facts, but I honestly have no idea how to dress for my shape?

I love seeing people looks so trendy and stylish, I’m 24 but I’ve never been able to look like the girls who wear hot pants and crop tops. I can’t wear bralettes or tops with bustiers or boning. I love them but they just won’t fit me in one area or another.

My wide hips and thighs are like a 12-14 but my waist is a 10-12.. maybe more of a 12 now thanks to lockdown. But no matter what I buy it’s always tighter in one area than another and just always looks half-arsed.

I’m so fed up. I’m self conscious, I just want to look good.

Where do I begin with clothes for a body like mine? 😫 pictures would be much appreciated (they don’t have to be of yourselves, just inspo!)

With summer coming, and me in desperate needs of wardrobe updating, I’m looking for a few wardrobe staples that will make me look good and feel good wearing.

I may upload a picture later of my body so you can see what I’m working with!

Definitely a more fitted top than a looser one if you're comfortable with it - or at least ones that sort of draw in a bit at the seams so you get some shape and hints of your waist without 'flaunting' it.

Longer tops are good too, or high waisted trousers/skirt with bodysuit or shorter top.

Matching shoes to your bottoms will give height to your outfit, as will matching top and bottoms but different coloured shoes - perhaps with a contrasting belt.

Nude shoes are great with skirts for increasing leg length and avoid ankle straps or ankle boots (unless worn with leggings or inside trousers legs)

Etc.

No specific advice but Uniqlo have lots of vest tops with built in bra support. I’m not sure how good they are though as I have the opposite problem to you in that area. They are half the price of bravissimo though. Generally Uniqlo’s vests such as the airism range are really good for cool summer layering.

OP you need to find a seamstress in your area to do alterations. With an hourglass shape you may end up with jeans etc gaping at the waist although I think the trend for big bums means retailers are making jeans / trousers etc for curvier shapes. A seamstress can also shorten to get the right length too. Shirts / button-through dresses that gape are a bloody pain but it’s often it’s about the button placement and not about lack of fabric. A press stud can be inserted to stop that gape although some places do “no peek” tops with extra buttons to stop that. Wearing smoothing “ bodies” etc can deal with the back fat issue.

I wouldn’t really rush off to buy anything straight away if you’re not sure what style you like. I’d start collecting inspiration pictures on Pinterest and see what theme emerges. I personally think high waisted jeans and trousers and skirts might look good but really you shouldn’t be dictated to by the shape of your bloody thighs. You are not a problem that needs to be fixed. Wear what you want.

Update for anyone who cares:

I’ve order some jeans from the ‘hyper curve’ next range and they fit like a glove, I got a size 12 and they go over the thighs and bum and there is no gapping or slack around the waist. I’m impressed!

I’ll add some photos of the jeans with a top that I’d usually wear that makes me feel comfortable- but I still feel boring. Is there anything I can improve? I’ve got some more fitted tops arriving tomorrow but I like how this one hides the lumps and bumps- the only thing I think let’s it down is it hides the smallest part of my waist (I say small I mean smaller than the rest of me.. I’m no dita von teese!)

Constructive criticism is welcome; just got about how filthy my mirror is! It usually lobes on the wall and DD loves to poke and prod it when we lift her up to see herself 😁

OP you have a gorgeous figure and those jeans look great! I’m the same shape but taller and find that I like clothes with a small waist and big everywhere else, it looks pretty fresh and modern. Balloon jeans or mom jeans are good, paper bag waist jeans, trousers or skirts are nice. Anything with a higher waist can really suit an hourglass. Full skirts with high waists and pockets are lovely. And mad as it sounds you can do crop tops, long or short sleeves. Tops that end just on your waist can look great. Have a look on lucy and yak, or Monki you might not like the clothes but they style a lot of stuff with high waists to give you some ideas.

@CatSickYellowSocks thank you! I’ll check them out.

I must give the paper bag style a go, I tried once and through it made me look frumpy but I just don’t think o had the right size and top.

I’ve brought some mom jeans today too and I really like them, they’re slightly tighter than these but I am doing a soft diet to get back to pre-baby weight so they should fit nicer in the near future🤭

Firstly - I’d LOVE your measurements! I’m an apple shape but also short. If you don’t want anything too out of your comfort zone, I do think slim jeans, ankle boots and a pretty blouse or jumper is a flawless look. I tend to stick with neutral colours and quite classic things like a silk blouse with really beautiful earrings and double chain pendants with elegant flats or boots. Post a pic and we’ll be able to help more.

