What tights to go with this dress?

I bought this today. I am going to a very, very swish do in a very, very swish place in upstate NY on Wednesday and my 'experience manager' rang to tell me that there would be a black tie event so I should bring a cocktail dress. I am more than a little concerned about appearing like a poor relation as I am not used to mixing in such places/circles
The dress is v nice on but I need to know what tights to wear. I will be wearing a pair of chunky black suede sandals so I think that black opaques are the way to go.
I also have a pair of very high court shoes that I could wear but they are really not comfortable.
I have no time for shopping as I am travelling on Tuesday morning. So what tights should I wear?

Not opaque. Are the shoes open toe? Not a good look with tights.

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 20:51

It is a work do. So how about opaques with the courts and a pair of ballet shoe things in my hand bag for when the shoes get too much?

Or how about bare fake tanned legs with the sandals? but I think it may be snowing there.........

I would go for the court shoes and sheer tights with this. Lovely dress btw.

Good idea with the ballet shoes if you really cannot stand the court shoes

kindersurprise · 04/11/2007 20:54

stand in the court shoes, I assume you do like them

Mercy · 04/11/2007 20:56

Courts a better option I think (your poor feet though)

But what sort of work do?? Meeting or recruiting clients? Meeting your USA colleagues?

dividedself · 04/11/2007 20:56

nude/tan tights - pref without toe.

Chipstick · 04/11/2007 20:57

Fishnets or a similar pattern...the 'do' sounds fab by the way xx

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 20:57

Ok so sheer tights and court shoes and back up ballet shoes in handbag?
the thing is I don't really like sheer tights but I suppose they may be a little more sphisticated.......

iS THE dress knee lengtgh or below? if so these would look stunning but you would need high high shoes.

Gorgeous dress btw.

DrNortherner · 04/11/2007 20:58

No NO NO to ballet shoes with that frock.

Comfort will ahve to wait.

Mercy · 04/11/2007 20:59

You could always for American Tan

Yes, where are those international style bods?

DrNortherner · 04/11/2007 20:59

you could perhaps wear flats if you are 6 foot tall and size 8. Otherwise we all need a heel.

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 21:00

No it is a press trip to view property for a newspaper. Business class flights and a private jet up to the Adirondacks to an estate that used to belong to the Rockerfellas. Dinner will be with the developers.

Sheer tights and heels

llareggub · 04/11/2007 21:00

I think you'd need good legs for those tights.

Sheer tights, definitely. And don't forget a spare pair just in case.
