I need powder but it doesn’t suit me

I’ve found a foundation that looks ok (returning to work soon after mat leave) and I use a cream blush but I need something to set it a tiny bit/stop my nose and forehead turning to a greasy shiny mess.
But as soon as I put powder on I look blank and ill and about 10 years older (I just had a basic no7 translucent one). It doesnt suit me. Going without totally doesn’t work.

Not sure what to do could i please have some recommendations of a powder that’s not too powdery if that make sense !

Try BateMinerals Mineral Veil. It has a really lovely sheen so it doesn't look flat, but still sets like a powder.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/02/2021 15:52

Sorry, BareMinerals, obviously.

Beauty Pie One Powder Wonder. It's worth the membership on its own.

What about blotting papers instead? Powder makes me look corpse-like, but using something to pat off the oil works.

WrinklesShminkles · 27/02/2021 15:59

How are you applying it? I use a puff rather than a brush and it disappears but still stays matte.

TipseyTorvey · 27/02/2021 16:00

What colour is your skin? They like to market translucent as suitable for all skin types but if you have any colour to your skin at all it might not be. Makes me look like a sick ghost.

Houseofvelour · 27/02/2021 16:26

Nyx translucent finishing powder is my current favourite. It's not too heavy.
I am very pale though so I'm not sure what it would look like on someone with a darker skin tone. x

jackieweaverismyhero · 27/02/2021 16:28

are you using a primer?

I like the bare minerals mineral veil one too. I've seen the Laura Mercier translucent powder recommended on here too but no idea if it would address your specific issue. Different primer might help without needing powder?

lazylinguist · 27/02/2021 17:11

I have the No7 translucent one too, and it makes me look pale and dull. So I bought MaxFactor Miracle Veil and the difference is amazing. And still very inexpensive!

Notanotherfreak · 27/02/2021 17:22

Second Beauty Pie One Powder Wonder. I joined just for this alone, it’s perfection and does not give the horrible ageing look, just radiant but satiny.

Soontobeseller · 27/02/2021 17:26

What about a matte setting spray instead? Can’t recommend any though, sorry.

I’m the same, I can’t tolerate powder but I need something so I like a setting spray - I tend to go for a dewy finish one though.

CandleWick4 · 27/02/2021 17:27

They’re pricey but you could try an Hourglass ambient powder, sets yourself make up but leaves a glow rather than a matte look

MemoryIsRAM · 27/02/2021 17:30

I have a Laura Mercier pressed powder - it's candleglow which suits my complexion. Like you, translucent washes me out. So maybe try something tinted?

thefirstmrsrochester · 27/02/2021 17:31

I used to use Benefit’s Dr Feelgood. Don’t know if it’s still on the go anymore.

TinyPickle · 27/02/2021 17:32

Have you tried putting the powder on first, under your foundation?

Soontobeseller · 27/02/2021 17:46

Whaaaaat @TinyPickle? I thought powder over liquid was a huge no no? Shock

Pancakeorcrepe · 27/02/2021 18:33

Try a matte setting spray. Do you have a big Superdrug nearby? All the big brands carry them.

Hottesttrikeintown · 27/02/2021 18:52

One word - hourglass. Their powders are game changers

CD845623 · 27/02/2021 18:55

If you need a budget product I love Rimmel Insta Fix and Matte, maybe not good for darker skins but I find it perfect for taking off the shine when I have tinted moisturizer and cream blush

ElderMillennial · 27/02/2021 18:58

Try a oil controlling primer like porefessional and / or a oil controlling setting spray like skindinavia or urban decay. I agree bare mineral mineral veil powder is one of the better ones as is the laura Mercier one but only use it where you get oily and sparingly. You don't need to pack on powder all over your face.

Also consider the moisturiser and foundation you are using.

ElvisPresleysSideburns · 27/02/2021 19:06

I like Mac set powder in invisible. It just sets, without changing the colour of your foundation. The pot is HUGE and lasts me ages. They do have some other shades, but haven't tried them. www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/13849/542/products/makeup/face/powder/set-powder#/shade/Invisible

ElvisPresleysSideburns · 27/02/2021 19:08

Sorry, meant to say it's not heavy at all and doesn't feel like powder when you're wearing it.

Melange99 · 27/02/2021 19:12

I came on to say the Beauty Pie one. It's amazing.