Missed the photo post sorry! Your jeans look great, I don’t love the top - I think like a ruffle cream or navy blouse tucked in would look lovely on you x

I'm a similar size and shape to you These are things I try to do to make the most...
Emphasize waist so shirt dress with tie belt, fitted top with wide leg trousers, tuck in or wear cropped top
Try to show some skin so wrists, ankles, a shoulder, especially if top is baggier wear vest under and wear off the shoulder jumper. I avoid baggy clothes mostly. Nothing flouncy or frilly that adds width.
Stick to same or similar colour top and bottom.
I avoid high necks
Heeled shoes and boots but I only wear platform types as I can't walk in proper heels.
I don't always do this and break my own rules if I like the clothing but I know that the above works best.
Have a look at kibbe body types as well. I'm a soft classic

Haha - you SO don’t look frumpy OP - you have a lovely petite figure and look young even though I can’t see your face. I actually think what you’re wearing in that pic is very flattering - emphasising your waist like that is absolutely the right thing to do. Tuck in your tops and don’t wear anything “flowy” as it’ll drown you.

You’ll look back on those photos when you’re my age (40) and laugh at yourself!

Look for lindybop dresses on eBay
They are generous of boob and glam as fuck.

Get yourself onto snag tights

Waistcoats are great for honing a look

Boots shout strong and powerful. Invest in for solid footwear.

Don’t call it a stupid body’s it’s keeping you alive.
Stop looking at yourself and saying bad things.
It’s toxic
Be kind!

Oh and measure yourself for bras.

Google boob or bust. Trust it!

Then go on curvy kate and bra stop and hit up their sale.

Look at the clothes on Bombshell HQ web site. The owner has a similar figure to you and models the clothes. Special occasion stuff but also plain but fabulous tops and trousers for hourglass people.

sizes.darkgreener.com/

Pick a shop that cuts for your measurements.

I wear 1950s style clothing - especially Hepburn dresses from Collectif and others... but I have been a circle skirt girl my entire life & it’s definitely because it’s my style - though I have a similar shape to you and did at 24. and (33 now.) also remember the anger as so few things emphasise the waist and thus you end up looking size 14 head to toe & 10 kg heavier. However, you can look pretty smart Hobbs is cut for hourglass as is gap.

Between teenage year and 30s the skirts have just been getting longer.

I found glorified jeggings the only jeans that work.

At those saying jeans look great - ones that fit do. I wear a size 12 skirt ( even in pencil) and have found myself sizing up in a changing room to size 16 jeans trying to get one that doesn’t stretch over the crotch/thighs in an non-professional manner and you are left with 4 inches plus of fabric to try and belt to close so you look like an old man!

The solution is jeans with quite a bit of stretch and shopping for a different cut - I find gap fine but uniqlo is a joke.

Oh my goodness I had no idea bravissimo even did dresses! Off for a good now!

I would like to start wearing more dressing in the summer. I love the look of t-shirt and button down midi dresses but naturally they don’t suit me as the buttons gape on my boobs😖

I’ve been living in jeans or leggings and baggy tops for much too long. Grin

I have the issue of gaping buttons on dresses and shirts. This is easily solved by sewing a straight stitch down the shirt placket at the front along the stitch line that is already there, so you are sewing up the gap and putting your shirt on by pulling over your head.

If you don't have a sewing machine, any tailor will do this for you. As pp said learning to do some basic sewing is a great idea when you have fitting issues, I regularly take up hems, patch jeans and take waists in on dresses.

I have exactly the same figure and height although I'm a size 10 mostly .. paper bag trousers and shorts are very flattering on me and last year everyone complimented me on just a simple vest and paper bag shorts outfit .. having a really small waist can be a pain as it makes your bum look bigger but it's the fashion to have big bums now and plus my dh loves my figure so enjoy it ! Stick to the rules of tight top loose bottom and vice Versa and you should be ok ..
I bought some loose fit wide trousers from h and m yesterday for £10 and they look great with a vest ready for the summer . Please try to enjoy your figure , it is the most envied of all shapes in my experience .

These with a black or white tight vest and a straw hat will be a go to for summer .

Hi you look lovely, I'm 35 and different body shape but I think it would suit you aswell. I wear body suits then high-waisted skinny jeans, mini skirts leather look leggings, with oversized shirt, denim jacket and vans, converse. I think its a good casual look and think the high waist suits most people x

Youre young and you’ve got a cracking figure! Wear what you like!

I’m an hourglass (although talk) and a few things I steer towards (I don’t believe in strict dressing ‘rules’, but these are things that generally suit me):

V necks or scoop necks. Nothing too high or wide that turns my breasts in to a shelf.

Fitted but not skintight tops and dresses. Anything loose looks a bit tent like on my bust and hides my waist.

Belts to accentuate my waist.

Don’t be scared of trousers that highlight your hips and bum. You’ve got a womanly shape. Nothing to hide!
