lilolilmanchester · 04/11/2007 21:18

No eczema anywhere else, but have dry skin and blisters round my eyes. Beauticican tells me it's eczema. Anyone experiened similar and found effective products to deal with it? Have tried Liz Earle eye products, E45 and sudocreme to no effect. Thanks.

P.S. Furball, meant to say thanks for the tip re makeup at health shops, was just thinking that although i use natural cleansers etc, my makeup is probably full of potential irritants.

Larger branches of boots do the full range or boots on line. They do a whole range of washes and potions :-) really, i tried everything going and it was the only range that didn't irritate me. Also doesn't contain any costizone so doesn't thin your skin. I still use it if my skin is really dry. But now its cleared up i can mostly manage with nivea sensitive, which is a bit cheaper.

I have dry irritating skin around the eyes. I've been using steroid cream and now my dr won't subscribe it anymore to me but she did recommend Aveeno cream or doublebase gel. I found Aveeno cream really helps with the dry skin and plus it is a natural moisturising cream, which helps. I've bought some doublebase gel and will see how that works.

Hi! I have eczema near one of my eyes. Definitely stress related! 'Simple' moisturizer has not helped. I have ordered 'Cetroben' off 'Amazon'!Hope it works. I've not got it yet. The itching has been terrible, but I don't want to go to GP, and have to use a steroid cream. It would be a last resort. I read that honey can help, so I put some on this am, as it was driving me to distraction. It immediately felt much better!
I didn't realise how awful eczema could be, and hope my info. helps others!!
Check out eczema diet advice.
AROMATHERAPY camomile oil in a simple moisturizer may help too!!

CointreauVersial · 28/11/2015 11:36

Chuck out your mascara and eyeshadow and buy new ones, and wash or replace your make-up brushes.

Pretty much every time I have had eczema around my eyes it has been cleared up once I've done this. Bacteria build up in your cosmetics and irritate the skin around the eye.

I do sometimes help matters with a couple of applications of hydrocortisone, but sparingly apply.

Sonotkylie · 28/11/2015 13:35

I recommend Aveeno cream for all eczema anywhere and on anyone, even very small babies. I have used it on my face happily though just dry skin not eczema. Its oat based and very soothing. And you can slap it on every few hours for weeks if you need to. Cutting out the itch is the critical thing.
Available, Boots, supermarkets etc and not too expensive.
They do a facial range too, but personally I find that less soothing and wouldn't try it on eczema.

Good luck. Eczema is miserable

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 28/11/2015 13:41

I have this, it started out as a reaction to a particular eye cream, then it became all eye make up, then moisturisers. I've given up on all face creams and make ups now which, given that I seem to have stumbled onto the style and beauty boards from active convos, probably not the solution you are looking for. A tiny bit of steroid cream clears it up but I try not to provoke it.

Mcnorton · 28/11/2015 13:47

I thought i had eczema round my eyes (bright red, dry, itchy eyelids) but pharmacist reckoned blepharitis when asked today so ibought blephagel which she said was the only thing for it. Fingers crossed.

Valdeeves · 28/11/2015 14:08

Graphite Cream!!!! From health shops - it cured my eczema on my face and have passed it on to others with success for them too

whataboutbob · 28/11/2015 21:59

I had eczema on my eyelids and believe it was a reaction to methylisothiazolinone in a Clarins cleanser. I now use methylisothiazolinone free products only. There's quite a lot in the press about this product and skin allergies.
I now read labels very carefully. Once the eczema is there, in my case at least, it takes weeks to go. lately it came back after I went swimming in a chloriney swimming pool. I just use gentle moisturinser on the affected eyelid. Steroid creams can reduce the inflammation, but if you use regularly they will thin the skin which in the long term is not a good look.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 29/11/2015 04:14

I get this most winters and use 0.5% hydrocortisone to clear it up. This winter I have been using eyecream day and night. First I was using a rich Clinique cream and now I am using a Protect and Perfect one. Both seem to moisturise the area and prevent eczema from developing. So far I have only had to use the hydrocortisone for one short breakout. I've used the Eucerin cream too in the past and it is great. For me, the key is to keep the area moisturised to prevent eczema from developing in the first place.

I try to buy and use eyecream rather than other creams on my eyelids. I'm not convinced that they are more moisturising, but my eyes water in cold weather and other creams were making them sting and water even more. The salty tears made the existing eczema even worse. Eyecreams are often made with products that don't irritate the eyes and so i find they are better for me.

Thank you for mentioning methylis...
Can you recommend face/ eye cosmetic brands ( make up and creams )that do not contain or use this ingredient please.

GreenPotato · 29/11/2015 13:11

I get this if I use any kind of eye cream (though I'm OK with most eyeshadows). To clear it, you may need hydrocortisone but on GP advice, as you have to be v careful with it in eyelids. I now only use a thin smear of vaseline around my eyes, it's the only thing that doesn't set my skin off. It works great though and keeps my eyes feeling comfortable.

whataboutbob · 29/11/2015 14:23

I have found methylisothiazolinone in the most innocent seeming products such as Liz Earle body scrub and shampoos. I now use La Roche Posay or Avene they're French brands but readily available in larger Boots. I check all labels anyway as use of preservatives obviously varies across products within a brand. So far it avoiding the methyl...has really helped.

BirdyArms · 29/11/2015 15:08

I have suffered from excema around my eyes on and off for 20+ years. If it gets bad 0.5% hydrocortisone is the only thing I've found that will get it under control. But normally I am able to manage it without the hydrocortisone. Rosehip oil is good for me. I use an Avene mouisturiser which is good. I also take fish oils which seems to help.

Mine is a lot better than it used to be but I have to be constantly vigilant to stop it taking hold. If it gets beyond a certain point I apply hydrocortisone and often a couple of applications is all it takes to turn it around, probably do that 2 - 3 times a year. I haven't found out exactly what triggers it off, partly stress related I think.

twobambinos · 29/11/2015 19:12

I have this at the moment. The doc prescribed me 0.1% dioderm. She said the 1% creams are too strong for the face.
Also back to basics e45 for cleansing face and throw male up away diligently esp mascara

twobambinos · 29/11/2015 19:12

Make up

hollyisalovelyname · 30/11/2015 07:31

Whataboutbob
Is there any make up brand that is methyl free ?

Higge · 30/11/2015 07:55

I get this - I wear big sunglasses to keep the wind off my eyes. I am careful with sulphates in shampoo - don't use them. I moisturise with Aveeno - not too much as this can cause puffiness - look at your skin for dryness - mine usually looks red and angry rather than dry. Hydrocortisone to get it under control. I press my eyes rather than rub, something cold like a chilled spoon helps - they itch like crazy.

Mcnorton · 30/11/2015 09:34

Just to report back on blephagel, it seems to have stopped the itching round my eyes a treat. They are still dry and flaky so I've put a tiny dab of Aveeno handcream (with colloidal oatmeal) on the flaky skin and that seems to be helping, I look slightly less like a red-eyed clown now..

Bounced · 30/11/2015 09:46

I have been using this goats milk cream for years on eczema all over, including eyelids. It's not a miracle cure but it is the most cooling, soothing, non-stingy, non-greasy cream I've found:
