Upper arms, rough skin

FredAstairesChair · 25/02/2021 09:23

Noticed myself developing this recently. I have soft skin everywhere else (late 30s) but on my outer upper arms it feels slightly rough and bumpy
I've been taking care to use an exfoliating sponge and I always use body lotion.
Does anyone else suffer the same? What helps?

Keratosis Pilaris? You need cream with urea, like Avene Akerat or CeRaVe smoothing cream

Branleuse · 25/02/2021 09:56

Sounds like kerastosis pilaris. I get it on my thighs. It definitely improves a lot in the summer, so i think air and sunlight help. Its really very common

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/02/2021 09:58

Try the korean wash cloths for exfoliation, they are amazing. Do a search for the numerous threads in style and beauty about them.

Teaplease29 · 25/02/2021 10:00

I have this and found the creams sticky and irritating. I use a generous amount of westland Dead Sea salt in every bath I have (at least every other day) and it really helps in the winter. Sunlight helps in the summer.
I also find it is better when I am eating healthily and am not overweight. X

Eucerin is another cream with 10% Urea like the two mentioned above or Flexitol heel balm is stronger at 25%

The creams already mentioned above are excellent. I also, however, find that switching to bar soap rather than shower gel really helps (and is much cheaper than some of those creams!) Body brushing before you shower is great too but takes up valuable morning time!

slooowdaysinlockdown · 25/02/2021 10:11

Agree with everything ddij said Esp ameliorate

slooowdaysinlockdown · 25/02/2021 10:12

I find physical exfoliation makes mine worse though. Creams much better

FreshFaceTime · 25/02/2021 10:29

Not sure if this is applicable to rough/bumpy as opposed to flaky/dry, but I've said this on another thread recently... I used a cream called udderly smooth (Amazon). It was originally made for cows udders(!) but is now used by humans for dry skin. Not fragranced. Sinks in SUPER quickly. Definitely not glamorous! I used it on my manky shins and the difference was insane! I'd tried loads of lotions and potions until then. I do use lovely things too now the dry patches are under control, but am so glad I gave this a try because it felt like nothing else had tackled the problem if that makes sense? It's also the only thing that healed my cracked, dry, bleeding over-washed hands when nappy changes and too much hand washing made them start falling apart. I bought it after reading the Amazon reviews. Probably full of all kinds of stuff that's frowned upon here Grin

MrDarcysMa · 25/02/2021 15:36

a Korea Italy wash cloth after soaking in the bath. Then ameliorate cream.

saltandsugar · 25/02/2021 15:40

I exfoliate like mad then use coconut oil to keep the skin moisturised - twice or ideally thrice a day.
I've tried the creams, they didn't work for me.

XiCi · 25/02/2021 18:19

Korean cloth, the green one. You'll never look back.

FredAstairesChair · 25/02/2021 18:27

Thank you so much all! I know it isnt a major problem but its really irritating me! I'm looking up the udder cream now! Never heard of the cloths either. You're all very helpful :)

I would second cerave smoothing cream the only thing that worked for me

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 25/02/2021 19:17

Ameliorate cream helped but I've noticed a big difference since losing weight and cutting down on sugar.

FreshFaceTime · 25/02/2021 19:43

Can't get links to work off my phone but hopefully the pic works...

I have had terrible keratosis pilaris all my life - cheeks, arms, bum and thighs. It's got better as I have got older, and I've tried all sorts to get rid. I havent had much joy with ameliorate, eucerin or other urea creams - but that could be because I'm not always rigidly consistent and you need to do twice a day really. Korean italy towels after a long soak, 1 x per week, and moisturising every day as soon as I get out of the shower. That's helped enormously. Also sunlight. And reducing the amount of dairy i eat.

Melange99 · 25/02/2021 21:06

It goes as you get older, a rare benefit of the ageing process.

Starflower supplements help. Sunlight definitely helps.

BabyBee93 · 25/02/2021 21:48

Oooh CeraVe smoothing cream (with salicylic acid) cured my arms of this!

OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 21:51

I used to have this, it was cured by a bar of Dove soap slathered on liberally when showering/bathing.

Ruthietuthie · 26/02/2021 02:54

I tried the Eucerin cream and the Korean wash clothes, but cutting out diary was the only thing that eliminated this completely for me. It also got rid of the rosacea and peri-oral dermatitis on my face. Shame I really love a latte so haven't kept it up.
